Scientific explanation as to the Age of Fire/Dark? Planetary body.

    Posted: 30 Dec 2019 07:59 AM PST

This is stupid and I mostly just think it's a cool idea, but how long is a day on the Dark Souls planet?

As far as I've seen, there aren't really references to a regularly changing day and night cycle in the games. They know both of them exist, but in my memory night seems to be chiefly referred to as an onslaught, a flood, a wave of dark to be feared. Coming to my point,

We have no idea how quickly their planet turns.

Perhaps the Age of Fire and Dark have scientific explanations: Most inhabitants of the planet have yet to live in a world where it can be dark all at once. There's always light or sunlight somewhere, consistently. The biggest changes are in Anor Londo, where the breaking of Gwyndolin's illusion results in a pseudo-moon or a partial eclipse, reflecting the calamity approaching the end of the Age of Fire.

Linking the fire, despite its lofty and magical connotations, could just be a magic system related to Disparity, slowing the rotation of the planet. Once the Age of Dark begins, the planet slowly begins its night. Seeing as we have no idea how large the world itself is, there could be entire civilizations on the other side of the planet, locked in THEIR Age of Dark.

Man a science fiction fantasy Souls would be sick. The concept of primitive astronomy in the Dark Souls world becoming relevant struck me as a such a cool idea.

    Favorite Zone in DS1

    Posted: 30 Dec 2019 08:48 PM PST

What's your favorite zone in DS1? For me it's gotta be either Anor Londo or Darkroot Garden. AL is has such cool lore and regal architecture that gives it an awesome aesthetic. Not to mention, O and S give one hell of a fight. Darkroot is also a contender for me cause of its Zelda like vibe, which is nostalgic for me. What about y'all?

    Question about Lautrec

    Posted: 31 Dec 2019 12:44 AM PST

Should I kill him before he kills the Fire Keeper? I've done my research, just need to know if the armor is worth the effort because I could just get the ring now. I like the way it looks, just not sure how long it'll last me.

The influence of dark souls as we start a new decade

    Posted: 30 Dec 2019 08:57 PM PST

I just recently watched this video on YouTube(by Nerd Cubed) about the most defining game in the last decade. (He says demon souls, but also talks about dark souls since demon souls game out last decade for America and Japan) And I think this video perfectly describes how much dark souls has really influenced gaming. This was made by a guy who hated dark souls at first but the more he played it the more he loved it. And that's basically how my time went, when I started I didn't understand it and now it's my favorite game of all time. Do you guys think it was the most defining of the decade? If so, tell me your favorite story from dark souls!

    Novels or more?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2019 11:52 PM PST

Latelly I have been watching a bunch a youtube videos about dark souls lore and I have to confess that I can't stop watching and learning more. I really enjoy reading medival/fantasy books and I was wondering if there is such thing in the dark souls universe. Some novels that would explain the timelines and the story of every boss and zone would be really entertaining and fun to read. So if anyone knows if such novels exist I would like to know :)

    DS1 Remastered, New Sorcerer question.

    Posted: 31 Dec 2019 03:10 AM PST

Hey all. With the remaster out I decided I'd put off playing the souls series long enough, after a lot of encouragement from friends. I'm not the best at video games, so they're certainly challenging me, and I'm loving the world and game so far.

My concern is that when looking at spoiler free info on the game, most sources tell me that my playstyle, playing as a ranged sorcerer, is just broken/overpowered in dark souls 1, and it's far less "easy-mode" in other games of the series. Wanted to know if there is any truth in this, as if I go through the game as a sorcerer then the playstyle is no longer viable/as good in the other games, I won't have learned how to effectively play melee and will hamstring myself badly.

I've made an attempt at a melee character, and while I do fine on generic enemies, the moment I get to bossfights beyond the first couple I get absolutely destroyed, and eventually give up and go back to sorcerer.

Any advice is welcome, even if the advice is "this game might not be for you if you're not competent enough to play melee." As id rather know now than when I buy the next game.

PSA: You can lure Lautrec's goons away from him one at a time (slight spoilers)

    Posted: 30 Dec 2019 07:57 PM PST

I was having a hard time with Lautrec because he, being the little bitch he is, decides to attack you alongside two other guys - a mage, who does a shit ton of damage with homing spells, and a spearman with a shield.

After much frustration, I found out there is actually a way to fight each of them separately. I stood exactly at the point I spawned (right before Ornstein and Smough's boss room) and took pot shots at each of them from afar, with the Dragonslayer Bow. I don't know exactly what triggered it, but eventually the mage and spearman each ran towards me one at a time, when they apparently decided they'd had enough. As long as you stay near the Oreo and S'mores boss room, Lautrec won't aggro you. If you're having trouble, like me, kill each goon here and only then go for Lautrec. Bitch is fairly easy to take down after that.

Anastacia avenged and saved, now I can finally have an aneurysm/heart attack when I die 80 times against Ornstein and Smough!

What's the fastest way to get 20k souls early?

    Posted: 31 Dec 2019 03:58 AM PST

I have decided a build and more then half of the items I need are ethier achived by things in the area behind the crest of artorias,or because of it(forest hunter grants you access to a bunch of shit, killing sif moves a merchant I need to a much more convenient location)

So it's kind of a requirement

Any plans to get it early the fastest?

    (WITHOUT killing Andre)

    Splits for No-hit runs?

    Posted: 31 Dec 2019 03:54 AM PST

Hey. Been thinking about attempting no hit runs but I'm not sure what site people use to record their splits on stream. Would really appreciate a link or two if people know, especially to the one that The Happy Hob uses.

    Cheers.

Edit: The ones I'm finding seem to be for speedruns?

    Best Pyromancer Fashion Souls

    Posted: 31 Dec 2019 03:00 AM PST

Y'all ever paired Gold-Hemmed Robes with Black Leather Gauntlets and Pants? I've not yet decided the head piece. If only the starter pyromancer hood's color matches the gold hemmed robes color it would've been perfect.

Don't know how it looks on a male chosen undead tho.

    Gargoyles are the worst

    Posted: 30 Dec 2019 10:39 AM PST

Just started DS for the first time a few days ago on switch and while the first boss is hard, the gargoyles are absolutely brutal. I think I've spent six hours just trying to beat them and I still haven't even killed one. Is this common or do I just suck at this game more than I'm supposed to?
