I just finished my "No-Fast-Travel Run"

    Posted: 01 Feb 2020 02:47 PM PST

Man that was a blast. Apart from some instances where it's unavoidable like getting out of the BoC room, I didn't warp anywhere and playing this way is a serious game-changer. I urge all of you to go through the game like this at least once ( I know you guys are gonna do 50 more playthroughs anyway so why not this one ?). I was thinking about weather this game would actually have been better if you could not fast travel at all and, at least for me personally, I came to the conclusion that it is. This game's world is so wonderfully designed and interconnected but most of all very near and dear to me, that playing it like this feels like it should have always been this way. God fucking dammit I love this game, even if some moments were infuriating. For example I probably spent a full hour minutes trying to get out of the dukes archives after having been cursed by Seath's crystals because channelers and shitmobs could damn well all one-shot me. But for every second of frustration I experienced there it felt even better when I finally got my curse absolved all the way over in the undead parish and it's not like we play Dark Souls because we find the prospect of being challenged or frustrated before overcoming an obstacle for a bit so abhorrent is it ? Take the bad with the good, take the jank and the ganks with the black knight swords satisfying clank, take your time running back to the giant blacksmith from firelink a million times and don't forgot to stop to smell the roses and look around for a bit in that tragically beautiful world.

    I drew Gwyndolin

    Posted: 02 Feb 2020 01:56 AM PST

For those who aren't aware, you can have enough demon titanite to take a boss soul weapon to plus five by the time you reach the giant blacksmith

    Posted: 01 Feb 2020 10:38 PM PST

The way I do it is as follows: first, titanite demon by Andre. Second, three of the titanite demons in sens fortress. Third, collect all of the demon titanite in anor londo. Fifth and finally, slay the titanite demon in the room beside the shortcut that bypasses the spiral staircase. This will give you the exact amount needed for a plus five boss soul weapon

Another World First SL1 One shot, Hydra!

    Posted: 01 Feb 2020 11:27 AM PST

Man I feel like were spamming at this point, but we finally checked the last box. This was the only miniboss I was unable to one shot thus far. I could have one shot him with a crown of dusk and fire tempest, but the Crown of dusk is locked behind him. So we tried everything under the sun and couldn't one shot him at soul level one. The other hydra has different mechanics so we were able to connect 2 pillars from fire tempest. This one instant resets the second enough damage is done to sever a head. So we decided to find a workaround, just like quelaag. Enjoy! This one was a grind and a half, big shout out to otto and pokisal on twitch for hanging in there with me on stream and helping brainstorm ways to get this done!

Just beat Ornstein and Smough for the first time

    Posted: 01 Feb 2020 06:24 PM PST

Wow. What an amazing boss battle. I'm playing through the series backwards, so DS3 -> DS2 -> DS. This was my absolute favorite battle from all of the games. It took me a solid week of tries, but I did it with no summons, killing Smough first. Lightning Spear +5 for him and Large Club +10 with charcoal pine resin for our suddenly gigantic spear-wielding friend. He had me down to half health with no estus, sweating profusely with my heart about to explode, but victory was claimed, and it was oh so sweet. Love this game.

To everyone thinking Dark Souls is too hard - don't give up!

    Posted: 01 Feb 2020 12:32 PM PST

Today I reached Anor Londo after 14 hours of my first playthrough, Dark Souls Remastered. I have to say that it feels really great to reach this point and it only makes me want to keep going. So to anyone new thinking about dropping the game, because it's too hard - don't do it! It is totally doable and a great game is waiting to be discovered further.

What bosses are easy for you and hard for others vice versa ?

    Posted: 02 Feb 2020 03:11 AM PST

for me artorias is easy, seath is very hard. moonlight butterfly is hard, capra demon is easy i heard people say seath is not very difficult but i had a very hard time defeating him. i find humanoid boss very easy to deal with. the hand movement and everything is very predictable. what about you ?

Just got my wife Dark Souls (PC)

    Posted: 01 Feb 2020 09:15 AM PST

So for Christmas I got my wife DSR. It was more based on me jokingly asking if she could handle it and would play it, to which she said yes.

At first she had a difficult time. She was using a long sword (and keyboard/mouse), had no idea where to go and what to do, and absolutely refused help and guides, because that would "ruin the experience". She killed the Taurus Demon by herself, and cleared out the parish multiple time. Hearing her roar triumphantly over killing the boar was both funny and rather shocking, as she was very very quiet beforehand. She did ask for my help with the Gargoyles, which was her first time summoning, and we had a grand old time! Then she went off on her own for a bit and kept on struggling.

After a while, and a few more bosses, she decided to go back to the Undead Burg, and finally fight that Black Knight. She killed him and got his sword. It was at this point she started using his sword and "got gud" so to speak. She started to wreck bosses without me, clear areas with ease, and started to farm on her own. She suddenly understood what to do, and it was amazing to watch. Now we're co-oping for the sake of souls, and she's coming into my NG+++ world to fight my bosses for more souls too. We just cleared the DLC, which she loved, and are working on getting her as many boss weapons as possible before NG+ (she won't accept any soul/weapon drops, as she wants to get all the achievements on her own and doesn't want to cheapen it). She also just fought Siff after saving him (her?) and was really really sad...

Favorite discussion we've had so far while playing:

    >The kitty is angry!-her

    >Who? Alvina?-me

    >NO! The big kitty!

    >Where are you? What big kitty?

    >The swamp kitty!!!

    >The... swamp kitty? What are you talking about?

    >The hippogryph kitty scorpion!

    >OH! The sanctuary guardian, yeah he respawns.

    >NO, THEY RESPAWN!

Just beat the game for the first time!

    Posted: 01 Feb 2020 09:51 PM PST

I've been a soulsborne fan for a long time. DS1 was my first but I never beat it because I lost my save on the PS3 (had only beaten Ornstein and Smough). Every time I started up a new playthrough I'd lose motivation after getting the Lordvessel and recently stalled on Tomb of the Giants for over a year while I ran thru BB and Sekiro.

Decided to man up and run through the DLC and the remaining bosses today and glad I did it.

I always lurked this sub for years and read/watched a ton of lore videos, thank you guys for being such a big part of video games for me - was a super long time coming. This game means so much for me from all the NPCs I love like Laurentius and Solaire, and the high from the very first time I beat O&S, and it got me to get into souls and souls-likes ever since.

Does anyone else miss how broken int was in the first game?

    Posted: 01 Feb 2020 02:33 PM PST

It's something I actually miss quite a lot from the first one. I genuinely loved how busted sorceries were. I remember the giddy feeling from first trying out the tin crystallization catalyst, testing it out on the giants in Anor Londo and one shotting them. You could already make the game your bitch with any of the crystal sorceries, and then they went and released even more powerful, busted ass sorceries in the DLC. It was incredible. Pursuers to this day is still the most insanely powerful spell in any of the Souls games. The sheer level of awesome brokenness of Dark Souls 1 int builds has never been topped. It was a different thrill, not to test your skill, but to try to break the game as much as possible. People have achieved similar brokenness with power within and red tearstone ring and all that jazz, but still. Int builds were the shit.

I acknowledge they were unbalanced, and I even think people are valid for loathing them, but I truly loved that they were a part of the game. Anyone else share similar feelings?

    It’s Dark....So Dark

    Posted: 01 Feb 2020 09:15 PM PST

This is my first run of DSR and I know that characters have quest lines but I hadn't really looked into Solaire's.....Well, I get to the Lost Izalith and my jolly buddy is just sitting there going through sad boy hours. I let him be and continue and die, red pawn at the bonfire and notice he isn't there; I don't think much of it. Fast forward and I somehow missed the Bed of Chaos gate and find a dark hall that has what looks like a bonfire at the bottom. I run to it and see a dialogue pop up at the bottom. I see the familiar symbol of the sun on my good friend, but his face looks different. "I've finally found it," he says as he groans in agony. I scream internally as I block and dodge his attacks. I can't just leave him like this so I do the only human thing possible and put him down. It was like watching Infinity War all over again. I watch as a much beloved character falls to the ground and slowly fades away from existence. "My sun. It's setting. So dark. It's so dark." In other words: "Ashen one, I don't feel so good."

I kill every maggot in there immediately after. One in particular I notice has glowing red eyes. I can tell he's different; he had to do with this tragedy. I charge up a heavy attack, whispering "this is for you, old friend" and watch the sorry thing die.

Just writing this makes me want to go Hollow. I'm gonna go to town on the rest of this game and also look into Onion dude's story line as I realize I haven't seen him since Anor Londo and I'll be damned if I lose both in the same play through

    You can't poison Gwynevere.

    Posted: 01 Feb 2020 03:40 PM PST

I threw about 50 dung pies to her and I can, without any doubt, assert that she is immune to it.

And that's a good explanation to that: she is an illusion! How can an illusion be poisoned?

Is the Tin Crystallization Catalyst worth it?

    Posted: 02 Feb 2020 01:51 AM PST

I found out that it halves sorceries, and I wanted y'all's take on if it is worth it. I have been blowing through the game with Beatrice's and I don't know if there's enough difference between them to justify a halving of sorceries.

A little background: I'm like 50 INT, but literally I haven't upped my STR ever, so I can kick butt when I cast, but if I run out of slots I literally hit for 4 hp.

    Posted: 01 Feb 2020 10:28 PM PST

My first time playing dark souls and let me say man was it a journey I tackled areas earlier than I should've couldn't upgrade my weapons to divine or past +5 and I knew next to nothing about how to get more estus and many other things in the game it was a fun experience and I can't wait to get started on DS2( I also never realized you could summon other players to help until like halfway through the game)

First time fighting Smough and Ornstein wish me luck

    Posted: 01 Feb 2020 07:04 PM PST

    Ugh!

    Posted: 01 Feb 2020 07:00 PM PST

Was playing through, doing my usual run to get both the Gold and Silver Serpent rings early, and it was a pretty good game so far. The Balder Side Sword dropped without me even trying and overall the drops were plentiful.

Then, as I'm going through the Catacombs and destroy pinwheel with absolutely no problems, I suddenly have a mad streak of bad luck. Just one stupid death after another that really shouldn't happen.. but I kept getting my stuff back.

I've done the early Silver Serpent ring a ton of times, so you'd think I'd seen every way I could die by now. Nope! Of course not! Dark Souls ALWAYS has a new way to die.

So there I was, just having dropped down to the summon sign above the bonewheel skeletons, when all of a sudden, after 10 freaking years of just standing there and not even touching the controller.. my character decides THAT was the perfect time to roll down into the bonewheels.

Luckily, despite the first instantly rolling into me, it went straight through and I healed up while the three of them turned around. As I did, I went around the bend where they could barely see me to help against their godlike tracking abilities, which I underestimated.. because the damn thing gave no fucks about that wall and demolished all my health, making me lose 13 soft humanity, 50k souls, and having me rage quit.

I love this game, but fucking hell it pisses me off so much sometimes. Next time, I'm doing the Silver Serpent Ring before the Gold, like I used to in case of stupid things like this.

I'm most likely gonna be playing it again tomorrow despite saying I'll never touch it again.. like always.

Who is harder, super ornstein or super smough?

    Posted: 02 Feb 2020 12:05 AM PST

I just got done ripping super smough a new one and remembered that I think super smough is one of the easiest bosses but super ornstein was always one of the biggest controller breakers of all my time gaming. What is your stance and why?
