| Posted: 13 Apr 2020 08:48 PM PDT So in response to a simple question from Sunlight Blade about how many Pinwheels can you see at a time, I was surprised to make a few observations that don't seem to be known by the community. I suppose Pinwheel being so easy to beat obviated the need for a deeper exploration of its mechanics. The Total Number of Pinwheels There can be 8 copies present at a time, for a total of 9 at once if you count the actual Pinwheel boss. Spawning Mechanics They always (exception mentioned in the next section) spawn in groups of 2. After some brief testing I believe this means that if you have 7 clones present because you killed one, the 8th won't spawn unless you kill another one, because you need that 7th and 8th spot open at the same time. There is a pool of 14 unique enemy IDs for all of the clones that can potentially spawn. Pinwheel is c3320_0000, and the clones are c3320_0001 to c3320_0014. The clones all have 1 HP, but don't actually die or have their HP drained when you hit them. They just... go away. More from the list of 14 will get pulled in and/or ones you already defeated can respawn. There doesn't seem to be any order to the IDs pulled from, I think it may be based on proximity to the player in the room. So the first two clones you see could be like #7 and #8... Why are there 14 enemy slots when only 8 can spawn at a time and any of them can respawn? I have no idea. Seems like it'd work just the same if there were only 8 slots. There seems to be no limit to how many times each one can respawn, so I believe it's infinite. I'm not totally sure, but it's not using the generator system used to respawn mosquitoes in Blighttown or the 4 Kings, so at the least there's no limit that I can see using debug. That is, until you reach the final phase. Pinwheel's Final Phase So, uh... this is a thing. When Pinwheel drops below 30% HP any remaining copies in the room will suddenly die off. Then Pinwheel will re-summon all 8 together at once! But this is their last time being summoned, and copies killed from here on out won't respawn and Pinwheel will be left on their own if you kill them all off. I tested the 30% figure in regular NG, in regular NG with one phantom summoned, and NG+6. The 30% figure stayed consistent, adjusting to Pinwheel's changing max HP. [link] [comments] |

A new undead will Kindle the flame , the kingdoms of men will flourish once more and the chosen undead will probably live out his life as a normal human. I've probably started it about 40 times and just never finished it. And I always said it was over rated and hard just for the sake of being hard. Now that I have played all the way I have no other option then to admit I was extremely wrong. This game is a master class in background world building it has one of the best combat engines to date. I have never been so excited to finish a game but also so lost at the end. To anyone who says games can't be an art form. Win this game. Win this 40-100 hour expression of hardship that makes you want to come back for more. Christ this is a good game Edit: I forgot it put this in the og post Also I had always heard about how toxic the dark souls community was. This was absolutely not my experience. | As a person who normally plays games on easy... I fucking love this! Posted: 13 Apr 2020 11:35 AM PDT I'm gonna gush - so please excuse this fucking essay. OK so I'm the kind of person who plays casual games, games on easy mode or stuff like The Sims. I always loved the look of Dark Souls, but stayed faaaaar far away from it because its got such an intimidating reputation. The internet is full of people telling you its the hardest shit they've ever taken, and I couldn't understand why people enjoyed a game that was reputed to be so massively frustrating. I felt like this game had 'not for you' written all over it. Now we're on lock down I thought now was the time to invest some serious hours into figuring this game out. I got remastered on PS4 and am only in early game (just rung the first bell). I honestly expected it to be a miserable slog until I got good... Man was I wrong. This game is fucking genius; it makes the process of failure an absolute pleasure. Yes it's hard, yes I'm dying over and over and over, but this game appeals so much to my careful, cautious, patient and meticulous nature. I love the process of fine tuning my progress, of getting that little bit further and a little bit better each time I fail, of going back to the drawing board, and the sense of accomplishment when I finally puzzle out an area, or get past a boss. When I beat the Taurus Demon after 2 days of fucking it up like a newby, I was elated and had so much adrenaline going on my hands were shaking. I hadn't felt that kind of hard-earned elation since I was a kid playing punishing '1 shot and your dead and back to the start' games on the ZXSpectrum. I love it! For me this is an inch by inch game, a slow game. I'll never be a pro player, I'll never brag that I find it easy - but damn do I find it FUN. I'm sad that I was put off playing it for so many years, but I'm thrilled I still have the majority of this game ahead of me. I've also put a bit into vitality. Just beat Capra demon after hitting the first bell. Looking for guidance and building tips. My gift was master key and I'm running the thief set, drake sword and grass crest until I can one hand the gravelord sword. Worth noting maybe that I started Pyro.
