/r/DarkSouls2 - Modding Monday. Posted: 12 Apr 2020 11:14 PM PDT Welcome to the weekly Dark Souls mod announcement and discussion thread! Beware! Use of mods whilst connected to the internet can cause you to get banned from online play! For more information, or to continue the discussion visit /r/ModSouls Using mods (PC only!) to enhance or add new content to the Souls games is great fun! It is important, however, to understand that mods are against From's EULA/ToS, so there is a great risk of being banned when using them due to From's anti-cheat--which is deployed in most versions of the Souls games. Versions of the games where modding is safe due to no anti-cheat: Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition Versions of the games where modding carries a very high risk of being banned: Dark Souls: Remastered Dark Souls II Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin Dark Souls III Our recommendations for safe modding *This advice is intended for first-time or relatively inexperienced modders who want to get into modding without risking a ban on their main Steam account. Basic Steps: Make a separate Steam account Use Steam's Family Sharing feature to provide your new account with access to your main Steam account's game library. Install games to be used with the new account in a separate directory. Once you've found your mods be sure to read (and follow) the mod author's instructions carefully prior to installation. Set Steam to "off line" mode. Install the mods and perform any necessary setup. Enjoy the fun and interesting experiences offered by mods! Posted: 13 Apr 2020 06:01 AM PDT I finally beat DS2 SOTFS today and felt a huge rush. It seems as if the areas themselves are harder than the bosses (excluding smelty of course) and I went with a str/dex build using the red iron twinblade. I heard this game was easier as a mage or a hexer so I may respec for NG+! [link] [comments] |
My silly Chariot adventure [spoiler] Posted: 13 Apr 2020 08:04 AM PDT I seem to vaguely recall this fight from promos but I never made it past Bastille before so I was quite excited to reach the Executioner's Chariot today. I'm not great under pressure so this guy really spooked me; first couple attempts I got gang stomped and run over. After figuring there was a necro doing re-summons, on my third attempt I ran in, dropped an Alluring Skull, found the necro and managed to clear the skellies... but was now kind of shit scared of going further. So I hid in the alcove for a bit and managed not to get chariotised. Then I thought... why not see if I can hit him with my bow, and spent a few minutes figuring how to get shots off after he passed. Once that was working, I added poison arrows, and on about the 5th/6th shot, it worked. Poison wore off after taking a good chunk of his HP; had just enough arrows left to re-poison him, then that wore off too. Then the bad news... he stopped doing laps. Hrm. Eventually I got the courage to follow him, but all I can see is this weird shadow on the wall, out of line of sight, and a pit in my way. Well this sucks. I go the other way, sure I'm going to choke, and then I get attacked by more skellies, and there's another necro. And in the distance, a bigger necro doing some kind of dance. I have a few pings at the distant one, who promptly falls into the pit, boss HP drops to zero... I win. Still wasn't sure what actually happened, until I looked it up online and realised I was meant to duke it out with a demonic horse. Unfortunately demonic horses have mediocre balancing skills, so I effectively cheesed the entire fight. Not sure whether to feel bad or laugh, really. Is the regular fight good value if you actually do it the way it's "meant"? I'm not opposed to cheesing but I sometimes wonder if it takes away the sense of accomplishment. [link] [comments] |
Bonfire locations saying "???" Posted: 13 Apr 2020 09:35 AM PDT I just got to Drangleic's Castle, and some bonfires that don't work appeared on my fast travel screen? are they locations i didn't found yet? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 13 Apr 2020 08:32 AM PDT Did a sketch of my favourite boss in Dark souls 2 https://imgur.com/gallery/oNf5B5B If it seems low quality that's because I'm not highly skilled in art yet but if you could give advice, that would be helpful and could help me get better at drawing. All phantoms/player ghosts hunched over? Posted: 13 Apr 2020 10:01 AM PDT This only happens to me on one character (also my only character on ng+++ and high soul memory). Here's a few examples: https://i.imgur.com/pJoGJF0.jpg https://i.imgur.com/uLwPliH.jpg https://i.imgur.com/jpAVsyQ.jpg https://i.imgur.com/43fH5GN.jpg Here's a few examples. Every single phantom I see - fully formed, coloured in ones in specific gear at bonfires, or those stock ones you get round levels (why did they choose powerstanced zweihanders and old pyro gear for one of them anyway) is hunched over like they're low on stamina/hp. It's definitely not just people who actually are low on health, because I'm talking every single ghost I ever see on this character. Doesn't happen with summons or hosts when I'm a summon, though. Has anyone else had this issue? I have no idea what might have caused it. [link] [comments] |
One Weird Trick To Get a +5 Weapon Before Leaving Things Betwixt - Blacksmiths Hate Him! Posted: 12 Apr 2020 06:51 PM PDT Following this patented 5 step process, you too can stroll up to The Last Giant swinging your very own +5 weapon
Useful? Absolutely. Convenient? Highly debatable. Still very interesting that a halfway upgraded weapon is available without even leaving the starting area. For fun I actually did this and it made the start of the game pretty easy, though it took about 10 attempts to get it. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 13 Apr 2020 09:46 AM PDT Is one of the most frustrating places I have ever played. Between the Knight/Samurai/Archers that run from half way from the Smelting Demon room to me, to the constant tiny ledges, to the fire traps that hold important items, the entire place is designed to test my will. That is not even counting the constant invasions. But worse of all is the true enemy of all Dark Souls, the ultimate adversity of the Series, Gravity. I have probably lost around 100,000 souls cumulatively to this place. I just needs to vent thank you all for reading. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 13 Apr 2020 12:44 PM PDT before i decided to try dark souls 3 near the end of 2017, i was a rather simple man. i liked my single player action platforming story mechanical goodness(original god of war trilogy, prince of persia, assassin creed, and castlevania lords of shadow esque games) but i loved my multiplayer games, mainy the competitive feel and beating people in a fight, altough at the time i mainly played cod, battlefield, titanfall, and dragonballl fighterZ for that fix. Then lo and behold, i decided to try ds3 as it was the most hyped one and i was high and bored, mere 16 yr old lad. And boom when i tried pvp, i loved it. i got wreckt, but i loved it. i felt home at last in this series pvp, a place where both mechanical skill, as well as game knowledge and things related to more brain then skill(builds and the like mattered) a pvp land where u can have a skillful sword duel, use the enviroment, or come up with your own stat that cant be beaten by simply rolling out of it or convential means, something that has 75 percent chance to land unless ur opponent knows the one obscure way to avoid it. after i beat 3 and pvped everyday for a good while or some months, i tried 2. and boy did i love it. i died to things like the last giant and hollow solider ganks, i got clapped by pursuer for 2 or 3 hrs in a row before i got somewhat gud enough to learn and dodge all his stuff. then i quit in iron keep. yes, gank keep itself and smelter pissed me off so much afte what felt like a full day or 2 in there, and i hated the way online was handled. no unlimited eye orb, soul memory, among other things felt so blatantly bad compared to the other series. in my head itwas "why just why". after remastered came out i took my oppurtunity to the play the first souls i missed on my ps4, and beating it prompted me to have another go at 2 looking towards now, i go to hiede tower first and parry the knights to death with the rusted coin incase i get something good/souls. i run past every enemy, claiming the estus shards and upgrade mats i need. i run past all the mobs and destroy the bosses with a rapier, for ive already beat the story enough times that its a simple chore hindering my character for pvp, something to be jumped over rarely dying. on the chars i did do everything in, i died over and over in the arena, to things like havel jesters spammers, people who only do kitana running attacks, the smelter hammer instant stun(also accompanied by jesters incase u roll it of course) or just being outskilled. now whenever i feel like invading im "gud" enough to farm the arena at nice rate with no frustration or time lost, as i win most of the time [link] [comments] |
Posted: 13 Apr 2020 08:02 AM PDT TLDR: Years ago I wanted to make a 10 minute short movie using only DSII in game footage. The story was appropriately sad and dark, with references that fans of the series would have gotten but unspecific enough that even someone that never played Dark Souls could have enjoyed it. I recorded almost all the footage, but never completed the cut, having done only a short teaser trailer:https://youtu.be/PlvuskzH7-s Read on if you want to know the story! Feel free to provide suggestions to improve consistency with canon lore, although as I said I would like it to be enjoyable by folks unfamiliar with DS as well. Edera was the captain of the Elii army. Her father and her brother where part of the Ivory King's council, she had a wife and a child. She achieved great victories in defense of her homeland and dedicated her life to serving her city: Eleum Loyce. One day, before battle, after addressing her troops and praising the sun, she loses consciousness. She awakes in a dark forest, her resplendent armour and trusty zweihander nowhere to be found. But she pushes on, gathering her wits, driven by the steel will that so guided her in Eleum Loyce. After a long, harrowing journey she finally reaches the frozen outskirts, and the gates to the city. But the great doors are torn asunder, and a seemingly implacable snowstorm ravaging the deserted streets. panicked, she runs through the ruined city, towards her home. She finds nothing but ruined, crumbling walls, her loved ones long turned to dust. Her king is gone, and a woman she has never seen before resides in the Grand Cathedral, mute. Overcome by shock and despair, she throws herself from the steps of the cathedral... only to find she cannot die. Again and again she plunges her body into darkness, slowly realising that this nightmare will never end for her... Eventually she gives up, her will broken, her purpose lost. She wanders the empty streets, then out into the mountains, until she finds a cave and crawls inside. How long does she wonder the bowl of the earth for, she does not know. A week? A Year? A millennium? It does not matter. There are others like her here: empty husks of humanity that giggle in eternal denial, or desperately claw at walls, hoping to find a glimmer of purpose. Her legs carry her ever onwards, driven by nothing but inertia, while her body rots. Until one day, a flash of sunlight stings her eyes. Under her feet, the path of beaten dirt turns to tiled stones. Slowly, she emerges into a clearing, surrounded by ruins. And for the first time since she picked her broken body up and started walking, she stops. Someone is talking to her: "Are you the next monarch? Or just a pawn of fate?". The Emerald Herald shows Edera a human effigy: when she touches it, it triggers a flashback, and she suddenly remembers the last few moments before she lost consciousness on that fateful day. A knife in the back, and as her limp body fell, the flash of her brother's face as he turned away. Her brother, who had always been jealous of her hard won success. The memory shakes her and reminds her of who she is: But so much time has passed, revenge is impossible, and therefore she still can't find purpose in her existence. But the Emerald Herald continues: "Bearer of the curse, seek the king..." Her words offer hope, purpose... and Edera grabs it. From here, I had in mind to have the character go through the normal storyline to eventually choosing dark after killing Aldia, with Edera regaining her humanity and strength by discovering a new purpose that she accepts out of desperation. What do you folks think? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 13 Apr 2020 12:35 PM PDT Oh GOD After playing for a shit load of hours the original DS2 and SOTFS, I finally decided to tackle the DLCs FUCK this guy oh my god. I can deal with the AoE, I can deal with the shitty passage to get to him, I can deal with the delays BUT HE CAN ALSO SPEED UP ATTACKS? God jesus dammit [link] [comments] |
Posted: 13 Apr 2020 12:30 PM PDT Anybody got tips for fighting Aava? All of Aava's attacks seem to ignore invincibility frames for me. Edit: hey everyone I beat Aava in the hour after I asked for tips. Just raw heavy crossbow for 10 minutes and I won. [link] [comments] |
Question about Benhart’s Quest Posted: 13 Apr 2020 01:57 PM PDT Trying to finish his questline. I missed summoning for Benhart in the Prowling Magus and Congregation, but I did summon him for Looking Glass Knight. I can summon him for Nashandra, but not Giant Lord because I need to do Captain Drummond's quest. That leaves me with the final option for a third summon: Elana in Shulva. My problem is, I've heard that DLC bosses don't count towards NPC quests. Is this true in SotFS edition? [link] [comments] |
Why is Man so prominent in the time period that dark souls 2 takes place in Posted: 13 Apr 2020 01:50 PM PDT It appears that in Dark Souls 2, the gods have faded from prominence, and mankind has taken over. There is scarce mention of gods, and linking the flame technically isn't your objective like the other two games. Rather, it feels as your quest is to find your own humanity. I've always loved this contrast between the games. Dark Souls 2 feels more intimate and about the player, than how in Dark Souls 1/3 its about fulfilling a prophecy and rekindling the flame. Dark Souls 2 gives you the most backstory out of all the souls games. [link] [comments] |
need a new fun/strong build for pvp Posted: 13 Apr 2020 11:52 AM PDT so far since hopping back on ds2 ive used : mircale build, claymore, drakewing, ikugs, cryptsword, daul daggers, and rapiers and have found sucess with all (after a 30 min learning phase to not be a backstab stick on the ultras) now i want that new fun build to destroys peoples cheeks with, maybe something with good backstab/riposte dmg [link] [comments] |

Trading stacks of Human Effigies Posted: 13 Apr 2020 11:00 AM PDT I was wondering if I could have some Human Effigies stacks, but the to be frank I don't have anything of value tbh, [link] [comments] |
Posted: 13 Apr 2020 09:58 AM PDT Which weapon type do you guys prefer? My personal favorite is halberd, but I want to know what you guys think! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 13 Apr 2020 09:19 AM PDT Now this was one challenging boss. It was pretty smooth sailing for me until this boss whom i died to like 10-15 times. I've killed almost all of the bosses within 2-3 tries. The annoying part is using up human effigy every single time you die. The first phase is pretty easy but once the second phase kicks in, it's very hard to simultaneously dodge and hit the both of em. Finally bested these two with homing crystal soul mass and soulsword. So how tough was this boss to you people? I personally found it to be the toughest yet. I'm heading into the first dlc, so are there any other harder bosses than this one? [link] [comments] |

So how does bonfire ascetic work? Posted: 13 Apr 2020 01:38 AM PDT I'm first time in DS2. I could say that I'm kinda far currently in brightstone cove tseldora because I'm saving iron keep for last. And I was wondering what does bonfire ascetic do? I didn't try it because I was afraid of more suffering but do I benefit from using the ascetic? If I do benefit what do I get? [link] [comments] |
