Dark Souls is a game, not about saving the world, but about simply deciding what to do with its corpse

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 01:52 PM PDT

I loved the sequels of course, but always felt like they were out of place, or non-canon, only because of what the ending achieves without them. I've always liked the simplicity of Dark Souls because, depending on your philosophical POVs, you have to decide how to confront death, nobody ever pressures you into a choice, nobody assures you your opinion won't matter because there are future sequels with future kingdoms. It's an unnecessary step in the story imo. You know enough to make a choice, but never too much to feel overwhelmed by details that don't matter. You never needed to know much: it's simply a matter of acceptancing death or not.

    A Completed Trilogy

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 11:32 PM PDT

Hey all, 3 years ago I platinumed Dark Souls 3. 1 year ago I platinumed Dark Souls Remastered. Ten minutes ago, I finished up the Platinum for Dark Souls 2.

There isn't much for me to say that hasn't already been said, but all I want to say is: Through all the frustration, anger, excitement, fear, tension, exhaustion, and happiness: I can sleep knowing that no other game will come close to the joy and wonder this series has brought. Whether that's a curse or gift, I don't know. But I do know I can sleep feeling accomplished, and that's enough for me.

And finally, no one can ever say I went Hollow.

    Thank you.

    I am disheartened

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 09:04 PM PDT

So this is my first play through of any of the Dark Souls game, and I made it to the bonfire in Anor Londo just before O and S (the one with Solaire). I got invaded as I was trying to sit at the fire, so I struck at the guy, struck Solaire on accident, and then the invader critical hit killed me. All the summon signs are gone now, Solaire wants to kill me, and I am miles away from the gargoyle bell tower 😪😪😪😪😪 the frustration is immeasurable

    Dark Souls Propaganda [video within]

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 03:53 PM PDT

    I've finally seen the light.

Dark Souls has been a game I've struggled with for a long time. I've started it countless times. I've never made it past Blight-town.

Now, with the help of a friend, I'm on a few moments away from meeting Gwyn.

My perspective of the game has entirely changed. I've always been a fan of its weighty combat and interconnected design, but I've *shrugged* at its attempts to tell a story. But as I've slowly unraveled the world of Lordran... oh boy. There's something that really needs to be said about understating your narrative - leaving it to interpretation - to being misconstrued - to even ... wait a second.

(I hope some of you enjoy this. My buddy who's a big Soulsborne fan had a chuckle. Maybe some of you will too. And yes, he carried me hard through Anor Londo.)

I committed murder, I feel terrible

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 04:55 PM PDT

I killed Andre the Smith to get the key to the grave after losing the 20k souls I was going to use. Hearing him yell "You damned Hollow!" hurt more than his dropkick.

    The Language of Dark Souls

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 05:10 PM PDT

Ever look at the messages and the summon signs and on a few assets that have the writing, and wonder 'is this based off an actual language'? Ive always wondered this and wondered if the glyphs actually make sense or spell out actual thoughts and concepts. Thoughts on this?

A message to MoonlightButterfly - Painter - Ash

    Posted: 24 Mar 2020 01:37 AM PDT

Today I'm working from home, after being in the office last week. While getting outside on the balcony and trying to expose my arms and head to the sunlight in an attempt to detach from work for a few moments, I thought of checking one app which I scantily see notifications for, and realized there was a private message from you. It was a single image, which immediately warmed my heart, which was much needed today, but also after seeing that the account you sent it with and the account on youtube where you shared the movies are now deleted.

I wish I could have received a notification directly that day on February 14, but unfortunately I haven't, and I regret it a lot. Probably wouldn't have changed the deletion and disappearance, but I regret not having been able to properly try to maintain a connection, even if just briefly, and letting you know I was happy you decided to share something with me and how it cheered me up.

But what I'm truly here to say is that I hope you will come back in the future: I'm grateful for all your efforts, for the movies and thoughts shared with me and the world through Youtube and other means. Many people here appreciated you as much as I did, if not more, and are thankful for having stumbled or looked for your videos. I hope you will come back once again, whether not as a creator, still as a user that will enjoy on its own terms and together with everyone else future content that will keep being able to inspire you to think, reflect and discuss. And remember always that what I said will always be true, for me and all those you know or appreciate you: if you ever feel like you would like to talk, connect with someone, to share your own thoughts, in good or bad, or simply because you feel like it, I am here and will always be welcoming of your words.

I hope that wherever you are, in the current situation, you are able to take care of yourself, and that the same is valid of those you hold dear, your family, friends and acquaintances. I had no other place where to write this message, so I decided to put it here on Reddit thinking it will be most likely to be seen from you, to show my thanks and wishing you well, with all the best for your future.

    Thank you and take care.

So here’s an interesting story about gittin’ gud.

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 08:55 PM PDT

So I have completed Dark Souls Remastered almost twice now. But I wanted to share a story about my first time playing.

So I started and was immediately impressed and immersed by the lore of the opening cutscene. I began playing the asylum with great enthusiasm. I knew that I was supposed to run past the asylum demon upon first encounter due to a WatchMojo video I watched like two years before. So I ran past him and lit the next bonfire.

I saw the shield in the next hallway. But somehow, in my dash to kill the archer hollow, I missed the long sword that the class I picked started with. So I went by, found Oscar, and proceeded to fight the demon. I thought "even with this Estus this fight is really hard." I must have fought him and the hollows it took 5 hits to kill 50 times. I learned his patterns so well, but I died about when he had a fifth of his health. I learned about plunging attacks and that did about a tenth of its health.

Then I was like, "I must have missed something. This can't be this hard." So I backtracked, found the sword, then beat the demon on my first try, while taking no hits.

Just goes to show, a little practice can make even the hardest of challenges trivial, if given a boost.

Killing Sif before or after AoTB DLC?

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 08:52 PM PDT

I've heard that there is an alternate cutscene but is that all that happens, or is it worth saving Sif until after the DLC?

Not a relevant story but a one I want to share

    Posted: 24 Mar 2020 02:24 AM PDT

A little bit of context: So I have played dark souls 2 and 3 with m&k and I bought ds 1 and a controller because I heard it's support for m&k is bad. But unfortunately my brother broke the controller and I never finished the game. And so yesterday I saw that DS1 remastered is on a sale. Did a little research and saw its m&k is better and thought that it's a great idea to buy it and play it for my easter vacation. Same night my girlfriend says she wanted to play a game. And mind you her only gaming experience is some Winx game she plaged 10 years ago. So I thought it would be fun to watch her play ds. We spent a few hours playing the game and it got really late at night so we stopped after her first failed attempt of killing the Taurus Demon. So we have a dinner and I went for a shower. Imagine my surprise when I get into the bedroom after the shower seeing her trying to kill the boss. And then I receive the words "You were taking too much time, I had to defeat the second boss". We stayed awake untill she managed to beat him and find a bonfire. I am once again surprised at how good this game series is in order to addict a person whose only experience with game was some Winx game.

DS1 for the first time. Some questions

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 09:56 PM PDT

I want to play DS1 remastered. I played DS3 before, completed it without dlc, but I still feel like a noob in terms of builds, gear, etc. When I tried to search tips for DS1, people only recommend things for those who never played souls series. So I came here to ask what tips you can give to me, who played DS3.

My issue with DS3 was that I love playing mage classes in every game possible, but in DS3 it felt so clunky, underpowered, and just weird in general (I didn't do the whole walkthrough as a mage, just watched some videos and tried playing it a bit using my friend's mage character.

Is sorcerer better or worse in DS1 remastered (compared to DS3)? Is it worth playing? Or better stick with a melee weapon? Also I want to know if dodge is better than shield or shield is better than dodge? What would you recommend? I played DS3 right after I finished Bloodborne, so I spent the whole game dodging AND blocking with the shield at the same time!

So, should I play a melee with a shield, or a sorcerer? And what builds would u recommend? And btw, can sorcerer wear a shield with 100% block rate or even a second melee weapon? Is this kind of hybrid viable?

This game actually broke my heart (Solaire)

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 04:32 PM PDT

The last week I finally decided to play dark souls for the first time and I immediately fell in love with Solaire, how can you not ? He is such an happy guy, always there to talk, praising the sun (after 7 years I finally understood why the meme was so awesome). He made me so happy everytime I encountered him.

I also fought with him against Laurel & Hardy in an epic battle in Anor Londo and we won !!

And then he became always more depressed until the moment he attacked me for no apparent reason with that glowy mask.

I just couldn't believe it and was so sad to fight a friend who was always there for me. I still had hope that after defeating him he would have returned normal but nope, dead.

My heart was so broken and I was so sad he died.

Then I became pissed because I discovered you could save him but it was such cryptic bs.

I also found out there is a game+ mode (hopefully also on the prepare to die edition) and when the time will come I 'll 100% save him this time.
