    My DS2 experience so far

    Posted: 25 Apr 2020 07:24 AM PDT

Hi, I want to share you my thougth and experience with you guys.

I began playing DS2: SOTFS a few days ago, I come from finishing DS3 (the first Souls game I played) and I must say that the difficult based in multiple enemies is truth, but the game is pretty much interesting and fun.

I began as a Knight, now I have a Bandit Axe+4 and the Flower Shield, and I'm still using the Knight initial armor

With some bosses I summoned phantoms, because I think that if the game can have 2 characters against me, I'll have backup with me

I have defeated: - The Last Giant (my favourite boss so far) - The Dragon Rider - The sentinel in the ship (sorry i don't remember all the names) - Old Dragonslayer - The three tall guys in the fortress - The Lost Sinner - Royal Rat Vanguard

Do you have any tip or advice for me or just something to tell me?

    pls no spoilers

Edit: I have also defeated "The Pursurer" or "The Pursuing"... the black armor guy with the anti-curse shield and the big sword that flies. I beat him in the castle (appears from the sky with the crow or eagle) and in the fortress

Just played through most of Shulva without touching any of the totem contraptions.

    Posted: 25 Apr 2020 07:50 AM PDT

It's my first time playing the DLC and I have been struggling for the past 3 hours through this wretched area. The enemies can make you go through your estus quickly, and I was left wondering where the hell the next bonfire was. Well, I managed to go through both the dragon sanctum and grave of the dead without activating any of the totem contraptions. Well after the Lair of the Imperfect bonfire I traveled past the small shrine where you are supposed to place a dragon stone, and there's a room with an elevator that is only accessible once you hit a totem. That's where I finally realized what I had been doing wrong. Cue facepalm. Well now I get to go back through and play this area correctly.

Want to replay Dark Souls 2 again but..

    Posted: 25 Apr 2020 09:01 AM PDT

Hey, me and my friend want to replay Dark Souls 2 SOTFS again, but we want to play a good, fun weapon after just finishing our Sorcery only Dark Souls 3 (that was cancer...) anyone got any ideas for an early game weapon that's fun to play and can later maybe upgraded to something better? We are not really experts in Dark Souls 2 only in 1 and 3, so i'm out of ideas, googling builds hasn't helped me, because all that it shows me are endgame builds

    Advice for Fume Knight....

    Posted: 25 Apr 2020 03:54 AM PDT

So I have A Uchigatana +10 with 45 DEX, should I double hand it or go single hand because the shield seems useless anyway. I know he has no weaknesses but I heard the level of resistances vary and are the summons useful because they don't last long in the second phase and then I have to deal with increased heath.

EDIT: Thank you, everyone, finally got him.

Playing with lag can sometimes be hilarious.

    Posted: 25 Apr 2020 08:21 AM PDT

Due to the pandemic, my friends and I currently don't have the best of all connections, some days we can't even connect together (disconnected from multiplayer session/unable to connect to world). And when we are able to connect, we have more or less lag.

However fighting a boss on lag can sometimes lead to funny results, like the boss suddenly dying or in case of the Chariot, not even appearing in the battle on the summon side.

I know I am not the best of describers, but that stuff was hilarious.

Did you have similar experiences with lag? Please share!

I love this game, or I did, but I literally can’t do anything to progress anymore.

    Posted: 25 Apr 2020 03:51 AM PDT

I am at a measly half health and there are no human effigies left to be found. I bought them all. Every area of the game have enemies which are impossible to handle at that health. I can't tell you how many attempts went into fighting that rat army. I can't even farm souls to level up my vitality, because the enemies stop respawning after awhile. I feel so defeated and like I broke the game with a shitty build or something. I leveled up adaptability a lot like I was recommended, but I guess I still caused some sort of imbalance.

I know that dogs are supposed to be able to drop effigies, but I can't survive in that swamp for more than a few minutes and out of all the dogs I killed, only ONE of them dropped an effigy.

Guys, I've stayed up all night attempting to make some sort of satisfying progress. I'm at my wits end, and it makes me sad because Dark Souls has helped me through so much in my life and I don't want to give it up

DARK SOULS 2 IS MUCH BETTER THAN DARK SOULS 3 (WARNING: VERY LONG)

    Posted: 25 Apr 2020 12:18 PM PDT

This is something i wanted to say a long time ago. I always prefered ds2 over ds3 and after seeing some youtube "critics" (Mattewmathosis, Joseph Anderson, Hbomberguy, Mauler) i conclude that all of them are shit and i will show why. But first the evidence:

    .

    .

The magic system is a complete downgrade of ds2. They made pyromancy useless and deleted the hexes. The thing about pyromancy is that it was a free magic with little investiment but many enemies resistant to it. While hexes required heavy investiment but were the strongest and most versatile school of magic. Ds3 basicaly ruined pyromancy and hexes by nerfing piromancy damage and making it rely on int/faith and removing hexes. Miracles are even more useless than ever on ds3. The casting animation of the staves is stupid and cluncky with the spell coming out of your hand in the middle of the staff. Even the sound of the soceries being cast is better in ds2.

Level design is no better than ds2. You can say ds3 have some good levels (high wall, undead setlement, lothric castle, boreal valley, grand archives) but the majority are bad: - the farron swamp is just you fat-rolling for half an hour in a ugly swamp with enemies that don't suffer the speed penalty - catacombs of chartus is linear and full of skeleton ganks from the beggining to end (for those people that say ds3 don't have ganks) - the majority of cathedral of deep is just a big empty space with 2 giants inside & some useless bridges and a giant gank corridor on the perimeter outside - profaned capital is so incredibly short and have absolutely nothing to explore. in contrast to black gulch that is annoying but have content to explore - cursed king's garden is just an recyclage of various other things from the game compressed in a small space - road of sacrifices is boring and linear and cruxificion woods is a swamp next to another swamp (and too small) - smoudering lake is just you running from a stupid ballista and the boring sandworm (wich for some reason is stationary wich kills the fact it could be moving trought the lake making it actually challenging) - Archdragon peak is just linear, short, boring and with nothing interesting except Nameless king and items - Anor londo is literally just a chamber with Aldrich inside. That shit isn't even an area at all. - untended graves is a copy of the tutorial area but dark. So creative. And people complain of shife of amana. Not to mention the ridiculous excess of swamps on the game, even the DLC have bloody swamps. But i guess people are too busy whining about the "spatial connection" to do a competent analysis.

The linear level design is the worst IMO since it kills the replayability of the game, and even worse when you think one of the biggest reason the first game is praised is the freedom in level design wich is complete absent in ds3. The NG+ also is boring compared to ds2 NG+, wich is even worse considering ds3 would benefit much more of a ds2 style NG+ since it has the most polished combat.

The bosses on ds3 are better from the most part but people really underestimate ds2 base game bosses

    • the Pursuer
    • Old dragonslayer
    • Lost sinner
    • Smelther demon
    • Darklurker
    • Looking glass knight
    • Verstalt
    • Ruin sentinels
    • Executioner chariot
    • Throne watcher & defender
    • Duke dear freja

Are all good/great bosses from ds2 base game that appear next if not above dark souls 1 bosses (example: https://amp.reddit.com/r/darksouls3/comments/7c9kqv/my_favorite_soulsborne_bosses/

    https://amp.reddit.com/r/darksouls3/comments/6du9yl/top_110_souls_bosses_ranking_all_souls_bosses/)

Weapon arts sucks compared to powerstance and most of the time serve for nothing outside of boss weapons and ultra weapons. Poise works "as intended" (and no, hyperarmor is not poise). The game also removed twinblades to put that trash of "paired weapons" wich are a poor excuse to powerstance with less variety and no malleability.

Weapon balance is terrible: last time i played the dark sword could out-damage the wolf knight greatsword and this is only one of the many inbalances (https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=mdOaOgXtb8g) on ds3 weapon scalling. The game also gives priority to R1 spam due to how swinging small weapons takes almost no stamina. that casualizes a lot of encouters like the monsters in road of sacrifices.

The dragons of ds3 suck. They are the ugliest dragons in fiction and dragon form is complete garbage in both look and mechanics since it gives you 0 defense, weak dragon powers and make you more ugly than satan. Oceiros look so ridiculous it has possible the worst visual design in the series. Not to mention archdragon peak is trash compared to dragon aerie/shire: - in the shire you have cool dragon warriors and glorious drakekeepers, in the peak you have boring serpent man variations. - in the shire you have thousands of dragons flying on the sky, in the peak you have nothing.

The OST of the game are almost all epic orchestras. Now epic orchestras are good but without variety they become boring. Compare that with ds2 tracks like things betwix, majula and the main menu theme wich are some of the best ambient music i have heard. Ds3 menu theme in contrast is loud and annoying.

The combat in ds3 is more polished but the R1 spam, lack of stamina managment and nonexistence of poise really casualises it. In dark souls 3 swinging with small weapons and rolling takes little stamina and is easy to spam. In ds2 the combat is more clunky and metodical were every move counts. Its more chunky but more complex.

Ds2 lore, although have nothing to do with ds1, is deep and complex enought to be good on its own. I can agree that ds2 lore is separated from ds1 but people saying it is bad for not being a sequel is absurd ignorance. It would be like saying GOW 4 lore is trash because its not a direct sequence showing the aftermatch of all the bullshit Kratos did on GOW 3. - The lore of ds3 is composed by a bunch of references of the other games and almost nothing cool or original. They even recycled entire NPCs from ds1. - Another big problem is how the game makes it seems like the events of ds1 happened yesterday with all the recycled NPCs, constant references and fanservice. When they are supposed to be thousands of years ago.

Also this is more of a preference but that "epic end of the world eclipse" thing is too cliche and boring to be the main plot on a dark souls game. Ds2 exploration of the curse and nature is much better and the fact that is not a continuation of ds1 lore only makes it better since ds1 is not the type of game that should have a continuation.

And on top of all that ds3 isn't like an RPG. It feels like a hack and slash pretending to be a RPG. Everything is too epic and the only things it has going for him is: bosses, combat and graphics These being the reasons it became so famous since it appeals to the masses that only care to the surface content wich is the same situation of morrowind vs skyrim.

armor is useless in ds3. The defense balance is horrible since poise is nonexistent and the diference of defense between full havel and a leather armor is mediocre (100 hp at best)

Special or expensive items are useless. For example: - in ds2 the lost sinner set had some pieces with special effects, the smelther demon set made you nearly immune to fire, the LGK set made you near immune to lighting, the hexer set, etc. - The Wolnir crow in ds3, that cost 15000 souls, literary does nothing. No special effect and no defense, just like an lootbox item from a battle royale. another of many examples of this is the hat of the crystal sage.

The consumable items and estus managment in ds3 sucks. They have that useless ashen estus flask that no one uses that is supposed to balance with the normal estus flask...IN THEORY. In practice you soon discover that if you use blue estus you wound't have enought normal estus and unlike ds2, ds3 have almost no consumable items that regain health & magic, wich is much worse than ds2 having them in excess.

On the same vein ds3 has no consumables or items like ds2. Bonfire Ascestics being the most important one. There are literary no cool item or consumable at all. It makes the game even nore distant of being an RPG

This must be because other problem of ds3: the ridiculous excess of bonfires. the mechanic of create bonfires after boss death is stupid and completely useless. It renders the game overloaded with bonfires that don't need to exist and casualises the game even further beyond.

All of that combined also lead to the lack of build variety compared to any other game (even bloodborne) Wich makes the replay factor even weaker.

A lot of bad atitude of people also lead to them whining at the game for they stupidity. For example: all the idiots that entered on Company of Champions the first time without reading shit and later whine that the game is "too dificult" or how people whine about the "baby jumps" wich they don't understand how it work (it only happens if you don't have stamina for a normal jump). Another heavy evidence is the surprising large amount of people that changed mind and love the game after playing it and din't play before because of the ignorant hate bandwagon.

The same is true with a lot of "bad hitbox" claims being heavily over-xagerated and a lot of them blatantly false .

    PvP. Enought said.

Ashes of Arandiel is the worst DLC by far: Since The majority of the DLC is you running from an army of vikings and wolves because you have no reason to fight them (either low or high level) and on the open spaces make it easy to dodge them wich only encourage you even further to ignore them for the entire DLC. The exploration is boring since, like i said above, most of it is you running on snow open fields picking items on the ground with an army of angry vikings & wolves chasing you. - The part where you need to fall "trunks" while archers shoot at you is one of the biggest piece of shit level design in the series with no challenge other than "platform jumping". - Then you have the bosses: Champion Gravetender wich is just an NPC cosplaying (and poorly) Artorias with an shitty weapon and a Greatwolf that is just a bigger version of the normal wolves you see on the DLC. Truly one of the worst bosses of the franchise. (But the Greatwolf would be a petty good miniboss) And finaly you have Sister Friede, the only enjoyable part of the entire DLC. The rest of DLC is really bad level design and incredibly short.

    .

    .

All of that is a matter of QUALITY, NOT QUANTITY. Unlike what some ignorants like to say. EVERYTHING I SAID IS A QUALITY PROBLEM, QUALITY THAT DS3 LACKS.

AND YOU KNOW SOMETHING FUNNY? none of those youtube "critics" (Mattewmathosis, Joseph Anderson, Hbomberguy, Mauler) ever mentioned half of all this. These are the guys people link when debating, yet their critics lack so much detail is not even funny.

SO AFTER ALL THE THINGS DS3 DELETED, DUMBED DOWN OR CASUALISED, THERE IS ANY ARGUMENT FOR IT BEING BETTER THAN DS2?

Dark souls bringing out the inner 3 y.o. in us all

    Posted: 25 Apr 2020 02:11 AM PDT

I AM NEW HERE AND DO NOT KNOW IF THIS IS A SPOILER SO JUST IN CASE.

So most of us learn at an early age to not touch things that don't belong to us i.e. paintings, goblets and the such or take things from creepy old men telling you to touch it, take it. Then along comes dark souls, tempting you, you know you shouldn't but you do anyway then you learn the hard way. That was my DS1, DS3 experience then I throw in DS2 come to this switch with all these warnings (the other games had no warnings like this) don't do it, so I think to myself what can be so bad about pulling a simple lever, all the rest just took you somewhere you had to go anyway (I was on NG at the time and playing offline) then all of a sudden this red phantom shows up so I'm thinking I'm being invaded so I go after him with my Claymore and he one shots me in the face with dark hail. Needless to say I spent the rest of the night researching WTF was going on. Long story short all those times your mom slapped your hand and said don't touch was for a good reason and if you know your offline and no one is trolling you think real hard before you pull that ******* lever.

    Finally beat fume knight

    Posted: 25 Apr 2020 11:50 AM PDT

After about 20 attempts, 10 human effigies and a shit ton of lifegems, i have finally done it. Out of all the bosses i have fought so far, Fume is by far the most difficult. Is there any more to this dlc? There were 3 bosses before i got the sunken crown, i doesn't seem right that there is just one boss before the iron crown, Or am i missing something?

I think I read someplace that you are graded on your behavior, don't want to offend any sensitive people.
