| Posted: 20 Mar 2020 01:04 PM PDT I met my girlfriend a long time ago online and found out she lives 4 hours from me. I made all my friends through her, after living an extremely uniquely solitary and lonely life. My parents moved every year since kindergarten, resulting in me not being able to connect with anybody. But my new friends seem amazing, and I have a lot of fun with them. And my girlfriend... I love her so much. I feel such a deep connection with her. She feels like my kindred spirit in so many ways. I was in a very dark period of my life when I met them. I've recovered so strongly from it. I've lost a ton of weight, going from 230~ pounds at 6'2 to 165. I've begun taking care of myself, loving myself, living my life the way that I always should have. I feel like she and my friends have breathed life into me, when I never would've had or even deserved a chance before. However, things have turned ugly so quickly, and gotten so awful. My girlfriend inspired me to take back my life - To take my SATs, study hard, work as dilligently as I could - And I got a 1250 on my SATs, 2 years out of high school. I couldn't believe it. I got into a good college near her because of it. I was so unbelievably lucky. But then the College had some kind of issue. I was denied admission. I was heartbroken to learn this, as I had been living with my girlfriend and a friend for a few months leading up to starting college.... and I was denied for no reason! I later got my acceptance letter... It was a clerical error. I was accepted. Had I known about this, I could've called in and insisted, and started. I was destroyed. I had to go back home, separated from my girlfriend. My home life, with my parents, is... Not good. My living situation is abhorrent. I'm not a typical whining teenager, I genuinely mean it. Things are awful. I won't go into details, but life is painful and scary and has been increasingly bad since I returned. I have to survive here until late June to begin schooling. I've planned on moving out in the next few weeks by saving up just enough money to live in a room for the remainder of the college wait. However, the Coronavirus crisis has struck. My father might lose his job. Everything could come crashing down. It's looking like I won't have any money to move out. I'll have to help and keep my family afloat. My father has had very good means, but... He spends all of his money in dumb, dumb ways, and it has led to us being a lay off away from losing our house, car, everything. It's terrifying and it's looking so likely that my chance to escape is slipping. Life has been scary and awful and dark in the last few months, seemingly after having everything pulled back from the brink by luck and by my girlfriend. The next months are looking even darker and terrifying. My favorite game series is Dark Souls... Well, maybe a bit behind Silent Hill or DotA. I feel a bit of a connection with Dark Souls' mantra, the running theme of survival and just moving forward to the next bonfire. I feel like life is so atrocious and empty right now, but I just need to keep moving. I just need to survive and stay alive and breathing. Even when everything around me is dour and dark. | Is there a reason only a few bonfires are tied to firekeepers? Posted: 20 Mar 2020 09:12 PM PDT I replayed DSR the other day, and was wondering if the firekeeper placement in the game had an in-universe explanation. It just seems weird that a few bonfires (Firelink, Daughter of Chaos, Anor Londo) are clearly tied to NPCs, but about 90% of them are just standalone structures. How? Are there hidden characters tending them? On top of this, there are 4 firekeeper souls in the world without any extinguished bonfires to go along with them. There's also the Stone Dragon, who has a kindled fire but can't upgrade estus, acting as a sort of partial keeper. I completely understand why, mechanically, the game is built this way. There are a ton of reasons - being able to shut off every bonfire might make the game impossible for impulsive/murderous players, too many kindled fires would provide too many healing items right away, there would be too many available souls to upgrade estus flasks with, etc. But I don't understand how this makes sense from a lore perspective. I died a bit in Sens but I made it to the bonfire and kindled it to 20 estus: I ran out of humanity but due to a lucky counter I randomly got one. Then, I became human, summoned Tarkus and killed the Iron Golem! Celebration time I guess: the Fire Keeper is pretty cool, and the city itself is super pretty. [link] [comments] |

I finally got down to Blighttown bonfire, poisoned and near dead. When behold, an invader appears. A grim scene. Well, I had just spent the past hour practicing parrying silver knights up in Anor Londo. So I was elated to land a parry on the first try, and a riposte, one-shotting the bastard. Praise the sun! | Please Explain Video Game Economics Posted: 20 Mar 2020 11:35 PM PDT So, I wanted my friend to get ds1 and on steam the remaster is like 35 dollars. This caught me by surprise. I expected it to go down by now. I was recently in an EB Games and my other friend got Bloodborne for like 20 dollars. It's even 20 dollars on the PS4 store. I don't totally remember if this is accurate, but I also remembered seeing DS3 for significantly cheaper on the PS4 store a couple years ago but when I checked it today it was selling for 60 dollars. Anyways, on Amazon DS Remastered for PS4 is 17 dollars. It's still 35 for Switch, but that part's all Nintendo. On Amazon DS1 for PS3 is selling for 25 and for XBOX 360 it's an egregious 51 dollars (I'm referring to new copies in all of these). The remastered version for XBOX ONE is 21 dollars. WHAT??? DS3 for PS4 on Amazon is 15 for the base game and 20 for all the dlc included. Which is an embarrassingly low price after I just bought the dlc on the PS4 store for 25 dollars the other day. I'm also gonna mention that Bloodborne is selling for 19 dollars on Amazon. A tiny bit lower than the 20 everywhere else, but still not the extreme differences that you see in DS1 and DS3.
