Treat this semester like Dark Souls

    Posted: 13 Jan 2020 06:28 PM PST

    Oh Chosen Undead,

You are enrolled in what is quite possibly the hardest class you've ever taken. Many students weren't even able to make it to Lordran. And of those in your class who did, many will go hollow by semester's end. But you will claim their souls.

    Oh Chosen Undead,

This will be no easy task. While some of your assignments will simply be Hollow Warriors, there will be many Black Knights and Asylum Demons on your path. Treat them with respect, as they will sharpen you for the real bosses. And do not let your guard down -- stay on top of what needs to be done each week. Deadlines can pop up out of nowhere like Ents. Swarm you all at once like Torched Undeads. Stay sharp.

    Oh Chosen Undead,

You will take down each boss, one by one, scoring at the top of your class when exam stats are out. While each enemy looked big and mighty before and duing battle, it was your preparation and persistence that allowed you to come out victorious. It didn't matter that you had another exam on the same day. You still were able to handle both Ornstein and Smough. Make sure to savor the sweet taste of victory by enjoying some tig ol' bitties afterwards (even if she's just an incognito mode illusion).

    Oh Chosen Undead,

Look how far you've come! With your pencil now +10 and your faith maxed out, you tackle each final assignment with courage and determination to see this semester through. Problems that were once bosses are now just straightforward foes. They still test your strength, but they're not as daunting as they once were when you first unsheathed your pencil. None of your four teammates did shit on the final project, and it was a bit rushed, but you still ended nicely. All that's left is the final exam.

    Oh Chosen Undead,

A long, quiet path to the exam room, you're now taking your final exam. The test is going well, but there's one free-response question that's tricky. You roll around in thought trying to figure out how to best attack, only to get repeatedly picked up, squeezed, and tossed each time you attempt to strike. Then it hits you! You realize that if you just use that one theorem you learned at the beginning of the semester, the question becomes trivial. You plug and chug and now you're victorious.

    Oh Chosen Undead,

The semester is over. It's the summer! Enjoy it while it lasts. Soon it will be time to play Calc Souls 2.

    Why is Gwyn Hollow?

    Posted: 14 Jan 2020 03:56 AM PST

Title question. Considering gwyn is a god without humanity of the dark soul how is he hollow in the kiln? Were all the beings in the cave of the flame in the intro hollow humans including Gwyn but only the dark soul carriers were called humans after and light soul carriers became gods? Since originally I thought size differentiated gods and humans but the statue with Gwyn and a pygmy in ds3 shows them around same size and Vendrick in ds2 is a large boy and he is obviously human since he goes hollow and drangleic isn't anor londo city of gods, it is a kingdom of humans.

    Impending duel with Knight Artorias

    Posted: 13 Jan 2020 08:22 PM PST

I've got a lvl. 75 chosen undead ready to square off with the best boss in this entire series (imo). I'm rocking Quelaag's Furysword with 10 soft humanity, 32 Dex, & a couple Chaos Pyromancys. I've been waiting about a week for the right time to sit down & enjoy this wondrous fight another time, and tonight's the night. I just wanted to discuss & pay some respects to the honorable Knight before he's granted mercy by the mighty Finchy.

What are your guys' thoughts on Artorias?

Personally, he's the best individual fight in the series - the Pathos this fight has is off the charts. It's furthered by the cut dialogue that's in the games files, truly showing the Noble sacrifice the Abysswalker made. The bravest of Gwyn's knights, sent to subdue what is essentially a force of Nature in Manus & the spread of the Abyss. He falls short of this lofty challenge, sacrifices himself to save his Noble pup, & then is left to slowly succumb to the influence of the Abyss for eons.

You arrive to a decrepit Colloseum to face him, to find him a husk of his former self - his dominant arm shattered, his mind nearly flayed to threads, yet his resolve is still as sound as ever.

The dance begins, one of the Age of Fire's greatest warriors, pitted against the chosen one, ripped through Space & Time to unknowingly come against a soul as mighty as their own. Artorias is unpredictable, flailing about, laboriously swinging his corrupted sword with shocking ferocity given his state. You trade blows, taxing your lifeblood - your precious Estus, while Artorias draws on that which has destroyed him, the Abyss. His screams are unlinked anything you've ever heard, his suffering as real as the unnatural purple/black aura that empowers him. It shakes you to your core

You keep going, however, knowing that if you fall, the Abyss will continue to run rampant, and history itself will be changed. You see glimmers of the mighty warrior Artorias once was as you slowly break him down. The deadly dance has gone on for what seems to be an eternity, right when you think you've given your last gasp, it happens, he falls.

The mighty Artorias, finally redeemed after ages of untold suffering. You go on to face Primevil Man, and (seemingly) halt the spread of the Abyss. Only 3 beings know the truth of your conquest, while the realm goes on believing the legend of the Noble Artorias the Abysswalker, yet having seen his suffering firsthand, you take no issue with this.

TL;DR, I'm facing Artorias again tonight, & I'm damn excited to enjoy one if the greatest experiences gaming has ever given me. Cheers fellow undead, Praise the Sun, & don't you dare go hollow.

    How does armor defense work?

    Posted: 14 Jan 2020 12:04 AM PST

Few days ago I was fighting O&S in NG++ with 29 VIT and light amor with meh defenses. As I got frustrated that they killed me usually in 2 hits (1 hit melting at least 45% of my health) I equipped Stone chestpiece and Havel leggings. To my surprise, I still died after 2 hits. I then tried to get hit on purpose by the same attack with light armor again and when I compared the difference, it was totally negligible. And no, I didn't get a counterhit.

Then I realized I don't even know how armor defenses work, since I didn't play with mid / heavy armor since my first character lol. Can these defense numbers be calculated to real AR value that gets consumed by it? Is it percentual (like shields) or a constant value that makes most difference against weak enemies and becomes rather irrelevant when facing an enemy that hits like a truck (especially in further playthroughs)?

    Catacombs First??

    Posted: 13 Jan 2020 02:10 PM PST

Just finished my very first playthrough of any Dark Souls game (remaster on switch) after really enjoying Fallen Order. I avoided spoilers and walkthroughs and went in blind, which proved to be a worthwhile but long and very arduous task. However I now know that is partly because you are NOT meant to start with the Catacombs! Figured it was super difficult because it was supposed to be, not because I was way out of my league. Turned around after Pinwheel thinking I needed an item to explore the dark Tomb of Giants. Despite the pain in the ass it was (damn wheel skeletons to hell) I breezed through the next few hours of the game from being overleveled, along with Pinwheel's mask and the Rite of Kindling. If you're just starting out like me, ring the bells first!

The first titanite demon does drop its weapon right?

    Posted: 14 Jan 2020 02:03 AM PST

I'm farming it for a specific run, I have the game saved on usb right next to Andre and have been farming him now at 150 item find for about 5 hours and I've not gotten a drop. I'm so utterly puzzled by this I'm questioning if this one demon even drops the weapon. So depressed by this that I just wanna drop it for a different game. T_T

    I almost quit!

    Posted: 13 Jan 2020 07:05 PM PST

I'm on NG+ and just reached O and S last night. I spent a couple hours trying to beat them by myself, with Solaire, and trying to summon a bro. Unfortunately almost no one is playing on PS3 anymore so it has been tough to summon. I thought about giving it a few more chances and then would just stop playing altogether if I couldn't beat them.

And that is when I was saved. Some dude/dudette had their summon sign at the bonfire with Solaire. You bet your ass I grabbed them as soon as possible. We killed some silver knights, beat the bow and arrow Knight, slayed some sentinels, and then took down O and then S with the company of my boy Solaire.

I'm back. At least for now. I really wish I could coop more on the PS3. It makes it way easier but a lot more fun. I already beat the game by myself, now I want to enjoy it with someone else. Praise the sun!

Sif is one of my favorite bosses of all time.

    Posted: 13 Jan 2020 11:23 AM PST

Now, to be fair, this is my second playthrough(first didn't go so well) of the game and I just beat Sif. As I was fighting her, she got a huge hit on me after I almost killed her. I expected to die to some extreme game ending strike but it didn't happen. In fact, I noticed that she was struggling to fight back. When i realized this, i realized how big of a douchebag FromSoftware is for making me kill a limping wolf. It was tragic. I found out about the story later and it made me sadder. Damn I love this game. Cant wait to beat it and get the other two games!

    Posted: 14 Jan 2020 04:32 AM PST

So I've never played DS1 so I didn't know what to expect in Blight Town, but god it's impossible. After dropping down the ladder I'm either blapped by 1 of 3 hugee emies or I fall through the floor when looking for the bonfire... Ooh and then theirs the poison, so much poison. What the hell do I do

I can't decide which is better. Because dodging seems essential for some bosses but being chonk means I can be hit more

I want to try some mods on DSR. Do I have to disconnect from the steam servers as well?

    Posted: 13 Jan 2020 06:21 PM PST

    Hello,

Since regular challenge runs start being a bit repetitive, I thought of giving some mods a try (especially randomizers) on Dark Souls Remastered. I'm aware that I need to always be offline in game, and never connect to the game server without deleting my modded data saves. Do I have to set steam to offline mode as well? Is Dark Souls Remastered using its own anti cheat service or is VAC doing this job?

Thank you, and praise the abyss.

    Weapon reinforcement/infusion

    Posted: 14 Jan 2020 12:10 AM PST

I have played dark souls 3. So i know the basics of weapon upgrading. But it's diffrent in Dark souls. I got my claymore to +5 then i couldn't get it higher. I found the large ember gave it to Andre, then i reinforcet (or "modifyet") my claymore to +6. Now i get the option to either

    1. make it a raw claymore (whitch sounds dumb, because that would remove all scaling)
    2. make it +5 again whitch... Why?

    What does it mean?

Thank you so much! Your jolly co-operation was fantastic, I'm sorry you fell so close to the end of the Manus fight, that was my bad. Got bogged down switching to humanity in my quick select. I ended up slaying the bastard though, many thanks to you.

Is my game glitched or am I just really stupid?

    Posted: 13 Jan 2020 08:42 PM PST

So I beat the ceaseless discharge awhile back and ive been wandering around a lot. I've seen at least 3 fog walls locked by the great Lord's power. I know that I need to beat Smough and Ornstein to get through but I have no idea where they are. There is a fog wall in Anor Londo but that's also blocked by the great Lord's power. Did I miss something? Is it obvious? Please help.

Edit: I found it thank you all
