/r/DarkSouls - Modding Monday. Posted: 17 Nov 2019 10:10 PM PST Welcome to the weekly Dark Souls mod announcement and discussion thread! Beware! Use of mods whilst connected to the internet can cause you to get banned from online play! For more information, or to continue the discussion visit /r/ModSouls Using mods (PC only!) to enhance or add new content to the Souls games is great fun! It is important, however, to understand that mods are against From's EULA/ToS, so there is a great risk of being banned when using them due to From's anti-cheat--which is deployed in most versions of the Souls games. Versions of the games where modding is safe due to no anti-cheat: Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition Versions of the games where modding carries a very high risk of being banned: Dark Souls: Remastered Dark Souls II Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin Dark Souls III Our recommendations for safe modding *This advice is intended for first-time or relatively inexperienced modders who want to get into modding without risking a ban on their main Steam account. Basic Steps: Make a separate Steam account Use Steam's Family Sharing feature to provide your new account with access to your main Steam account's game library. Install games to be used with the new account in a separate directory. Once you've found your mods be sure to read (and follow) the mod author's instructions carefully prior to installation. Set Steam to "off line" mode. Install the mods and perform any necessary setup. Enjoy the fun and interesting experiences offered by mods! After 8 years, I have finally completed 100% of all the Dark Souls games Posted: 17 Nov 2019 06:24 AM PST Just an awesome feeling. Just a nostalgia post, reminiscing what this game series has given to me, among others in this community. I have "cleared" all of the games tens of times each, and currently I have 1095 hours played time between each of them, and their different versions. I never read any guides - this was a principle of mine, and why it took many playthroughs for each game to find everything hidden within. My first playthrough was also always completely solo for each game - no summoning help, NPC or otherwise. Earlier this year, to my astonishment, I found out about the Dark Souls II boss Lud & Zullen from an image I saw somewhere, and realized that for years, a boss had eluded me. I set forth on my last journey, creating a ridiculous Havel set wearing character, and beat the boss I had missed, also clearing the game all the way to the end of course. Even found a few new things, which I didn't believe possible any more, such as these invisible black moths in The Gutter. I just think this series does something that no other game ever could. The replayability, the struggle, the feeling of victory when you finally down that difficult boss for the first time. The awesome bosses, the fun PvP, trying out different builds, astonishing area design and art. And now, nostalgia. Dark Souls is like life itself. You journey through unknown surroundings, where you are the only constant. On the way, you meet strangers, some friendly, some hostile, and as your journey goes on most of them fade away. They come and go. You face great challenges, and great victories. And of course, in the end, you end up dead. Having spent around 136 hours a year on average (if my math is correct) over 8 years with this series, it's been a ride and the greatest video game experience I've had. I'm 31 years old, so there have been quite a bit of games to compare to! Now I think I have finally cleared all the games, and found all the possible content, hidden areas, secret chests, fog walls, completed all the possible quests. I checked the wiki pages to make sure. 100%! Some highlights I recall from the runs: -Ornstein and Smough on my first ever character back in 2012 took me 42 tries to kill solo. -My first and second playthroughs of DS:PtDE I missed how to access the DLC completely and had to restart. -Similiar to above, I missed Smouldering Lake completely on my first Dark Souls 3 run. -My first character used the Manserpent Greatsword, Black Iron Set and the Black Knight Shield. -The most terror I ever felt was The Depths, first time, when I discovered the Basilisks. -The toughest mobs, to me, in the entire series were the black cat beasts in the DS1 Darkroot Forest. -I find that on a non-optimized character, Darkeater Midir and the gauntlet to Lud & Zullen + the bossfight itself were the most difficult things to solo kill in the series. I love it that the last task I had to do, was probably the most difficult one. What a finale. Edit: Had to add what is probably one of the funniest PvP moments I recall: https://youtu.be/Mye2s0xY7O8?t=102 I'll also never forget jumping down into the Cave of the Dead first time, or opening the door in the Gutter that hides the Havel Set for the first time. These kind of moments just made me laugh at the sheer absurdity. "Dark Souls, oh you." So many great memories, co-op with friends and strangers, epic duels, epic blunders and carefully crafted content that I'll remember for the rest of my life. Miyazaki has said that he won't stop his studio from making a new Dark Souls game, but he is now invested in different projects. I sure hope one day I get to be the Ashen One once more. The Dark Souls community is great, and this is the greatest game series that has ever existed if someone asks me. Nothing even comes close. Other games don't feel that awesome any more, in comparison. In any case, I wish all the Seekers of Fire, Ashen Ones, Chosen Undeads and whatnot a great time in your adventures! Was an awesome ride that lasted for probably 10% of my life! I mean shit, I almost teared up a little. Tongue but hole. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mp28JPs25ek Don't give up, skeleton. Hey it's my cake day, and my birthday irl! Posted: 18 Nov 2019 02:10 AM PST Well actually my real birthday was on the 16th, and it was actually not the best.. I thought I would just go to my favorite subreddit for my favorite game and post something. To better days! Hurrah! [link] [comments] |
I originally gave Dark Souls a horrible 1/5 rating years ago Posted: 17 Nov 2019 02:00 PM PST About half a decade ago, I acquired Dark Souls for free from an Xbox giveaway. I barely knew anything about the game, except that it had been extremely popular and that it was somewhat difficult. Since I had no Xbox Live subscription, I played it offline and blindly. After beating the tutorial area, I was thrown into the Firelink Shrine. Because I was offline, I didn't have any hints left behind by other players and I had no idea where to go. I first tried going down the stairs. After fumbling about for 30 minutes in frustration, I gave up trying to get past the invulnerable ghosts. It seemed frustratingly stupid to me that the zombies below were so easy, but the ghost section was abruptly difficult. I then tried going down into the cemetery, but the skeletons were too strong. They were WAY stronger than any of the zombies in the tutorial section. I spent another 2 hours there trying to level grind from the skeletons, but it wasn't going anywhere. It didn't seem like there was any other place to go, so after 5 hours of wasting my time, I gave up, uninstalled teh game, and gave it a lousy 1/5-star rating. It wasn't until years later that I gave DS1 another try, this time following a friend's suggestion to head up the path to the Undead Burg, which I didn't find during my first try. That was the missing piece. I really liked the game the 2nd time I played. By the time I played through the Catacombs the right way, I unintentionally 1-shotted Pinwheel. I have since beaten all 3 Dark Souls games and have a favorable review of all 3. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 17 Nov 2019 09:29 PM PST TLDR: two strength/faith builds need help with Artie. My friend and I are co-oping the game, and we're about level 80 at Artorias. We're having a jolly good time leveling whenever just because we can (and I kept leveling with her thinking that even with a password we had to be within about 10 levels of each other), and we have hit our dear sweet sad man Artorias. ... He's wrecking us. And not in the fun way. I can't wear ALL of Havel's armor without chunk rolling, but I can wear everything and then the mask of the father. I've gotten very used to two handing a black knight sword (+5) with a silver knight shield, and miracles. My friend went into the playthrough COMMITTED to cosplaying Oscar, but it's not a good build for said friend. Friend is struggling. Friend is a two handed whacking weapon pyromancer at heart. But they are committed. SO! What advice do you skeletons have for a pair of skeletons while trying to take on our favorite Artie? Note: I want to do this DLC before we fight Sif so the two of us can be mortally wounded forever. Note 2: If you ask if we've tried getting good, I will come to your house and eat all of your socks. Posted: 17 Nov 2019 08:33 PM PST Has anyone ever been summoned into someone's world, and watched while the host proceeds to utterly smash the entire level and the boss, with you doing pretty much nothing but moral support? [link] [comments] |
Why isn't the Greatsword of Artorius better than it is? Posted: 17 Nov 2019 10:19 PM PST I'm about to enter NG+2 for the first time ever, and I thought it may be time to switch up my weapon. I have 30 Str, 18 Dex, and 50 Faith and Int. That seems like perfect stats to wield the Greatsword of Artorius, and yet when I plug those stats into a damage calculated, basically any of the two handed weapons at +5 Enchanted/Occult are better. What gives? I feel like that sword was made to be an Endgame weapon. What am I missing, the Greatsword o' Art's attack aren't that much faster, and it's moveset isn't stellar either. Is there a differen't endgame weapon I'm missing, what should I be using if not the weapon of the biggest hyped hero of the realm? [link] [comments] |
Holy shit. I just beat the Soul Level One Run Posted: 17 Nov 2019 08:34 PM PST So, I had just started a soul Level one run about 3 to 4 weeks ago. I only played on the weekends, and one week I also took a break. The rules were simple. No Leveling Up, No Upgrading Pyromancy, (pyromancer is the only class that starts at level 1) and No NPC or Player summons. And, well, it was actually pretty easy. The hardest boss was Gwyn, because I was tired and alone. I was talking to my sister casually and beat him. The hardest part was probably new londo to be honest. Well, I've beaten Dark Souls naked, and now at Level One. Am I a some kind of diety now? Nah, I become a Dark Souls god when I do a no hit run. So, what next? I think No bonfire is next... Anyone remember the mysterious “Developer Fashion Souls” armor set? Posted: 17 Nov 2019 07:29 AM PST Hey, a while back (years potentially?) there was a post here about a handful of photos of the developers playing the game, and there was like one reoccuring armor combination that led people to believe it was one of the developer's "favorite look." I think part of the armor set included the Royal Helm (Vamos's golden viking helmet) and the Zena chest armor, but I don't recall the rest. If anyone has a link to that thread I'd be really grateful! I've been trying to find that armor combo for a while now [link] [comments] |
Posted: 17 Nov 2019 10:20 PM PST My first experience with the underground of dark souls was salty. My first blind playthrough of thd series was 3 years ago, one time I struggled with the capra demon for two days and when I finally killed it awarded me with a key, I thought it couldn't get worse than the capra demon and the lower undead burg, oh boy how wrong was I, as soon as I opened the door and walked downstairs I was hit with a text the dephts and then I realized that It was the cliché sewer level of every video game, but this area gave me ptsd I roamed and died throughout the area unable to find a bonfire and then I found it, but I did not realize I just doomed myself, I got cursed by those f-ing basilisks at this point I didn't have any purge stones because I didn't buy any from the guy in the gargoyles boss area because I didn't what cursing was, but I was there in the sewers trying to find an exit, until I found the fog guarded by a channeler and some rats I killed them summoned solaire and lautrec, I healed and entered the boss room with 4 estus. I saw the little crocodile and my jaw litteraly dropped when I saw the boss. Lautrec and solaire practically downed it to one third of its health but then they died to that stomp attack I attacked its tail cause I thought it was safer but I got incredibly lucky and I cut of its tail with my claymore and I gave the final blow, I was amazed how I survived that with half health. I finally found where I came from and went and bought a purge stone and took a break. At this point in the game my friend told me about a shortcut through the valley of the drakes to blightown and my experience with the area was pretty smooth then again I took a shortcut, I proceeded to smash quelaag with mildred and laughed at how easy it was the game guickly proceeded to wreck me, I saw it the ceaseless discharge I didn't know what to do of it, I saw some loot I took it and he was angry and I died. It took me 10 tries to beat him with 10 estus. After that I went down to the lava lake and saw two capra demons just chilling I went back thinking I am not ready. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 17 Nov 2019 01:30 PM PST After 30 hours of playing the first dark souls I find ally completed it. This is 30 in game hours just so we are clear too. Learning how to play dark souls was wierd and fun partially because it was my first solo game. My friend who's completed all 3 told me where to go most of the time, so I felt like I was cheating. I did almost all the optional bosses and all the mandatory bosses of course. The hardest boss for me was probably Bed of Chaos. It was just super hard after I got the lights or whatever on each side cause i couldnt get through to the middle. That took me around an hour to beat and it was just annoying. The easiest boss by far was pinwheel but I'm pretty sure everyone in here already knows that After I had all the lord souls and was ready for Gwyn my friend told me to go try and do the dlcs first so i killed Atoris and gave up. Fighting Gwyn was by far very easy being able to parry him with my black knight great sword. I guess I should also mention I went with a warrior class and sword and shield. [link] [comments] |
Just started Dark Souls 1. I want to be a pyromancer but idk what attributes to level up. Posted: 17 Nov 2019 01:27 PM PST So I want to be a fire blasting pyromancer, but I saw that your attributes dont actually affect your fire spells, so what stats should I focus on leveling up instead? Or is being a pyro just not a good idea [link] [comments] |
Is this still my first play through??? Posted: 17 Nov 2019 02:13 PM PST This is more about comparing how long I've taken to reach anor londo The first time i ever played darksouls (the xbox 360 version on my xbox one) it took me more or less 60 hours to get to anor londo, but i lost that fucking save to corruption for rage quitting too much. My second time round (my current xbox save) took me about 30 hours but i stopped playing that one ( i did get a LOT farther than anor londo), now I'm playing the remastered version on the switch and it took me less than 9hours Q1: was that a good advancement on my "gud" ness? Q2: is it still my first play through??? [link] [comments] |
How do i beat orienstien and smough Posted: 17 Nov 2019 10:24 AM PST |
Posted: 17 Nov 2019 09:55 PM PST So something grew on my head today. I died and it doesn't go away... Still on my first playthrough of this game but have 2 characters at the same place through the game (Fire area). This happened to just one character soo what's happening. I'd post a pic but the subreddit doesn't allow it I think. ps: I am streaming this playthrough so feel free to join and give hints so I don't do stupid things! (Well I will anyways but still) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 17 Nov 2019 01:07 PM PST Can somebody tell me tips to parry humanoid enemies. [link] [comments] |
How to get transferred +15 weapons, +5 lightning/chaos etc. The easy way (No ember required) Posted: 17 Nov 2019 01:47 PM PST You don't actually need to have a +15 weapon like many people suggest If you have any black knight weapon (supposedly any twinkling titanite upgrade weapon, not sure though because I've only tried this with bk weapons) So first on your new build get any upgraded +5 weapon, give your buddy the bk weapon and then get him to drop it you(and some twinkling titanite), you can now pick that up, upgrade bk weapon to +5 weapon and you can pick up any +15 or upgraded boss weapon , enjoy (: [link] [comments] |
