So I don’t know when this appeared...

    Posted: 11 Apr 2020 01:18 AM PDT

But apparently there is now an actual cheat sheet for the Scholar of the First Sin version of the game, in the same style of the Ds1 and Ds3 ones.

I looked for something like these months ago, so I'm fairly certain this popped up recently.

EDIT: Since some people have asked about the other checklists, here's Ds1 as well as Ds3

Crowd Control 101: Taking the Bait

    Posted: 11 Apr 2020 04:47 AM PDT

The early bird gets the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.

Welcome back to my course on dealing with ambushes and group fights in Dark Souls 2. Previously we learned how to identify an ambush before it happened. In today's lesson we'll go over ways to avoid, defuse or nullify a trap so you can get the reward without the stress.

So when you see an ambush coming, you can:

Just Don't Run To Meet It

The way the majority of "ganks" in the game work is that a single enemy aggros on you, then when you run forward to kill him you run right into the aggro range of 2-3 more. You can avoid this simply by learning to let enemies come to you. When you see something aggro on you, stop. Maybe back up a little if you have a more defensible position. Don't run to meet him. Don't try to run past. Let him do the leg work. Iron Keep, Shrine of Amana, every DLC excluding the raid dungeons. It works on them all.

    Flank It

Sometimes you'll be able to circle around an ambush and approach it from a different angle. It's not always an option, but if you're observant you might be able to ambush the ambush. For instance, going in the front door of Pate's Funhouse means fighting a bunch of enemies head on. But if you circle around and clear a barricade, you can go in the back way and start the fight with a free backstab. Other areas may only offer sniping vantage points or just a way to confirm that it is, indeed, a trap. But keep your eyes open and watch for less direct ways to approach a situation. You never know when it'll be rewarded.

    Snipe It

Boy it sure is hard dealing with ranged enemies or obvious ambushers, what with them standing perfectly still outside of cover but not in range of your sword. If only there were some sort of device that stored muscle power and allowed you to propel a projectile over great distances. Too bad there's nothing like that in the game, conveniently placed for free in the first area and usable by any class. Or maybe some sort of magical spell that could fire a bolt of energy at your enemies. Yeah, sure is a shame there's nothing like that in the game. Guess it's time to run into the same ambush and try to melee your way through again. Because that worked so well the last eight times you tried it.

    Single Them Out

If you can't outright kill an ambusher from a distance, just getting his attention is often enough to pull him out of his ambush position so you can pick each one off individually. It's not always possible to only pull one since some enemies will aggro as a squad, but even then you have the advantage of fighting them on the ground of your choosing. Running past their leash distance usually breaks group cohesiveness too, so you can come back and pick them off.

    Spring It Early

Not always an option, but in some cases you can trigger an ambush early in order to have more room to maneuver. The specific example I have is the trap by where you meet Rosabeth. The doors on the upper level can be shot out to aggro the goblins behind them. You still have to fight four of them at once, but there's no basilisk and the door doesn't shut behind you so you have more room to work with. In some other places you may be able to make noise with an arrow to draw enemies out of hiding.

    Just Avoid It

This isn't going to be an option if the ambush is on the main path, but the simplest way to deal with an ambush in an optional side area is to just not go there. Just tell yourself, "I don't need to collect every shiny. I don't need to explore every room. I don't need to see around every corner. I don't need it!" And after you're done with that, go poke your nose in the hornet's nest anyway, because who am I kidding? I NEED IT!

    Final Thoughts

One common rebuttal when I tell people my strategies to avoid ganks is, "It's not fun to play that way." Which is pretty hard to argue with since fun is subjective and all. As for me, I enjoy finding the easiest possible way to defeat a challenge. I'm not actually that good at the game, but with enough preparation I don;t have to be. I'm not saying you have to play the game that way, I'm just saying it's a whole lot easier than the direct approach. Fight smarter, not harder.

    Posted: 11 Apr 2020 03:01 AM PDT

Hey everyone, I'd really appreciate some help here. The door is located below the 2nd bonfire in forest of the fallen giants, near the area where those flame lizards are at.

Coming from DS1 and having issues with my build, anyone have any advice?

    Posted: 11 Apr 2020 01:11 PM PDT

So in DS1 I used to play a STR build with a greatsword and a shield. I liked it very much, but in DS2 I see a lot of changed and I would like some starting simple builds to help me ease into these changes.

Do you have any build you used and how did it play?

Playing DS2 (with DLC) on Xbox 360

    Posted: 11 Apr 2020 12:46 PM PDT

Hi all. I can see orange borders around some locations when entering the travel menu at a bonfire. Am I right in saying that this means that there are other players in those locations in my soul memory range, and therefore potentially summonable?

What do the black pottery liquid things do in Crown of the Iron King?

    Posted: 11 Apr 2020 11:32 AM PDT

When you break them there is some kind of liquid going out, and I have a feeling that it has some possible effect on the gameplay, if it does, how can I use it(if I can)?

In need of a companion (PS4) going to play through dark souls remastered all the way to 3 & bloodborne

    Posted: 11 Apr 2020 02:29 PM PDT

I'm an artist and just really enjoy the darks souls series. Thought I started with bloodborbe and eventually finished that game along with DS3. I decided it would be time to play through and finish the previous games as well. And I was able to finish the base game of DS2 scholar of the first sin. So basically I'd like to partner up with someone and run through DS remastered, tackle all the bosses in DS2 and DS3 and wrap up with bloodborne.

    Second playthrough

    Posted: 11 Apr 2020 10:40 AM PDT

I've played ds2 Sotfs once, with a dex build, and now I'm thinking of going again with a quality build. However, because I think on a second playthrough being rly op early game is fun , I wanted to get a decent weapon and 1 or 2 upgrades early, preferable with a duel blade but not necessarily. Is there a way to do this and if so, how?

    Help with Elana? (XBOX, SotFS)

    Posted: 11 Apr 2020 10:38 AM PDT

    Soul Memory: 2,772,759

I've only faced her 3 times but this is the first boss I've ever thought I will need co-op help with. The first time I got her to like 1/3 health but then Velstadt came in and it was a disaster (he took me 4 tries in his own boss fight so it was painful to see him spawn in), the second time I literally only needed to hit her one more time but once again Velstadt smashed me (she actually summoned two that time and I took down the first one while the npc phantoms fought her, but once her second one rolled around I said "screw it" and ran around in circles away from Velstadt until I could land a hit on her) and on my third attempt I just got stupid and drank an estus while she was firing magic at me. I've never summoned anyone before so I might need some help lol.

TL;DR: I need help with Elana. I'm looking to find someone who I can summon in for co-op but I'll also accept any tips. :)

    Wrath of the Gods

    Posted: 11 Apr 2020 01:34 PM PDT

Don't get me started on those fucking cracked blue eye orbs! For the people who don't know wrath of the gods is a very powerful miracle which you have to obtain through joining the police covenant in heides and you have to invade 150 sinners as a blue phantom and successfully kill them all. A few problems with this: you have to find players worse still they also have to have killed 10 players or npcs. ALL FOR A FUCKING MIRACLE!! YOU KNOW THE HOURS OF DEDICATION YOU HAVE TO PUT IN JUST TO GET ALL THE DS2 ACHIEVEMENT'S!!! Even doing this with a friend is near impossible. Trust me. Me and my friends the absolute pioneers got this achievement and it was killing us. I would like to talk to the retard that put this idea in the game. THANK YOU DARK SOULS!!

How do you defeat the @#!$@#@ Gargoyles ?????

    Posted: 11 Apr 2020 08:58 AM PDT

Ok, so the game was going nice and smooth. I killed the last giant, lost sinner, old dragonslayer, dragon rider, pursuer, the flexile sentry on my first attempt. The sentinels took a couple of tries and then I find the gargoyles and @#!$ them. I am stuck here for hours and I quit it for today but any help for tomorrow or should I try them later in the playthrough.

    How to avoid NG+ triggering

    Posted: 11 Apr 2020 12:21 PM PDT

I've beat all bosses except Nashandra and Aldia (also the gank squad trio and Lud & Zallen but I can't be bothered with them). I killed the Throne Defender/Watcher before the Giant Lord and I have also killed Vendrick.

It is my understanding that when I go back and beat Nashandra that the Aldia boss fight will start straight after. After I kill him is there a way to prevent it from starting NG+?
