Started a caestus build as King Vendrick

    Posted: 18 Dec 2019 05:40 PM PST

Im sure its not the most optimized or efficient build, but i have two fully upgraded caestus and the full kings set on and I am having a blast running up to dudes and jabbing em with my kingly fists. I sincerely enjoy imagining that some soldiers see me running up to them and are overcome with joy at their monarch approaching them, in all his splendour, only to get a face full of pain as I pummel their whole body right to hell. Just killed the Last Giant who probably was real mad at mr I-hate-giants coming back for round two with nothing but some bruised knuckles and a can-do attitude.

    Rarest item in DS2

    Posted: 19 Dec 2019 08:03 AM PST

So I believe after playing the game for years and reading over the wikia i found the rarest item in the game.

    Red Lion Warrior Cape

Its dropped from 1 mob in shaded ruins who only has 1 life regardless of being in champions covenant, pure rng if you get it or not (its the blonde haired lion) it actually has a really nice look and reduces fall damage, i have it on 2 of my characters.

Can anyone think of another really rare and annoying item to get?

You! You! Give us smooth! Yes! You! Give us silky!

    Posted: 19 Dec 2019 10:32 AM PST

Is it me or are these guys just a tad pushy?

Side note: Accidentally using a silky stone instead of leaving it feels worse than rolling off a cliff in this game. I wish they would have made an "are you sure?" notification when pressing Use.

    So I got invaded yesterday

    Posted: 19 Dec 2019 05:57 AM PST

I was at the tower apart bonfire in the bastion, hollowed almost to half health (I'm terrible at the earlier stages of this game), I try to warp with bonfire but got an error. "Damn it, someone invaded me". This guy comes in, looks at me (I was wearing the invisible auros armor), emotes "no" and drops the normal auros set. Waits till I pick it up, then moves to the bonfire, lights a torch and stares at me. I do the same. We started wailing on each other with torches. This was probably the weirdest thing that has ever happened to me, but I laughed the whole time. I don't remember your name dear invader, but thank you for the armor and thanks for the laughs

The place is great! I love it! Very peaceful and calm with great aesthetics! I'm not trying to kill myself right now and I really love those priests and water holes! And what about you getting stucked on 1mm of rock? Awesome! And being slowed down by water BUT the enemies run normally? Great! I love this place like my life!

i want a heavily armored guy ''insert armor recomendations here''

with his primary weapons will be a hallberd ''halberds anyone?''

i also want a good side weapon also give me ideas here

its the first time im going for a tanky build so i would also like to see how my stats would be for the best.. i dont plan on being a pvp character but its not bad being able to withstand some fights

Also what infusions should i use if any?? my basic plan was to scale dex and str... keep in mind im also planning for some thick armor (not some obvious overused one though)

i dont know if im missing something but im open for ideas guys

Question about magic (pure FTH, pure INT)

    Posted: 19 Dec 2019 06:20 AM PST

Recently I tried pure faith build in Dark Souls and it was fun - had to do many things differently (like going early to Catacombs/Tomb of Giants) and it spiced things up. Crescent Axe was fantastic weapon, really powerful (well, except against anything in Duke's Archives, that place was my nemesis). I also did play as pure Sorcerer (well, not entirely pure, but I focused on spells) once, and it's obviously OP.

And I wonder - if I know how powerful Hexes are, is there a point in going pure INT or pure FTH in Dark Souls 2? How viable it is?

As I mentioned, Crescent Axe did the job for me and I used miracles mostly against bosses. But I do know there are couple of AoE miracles in DS2. Any good to beat gank squads?

And sorceries, those are much different - not only "arrows", right? How viable is magic?

    Moonlight greatsword is unfairly balanced...

    Posted: 19 Dec 2019 05:51 AM PST

I mean, it does a regular damage that any other infused Ultra Greatsword can achieve, even less than some other UGSs, and yes it is practically an UGS, no discussion here, it is only stat and weight suited for a sorcerer. But what bugs me is the infusion... You loose 76 base damage, yes, infusing it with magic REDUCES your magic damage, but increases the Scaling, so in lvl 99 int you get 38 damage... With an S scaling... If it worked like any other int weapon you'd get 150 extra base damage more or less... And the extra scaling, now that is a good infusion for a pure magic ultra greatsword, youd have 758 instead of 608, thats more suited for an UGS and on par with Crypt Blacksword's 850 AR... This is unfair Edit: i was wrong in the numbers, if you gain 150 instead of loosing 76 its not 150 more than the actual damate but 226 more damage. Thats 834. More than i was thinking first

[SOTFS] When should I stop leveling up ?

    Posted: 18 Dec 2019 09:27 PM PST

Title. I'm doing a max damage hex build. When should I stop leveling up, or should I just keep going until I get FTH and INT to 99 ?

There's no community cap nor a hard cap for stats so I can keep leveling up, but at the same time, constantly having to level up is kind of a chore as whenever I lose souls, I'll feel bad about losing them since I could've leveled up with them instead.

What should I do vros ?

    My day is going great!

    Posted: 19 Dec 2019 01:35 AM PST

So, today, after grinding the dragon knights for 5 days, in the covenant of champions, I finally got the last dragon scales I needed to rank up the dragon covenant and receive the dragon torso stone. After this, I went to beat the blue smelter deamon, since it was the only one I did not do yet in the ng+ dlc. Beat him first try

In total, I used 11 humag effigies, 1200+ poison arrows, 300+ lifegems and got one shoted 10 times by the dragon knights, but in the end it was worth it!

    Posted: 19 Dec 2019 08:59 AM PST

I'm looking to start a dual wielding greatsword build (PvE only so not worried about leveling limitations) just wondering about some peoples favorite greatswords. I havent done a run through with greatswords yet on this one so I'm not entirely sure what's fun to use. So far I got my eye on the classic claymore and maybe moonlight.

    Dark Souls 2: Bad Bosses?

    Posted: 18 Dec 2019 05:24 PM PST

The Last Giant: He's a very interesting boss, reminding players of the previous franchise that there are still giants in the game. The focus of the fight is not the environment, let alone some tricks, but as the player must behave in dodging situations and at the right time to attack, the player is penalized when he is greedy, but is rewarded for respecting the boss, who is Something very interesting.

The Pursuer: OK, this is the most memorable boss in the game in my opinion. The stalker looks impressive, makes the player tense, is one of the first bosses to use sword and armor in the game. Its arena is simply magnificent, a sunset on the right side and ballistas in the background and offers two ways to approach the fight. The first way to approach the fight is to kill the boss in the normal way, the benefit of this is that you are not surprised by his other appearances in other areas of the map. The second way to approach the fight is to use basic combat mechanics, dodge and ballistas from the arena, facilitating the fight and teaching the player something new, but the best thing is not in it, but in the sense that the terror is over, and we were surprised soon after on the next map, you can run away, but you can't hide.

Dragon Rider: New look, expressive damage, trick and reward, approach and contrast with the dragon in the SOFTS version. This is the Dragonrider at a glance. He is the first boss in the game who teaches the player how to use map mechanics to gain benefits in the fight. The player who killed the enemies is rewarded with an easier fight, but if he uses shortcuts, the boss will be scary. Not because of its appearance, but because of its area, it is very easy to fall from the arena. One of the first bosses in the game that teaches the player that combat area is important.

Flexible Sentry - This boss is greatly underrated, introduces a new kind of visual style, is a boss who has two ways of fighting and offers the player a similar experience to the stalker. It's another boss who teaches the player that the arena he is in is important; You can use the wooden centerpiece to prevent damage, but more importantly, the water level increases progressively, making the boss much harder. It's amazing how in Dark Souls 2 they were able to place normal enemies as bosses in proper environments.

Ruin Sentinels - The best boss fight ganksquad, in my opinion, difficult, expressionless, punitive. The arena of the fight is fantastic, we are fighting the sentries receiving a moonlight illumination. Ruin Sentinels once again puts past knowledge of other fights in his arena, first the player falls into a small space against a sentry, terrible, no? The sentry becomes much more difficult, but more importantly, after the player kills the sentry and the others go up, it is possible to let the second sentinel with the half of life to make the fight fairer, but there will still be two sentinels to fight against... It is the struggle that drives people to Heide to explore the map for its difficulty.

Skeleton Lords - Interesting concept, the first skeleton boss we see in the game, group control, no lock, different approach, makes the player use their items In the arena, it is possible to use the bone piles to dodge spells, it is very clear the mechanics of the fight, each Skeleton Lord that the player kills turns into several skulls, most people did not pay attention to him and had to deal with many skeletons (laughs), yet another fight in which the game teaches the player something, it's amazing how Dark Souls 2 managed to introduce people much better than Dark Souls 1 or Dark Souls 3.

Covetous Demon - Funny, fun. Covetous Demon is an underrated boss, yes, it's a way for developers to talk, hey, calm down, not everything is stressful or difficult in this game, Covetous constantly tries to attack the player, but his body stops him, you can shoot over pots to facilitate the fight (laughs), he also has the best attack of this game, eats the player who seriously underestimated him and takes all his items, I know someone who made another character because he thought it would not be possible to retrieve the items, really.

Mytha - Concept extremely compatible with history, fast attacks and mobility. Mytha is a very difficult boss with poison in his area. He urges the player to come into deeper contact with the map if he is offline, thus removing poison from the fight. The way we approach Mytha is totally different from others, but why? well, it's not possible to be near Mytha all the time, she has an attack that is very hard to dodge, so we get close sometimes, far away sometimes, the pace of the fight is totally different.

Smelter Demon - The inspiration of Smelter Demon was The Last Giant, an interesting concept designed to be difficult. Smelter Demon is another boss that punishes melee players, varied attacks, small area assisting boss attacks, different pacing, once again in Dark Souls 2 it is possible to use pre-fight artifices as a benefit, there is a Pharros stone with water. , allowing for a better fire defense against Smelter Demon, this is just brilliant, in the vast majority of bosses in Dark Souls 2 there is always a way to use the map or area.

Old Iron King - Old Iron King, or rather Old Hole King. The fight against Old Iron King disappointed many people who expected something much more difficult and complex of such a scary design. In my first fight against Old Iron King I found a boss so much fun, I fell into that damn hole several times, it was so silly, but at the same time funny that I keep trying. It was a great way to keep me playing the game after getting angry at Iron Keep, talking about the fight itself, it requires better roll timing in all its attacks and better positioning .

The Lost Sinner - This was one of the bosses where developers tried to do something other than "guys in armor", pacing like Artorias, offers a different approach, no lock, you can use map items to open doors and brightening up the arena, requiring good player timing and severely punishing greedy players with their dodges, is simply a perfect boss for the time he was introduced.

Najka - Looks like I've seen this boss before, oh yes, Queelag, it's a clear reference but not to be missed though it doesn't have an innovative look, it has a lot of attacks, punishes the wrongly positioned player, My first fight with Najka was with Tark and it was very "sentimental" to me, this is in my opinion the trump card of this fight. You can cut Najka's tail and use the map itself to prevent underground attacks.

Congregation & Prowling Magus - Yes, this is the boss everyone hates, but it took me a while to understand his purpose after doing a few SL1 races. This fight induces the player to move frequently on the map, the hollows on the ground and the Prowling Magus area attack is intended to prevent the player from backstabing the Congregation. The congregation also uses a spell to reduce damage by avoiding a quick kill, the only official problem of this fight is the amount of life of the enemies. No, is not a lot of enemies played without any creativity, they thought in the area/boss.

Freja - How can I say, it's a spider, right? Duke Dear Freja repeats the purpose of the Prowling Magus fight, the player must be in constant motion and without using the lock. Spiders are used to slow the player's movement in the arena and provide consistent damage, the ground near Freja also reduces player movement making it difficult to move and roll, it is possible to cut Freja's head and use torches.

This fight, definitely, this has been thought, there is a very clear purpose in this boss, maybe he is not the hardest, but he plays the role of a boss in Dark Souls.

Royal Rat Vanguard - Rats, rats everywhere, many rats. OK, I know you think this boss is meaningless and a complete rubbish, but calm down, I'll explain why he has a differential. It is obvious that this boss did not have as much work as Fume Knight or another boss, but he still plays a peculiar role, the way we should approach the fight is by moving frequently and using consumables, spells or even weapons with high range of damage, This fight is not only about attacking and rolling, you need to identify the main mouse and use the items in your inventory, it's an optional boss, covenant, but it's not just "put a bunch of rats and called them a boss", I found that cool.

The Rotten - Rotten has its Nito-inspired design instead of skeletons are now undeads attached to a sleazy body. This fight uses some concepts previously shown to the player, the boss arena and the possible interactions that can be made. The arena has some puddles of fire strategically placed to limit the area and to assist Rotten. Players using shields are the most harmed in this fight, shield-blocked moves cause the player to move a few inches backwards, sustaining fire damage most of the time. Rotten penalizes early rollers or players. players who are greedy, the fight itself is tense, any wrong roll can be the death of the player.

Twin Dragonriders - The concept of this fight is quite simple, while Dragonrider Bow shoots arrows, normal Dragonrider attacks us, this fight despite being a "reskin" has a different approach, the player must shoot arrows at Dragonrider Bow or make some thing otherwise the fight would be a little more difficult, this is a typical case where the developers of Dark Souls 2 take advantage of a fight that shouldn't be important to teach the player something.

Looking Glass Knight - Spectacular design, intense atmosphere, rain and thunder totally match this boss, the feeling that this fight gave me at the beginning is that I was in a coliseum, all in ruins, fighting an unknown warrior, this it was very cool. Glass Knight has an arena where the player does not interact with it, making the fight more difficult, its movement and attacks are heavy and slow faithfully demonstrating to the player that he is a "glass knight", he has one of the best mechanics I've seen in a bossfight, his shield summons players in the fight, this is VERY COOL, seriously, the boss gets much more passive and ranged so it's not unfair. It has varied and slow attacks with high damage, it takes good timing to dodge attacks, creates false attack opportunities for the player to be surprised.

Demon of Song - Man, really, this boss's concept is very good. In Shrine of Amana we hear an extremely sweet and beautiful singing, we think it is from someone extremely beautiful and kind, but in the end we find an ugly frog singing, this is a very well done contrast in Shrine of Amana, they present something beautiful and then something ugly, we are surprised. The arena itself is extremely beautiful but the fight has only a basic "open and close" mechanic, I find the difficulty fair because Shrine of Amana is hell, a tough boss would be totally frustrating (imo).

Velstadt - Varied moves, proper speed, extremely well designed design, no interactions with the map as the fight doesn't want to help the player, probably one of the best fights in Dark Souls 2, no more letters are needed as anyone who fought against Velstadt knows the value of this fight.

Throne Watcher & Throne Defender - Inspired by Ornstein and similar to Heide Knights, W&D performs a bossfight properly, any kind of greed or failure the player commits is punished. Watcher has greater speed and greater range on his weapon, spells, aoe damage and buff on his weapon. Defender is slower, has more life, more defense, shorter range, constantly tries to defend Watcher from player attacks, removes the shield after a certain amount of life to get faster and more aggressive by putting more pressure on the player, this is based on my SL1 experience, maybe with more life bossfight is less interesting because the player can trivialize attacks with his life.

Nashandra - How can I start ... Nashandra's concept is interesting, her design is interesting too, but she's not designed to be the final boss, not at all she's a bad boss but her attacks are "bland", orbs create an area control so that the player has less room to duel by forcing a close combat, his physical attacks could be more expressive and with better timing, the laser could be something more creative, faster, could punish the player more for decisions. unnecessary, anyway, she's a boss worthy of Dark Souls 2, but could be a lot better because she's a final boss, not generic, but doesn't feel very good

Aldia - Is Aldia's design something, how can I say, weird? Aldia's fight is very simple but it feels much better than the fight against Nashandra, its addition was fundamental to give the player the feeling that it's all over, not a complex or difficult fight, but Aldia is so memorable that it makes make the fight as good as Gwyn.

Conclusions: Dark Souls 2 is a master at introducing new people to the game, with map and fight interactions, making exploration rewarding and progression fun and not stressful with different approaches most of the time.

Note: Grammatical errors will be corrected, some bosses will be added, Giant Lord and Guardian Dragon are unnecessary.

    Origins of the name "vendrick"?

    Posted: 18 Dec 2019 10:36 PM PST

Out of all the fictional names in the soul series this is by far my most favorite one. I looked on goohle and lore pages but nothing about this name. I know its fictional but its gotta have some meaning behind it like some other carachters. "Filianore" for exapmle its got some meaning (look it up) and i tought "vendrick" wuold have a background. It can't be completely random and meaningless. It sounds too cool to be so.

How to kill the Flexile Sentry the warrior's starting gear, Company of Champions, and no rolling

    Posted: 18 Dec 2019 05:25 PM PST

    Previous boss: The Pursuer

My setup. In case you can't identify rings from pictures like me, the rings are:

    1. (Top left) Covetous Silver Serpent Ring +1 (this isn't necessary I just like extra souls)
    2. (Top right) Ring of Blades
    3. (Bottom left) Ring of Binding
    4. (Bottom right) Red Tearstone Ring (hereafter "RTSR")

The only things that have changed from The Pursuer to here is the Ring of Blades, the Broken Straight Sword is now +5, and I have 24 vigor.

    Movement

Ok, so you actually don't want to circle-strafe the Flexile Sentry. Hugging the sentry gives it more opportunities to attack you. You want to keep lots of distance between it and yourself, preferably on the mace side of it because it attacks less often there, giving you more opportunities to heal. You want to be constantly moving so it never gets close enough to do one of its combos. In the deep water, you're gonna be using up lots of stamina keeping away, so try to sprint in short bursts. Surprisingly, it's still easy to keep away from the Sentry even in deep water. You want to keep the pole between you and the Flexile Sentry. This causes the sentry's leaping attacks to deflect off of the pole, giving you a good opportunity to strike.

    Attack

This is the first time that you have to use your shield as a shield and not a glorified parry. You want to look out for one main opportunity to strike: whenever it finishes a mace attack. The leaping attacks are easy to get in, get a couple of hits, and get out, but if you're in close range, you want to just tank whatever is coming at you. Your shield will take a lot of damage for you and you won't actually lose a lot of stamina. Anyways, when you're in close range, tank the hits, then either get out or strike 2-4 times.

Repeat the movement and attack patterns as necessary and it should go down easy. It only took me a couple of lives to develop this strategy and kill the Flexile Sentry. Don't go hollow!
