JUST DEFEATED MANUS WITHOUT ARMOR FOR THE FFIRST EVER TIME!!!! (NO CRYSTAL HALBERD)

MY FUCKING GOD! I THOUGHT THIS WAS GONNA TAKE WAAAAAY LONGER!!

This is a follow up of this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/darksouls/comments/eb2go8/just_defeated_artorias_for_the_first_time_with_no/

TO BE CLEAR: I ALREADY BEAT DARK SOULS, HOWEVER, I HAD NEVER PLAYED THE DLC BEFORE. AND WITH THE REMASTER, I THOUGHT IT WAS A GOOD WAY TO DO THEM.

I did it guys! I know people want a video but my computer isn't the best so I can't record and play at the same time while keeping decent fps. I did however take screenshots during the whole fight and during different stages to see that I didn't simply take off the armor after defeating him. I used the solar crest shield on the back for stam regen, two handed the gold tracer (+4) and used the rings of favor and grain ring for the extra iframes.

Bare with me, this is a lot of screenshots since my damage wasn't that high:

Best way to describe dark souls is as a modern classic. Simply because of its influence on gaming. It introduced players a expierence which was uncommon at that time. And now dark souls created its subgenre. That's why it is a masterpiece in my eyes.

    Posted: 19 Dec 2019 02:02 AM PST

A masterpiece is something that elevates art. It's not something that is absolutely perfect without flaw. It's something that is influential. Demons souls started it. But dark souls was the game that created the souls community. The souls subgenre. The term souls like.

    First playthrough. WOW

    Posted: 18 Dec 2019 10:54 PM PST

Okay so obviously Dark Souls has been mentioned in the gaming community heavily as a must play game for years. Finally decided to pick it up and I can't tell you how much fun it has been. At first I got frustrated with everything, the combat, movement, health, stamina etc. almost quit at gargoyles until I adjusted my armor to move faster. Never has a game rewarded exploring and not just running through a game. Been streaming it and people adore watching me struggle through some of there favorite moments and fights. Seems everyone's playthrough is so much different. Everyone warned me about how terrible Blighttown was but i Made it through with relative ease and a lot of enjoyment, but got devoured and destroyed at Sens fortress haha. Idk overall I'm loving the game and tomorrow I explore more of Anor Londo. Can't wait :D

Would you be okay with a Dark Souls 4 as long as it is a seperate timeline/universe from Dark Souls 1/3?

    Posted: 18 Dec 2019 04:35 PM PST

While i am aware that DS 1 and 3 is connected and that DS3 is the conclusion to the story, i don't think it's neccesary to end the franchise, but ending the story would be no issue, no? So to avoid destroying the master piece of a story DS1-3 is, just make a 4th game but not in the same universe/timeline and keep it a seperate and then maybe eventually have DS5 be connected to DS4.

Do you suppose this could work out? And would you be fine with it or would this displease you?

    Dark Souls 3's Hollow Gem

    Posted: 19 Dec 2019 01:18 AM PST

I've been hopping back and forth between Dark Souls & Dark Souls 3, and noticed a pretty cool tie-in between the Hollow Gem in DS3 and your character's own chest in this game!

I haven't seen this pointed out before, but I'm sure it has lol. Just decided to share 'cause I thought it was cool! Please don't hurt me if this is common knowledge lol

I recently discovered that Fromsoft took some textures for the books in Dukes's Archives from a free texture pack

    Posted: 18 Dec 2019 01:20 PM PST

The texture sheet for the books in the Archives (dumped using DSfix): https://i.imgur.com/vPtSDNr.png

Most of them are just taken from old works that are in the public domain, but the one on the right is from a site called Bittbox (Fromsoft didn't even bother removing their logo): https://www.bittbox.com/freebies/free-high-res-texture-pack-the-anatomy-of-a-really-old-book

Nothing wrong with them doing this, I just thought that it's interesting.

Should out to friendly spirit Rambo

    Posted: 18 Dec 2019 10:36 AM PST

So I just recently got to Anor Londo on the Switch Remastered version, and I don't need to tell you how that looks for a first time player. I reached the second Anor Londo bonfire, and figured I might as well kindle because I'd be back here a lot.

So I reversed hollowing and kindled, and I saw a summon sign for a player named Rambo. I figured why not. He must have been high level because he started doing 700 damage to the silver knights. Rambo escorted me through the castle, showed me some secret treasures behind a fireplace I had no idea about (Havel gear!), and guided me to the blacksmith and associated shortcut.

Then, tragedy: we were invaded. But working together, using our brains, and with a little bit of baiting the invader from his room in the castle into the hallway then into our room, we beat him real good.

It was the first time I defeated an invader (after getting creamed by them in Darkroot Basin). It was also the first time that I got to defeat an invader and go "well, what is it?" and do the thing where you continuously block with a two handed weapon, which was very exciting for me. I feel like I'm part of a community I missed out on so many years ago.

p.s. sorry I died with a stupid fall.

Finally made it to Anor Londo

    Posted: 18 Dec 2019 05:42 PM PST

After struggling through Sen's Fortress, and killing a mediocre boss I finally made it to Anor Londo. Made it inside to sunbro with no problems, not exciting for O&S though

Finally got good: got Gwyn with 0 Estus used after many wipes for my first kill.

    Posted: 19 Dec 2019 12:02 AM PST

After failing badly to Gwyn, and almost giving up, I finally managed to get him with 0 Estus used for my first kill on him.

    https://photos.app.goo.gl/xFYeLHXdwANnCCbk8

On that attempt, I didn't look at my health bar or his. I just concentrated a lot, and tried not getting hit.

Didn't get fancy with any parrying, just tried to look for safe windows the good old fashioned way.

I took one small hit otherwise it would have been damageless. The beauty of From Software games is that when they really inspire you to take perfection and precision seriously.

When it clicked, it almost felt like things were moving in slow motion.

Knight Lautrec not in his cell? Everyone dead and no bonfire?

    Posted: 18 Dec 2019 10:13 AM PST

So it's been like 8 years since I played this game and never remember him not being in his cell and have read conflicting info about the roots of my problem. I know he does kill the firekeeper at one point and have to invade him to get things back in order. I've read that I missed out on his armor for this playthrough, but can I still get his ring? I got my estus to +2 and have a third keeper soul that I can't use because of this. So how long will it take for me to get my house back in order and why exactly did this happen? I have not killed any gargoyles, and I have not rang any of the Bells. Maybe cuz i entered blightown early, cuz I got two keeper souls early cuz of early game suicide runs? How screwed am I?

A take as spicy as milk

    Posted: 19 Dec 2019 03:18 AM PST

If/when you stop playing you go hollow. No Matt if it's because you feel you have done everything that there is to be done, you find the game too hard, or you quit for any other reason; when you stop playing, your character, or rather, a more abstract concept of one's existence in relation to the gameworld that can go hollow, goes hollow. (Haven't seen this interpretation before)

Thank you FROM, I hate myself now.

    Posted: 18 Dec 2019 05:08 AM PST

A bit of spoilers. So I'm running a challenge run issued on the ds3 subreddit (finishing game with starting equipment only) and decided I wanted the alternative sif cutscene, so I went to do the dlc first, got Manus after God knows how many tries and rushed into the forest. Damn, that cutscene was rough. Sif started crying and my heart broke. With every swing of my sword I hated my self more and more, and when I killed him I could almost hear him saying "I just wanted to protect you...". So thanks from, I hate myself now.

    Refreshing Community

    Posted: 18 Dec 2019 03:04 PM PST

Man I've been playing souls for years, starting with demons when I was like 13. I played through a good bit and got DS1 when It came out but put it down because it was "too hard" for me( or at least was at the time) sadly I didn't pick it back up till DS3 came out and I bought an Xbox one. Boy was my interest and love for the game rekindled lol I jumped from 3 when I beat it to 2 and then to 1 and then bloodbourne. I've still yet to play sekiro but I have it and am going to be putting in my time on it soon. The point I'm wanting to make is that one of the reasons I was turned off of dark souls was well one because I thought it was too difficult( not a problem for me now though) and two because every time I got onto a forum or some kind of site that was a souls community I was really surprised at how I was either bashed for not knowing what to do, or bashed for summoning help in game. As I got older and picked up the games again I was definitely better at just telling those kinds of people to fuck off but coming onto and being new to the subreddit is very refreshing! All I've seen is pats on the back and encouragement from strangers to strangers and that's awesome! So far I love this subreddit and everyone in it! Cheers everyone!

    Soulsborne

    Posted: 19 Dec 2019 12:27 AM PST

So I'm playing replaying Bloodborne after I just finished replaying dark souls 2, and honestly hear me out guys. I couldn't help seeing small parallels between the dark souls franchise and Bloodborne lore on my first play through of Bloodborne.

After finishing the souls trilogy multiple times I couldn't help revisiting yarnham. This time round I was fresh off the souls 2 lore, and I can't shake the idea that Bloodbornes lore seems to be a repeat of the same cycle that's just set in another risen kingdom that's happened a lot further away in the cycle. So the lore that's being repeated is being represented in a fashion that's fit for the understanding of yarnham.

Can someone that's a lot more lore knowledgeable give some inputs? Am I completely misreading it ? Or is there something there??

[PS4] How is the activity for co-op? I know pvp gangkers are always present.

Thinking of coming back and co-op being the biggest enjoyment I get from Dark Souls games. Please let me know, because a alone play through is not something I am interested in right now. I want to sun bro and help people. Thank you.
