Listening to majula theme to go to sleep Posted: 12 Nov 2019 05:42 AM PST So I usually use the theme to go to sleep but it just doesn't sound as good on a YouTube video so I opened DS2 SOTFS and I stand next to the sign telling me how many people have died world wide and i'm thinking its an old game its 5:30 in the morning pacific standard time no way i'll see people from another world, and bam someone appears right next to me doing the same exact thing no weapons or shields equipped just standing and staring at the sun set, very peaceful. do some people do what i'm doing a lot cause I just think it sounds better from the actual game lol. My long awaited return to Drangleic Posted: 11 Nov 2019 05:59 PM PST So. Dark Souls 2 SoTFS was my true inaugural voyage into Souls. That was some 4yrs ago. I had tried, tried and failed DS1. But with DS2? I found my calling. I put over 450hrs in across several characters. I farmed the giants. I PvP'd at IKB, I did the poison butterfly thing... DS2 WAS MY JAM. I got confident. I went back and played DS1 and decimated it. I awaited the release of DS3 and than I played it multiple times... I tried Bloodborne and... was not a fan. Sorry, the aesthetic and the everything else threw me... not my cup of tea. Than something happened... other games just were not as good... assassins creed, shadow of mordor... dare I even lump in Skyrim? Nothing seemed to fulfill me as it simply wasn't a challenge. I always maintained DS2 was my fave... Well somewhere in that time line I swapped over to XB1. The community wasn't as large. Life got busy... I played other games... But this past week at a pawn shop I saw DS2 SoTFS for 10$ for XB1... I bought it and threw the disk in... ready to start a new character and relive some nostalgia... What I discovered is how much I missed Drangelic. How much I missed Majula. The handmaids... the world... little things like life gems and pharaohs lock stones... I have fallen head over heels all over again. I am doing my first sorcery build for DS2 (Pyro, DeX, Str, Str/fth, Hex in the past) and I am loving every moment. [link] [comments] |
Dead Games Society: Dark Souls II - Scholar of the First Sin Posted: 12 Nov 2019 07:02 AM PST Hey guys, I recently did a video on our favourite Dark Souls and I really think a lot of people here will enjoy what I have to say about it. Any fans of Ross Scott will especially enjoy the format I made the video in, as I journey through Drangleic from start to finish. Any criticisms are welcomed and appreciated and I hope you enjoy the video! [link] [comments] |
Can anyone explain the lore behind the giants, the memories, and what they have to do with Vendrick? Posted: 11 Nov 2019 09:33 PM PST I guess most specifically the battles you see occurring when you enter the memories, and why having giant souls in your inventory lowers Vendrick's defense? Road to Rank 3 in Brotherhood of Blood as a Noob in 2019 Posted: 12 Nov 2019 05:48 AM PST So, I'm still pretty new to ds2 (about 100-150h), especially ds2 pvp (about 50-100h), but I figured I'd set a challenge for myself: reach rank 3 in BoB and get that badass rank 2 aura. I've done a ton of pvp in ds1 & 3 but in 2, my experience amounts to a few hundred invasions, i.e. pvp easy mode. I'm staying at SL 150 because it's the tryhard meta, because I don't want too many advantages, and because I like invading at this level/SM, so I better get used to this character. I did a few hours of arena today and was very happy to find that it's still very active. Waiting times averaged to about the same as ds3 arena, surprisingly enough, even though ds3 regularly has 10 x more players at any given time. I only ran to one problem: at certain hours, i constantly ran into Chinese players and unlike in ds3, the connections weren't merely very latent, they were unplayable. I'd be literally on the other side of the arena and get backstabbed, I'd get up, run to the other guy, backstab him without doing any dmg, he'd roll away, kill me by hitting the air 50 feet away from me, and as I'm fading from the arena, he gets backstabbed by my ghost etc. Total pandemonium. After 5 such fights (all from China), I gave up and decided to try again later. It seems when the connections are bad, they're really bad, much worse than the worst I've had in ds3. At first I thought they were hackers lol. Luckily today I didn't run into a single player like that. About 95% of the connections were excellent (felt almost like fighting NPC invaders) and only a few were so-so. Obviously none of this is the fault of the Chinese players btw; it's 100% Fromsoft's fault for not allowing us to choose which regions we want to match with/exclude, like all proper modern online games. As for the actual matches, I quickly made two observations: 1) most of the players were more experienced than I (almost 50% had rank 1 or 2 aura). 2) around 80-90% were higher SL (judging by the amount of hp, stamina, their armor, weapons, miracles, pyros, hexes, and sorceries they were using etc), and about half of those were stacking every advantage possible from Jester's chest to Engraved gauntlets to body and weapon buffs to Homing Soul Mass, Scraps of Life, Soothing Sunlight/Great Heal/Great Heal Excerpt, several stacks of Forbidden Sun etc. I even ran into a guy who had the Bright Bug effect on even though you can't use Bright Bugs in the arena, so either he turned on the effect via Cheat Engine or the devs were morons and made it possible to use a BB before entering the arena and have the effect stay on once the fight starts. I didn't test it so I'm not sure but I'm assuming CE since surely Fromsoft isn't that incompetent. Right? For the first hour, I'd estimate I lost roughly 70% of my duels. Gradually over the 2nd hour, it shifted to about 50/50, and by the 3rd and last hour, I won a bit more than half, maybe 60%. I don't know if I was improving or my opponents were getting worse, but I was facing a lot of the same people over and over again, so at least I wasn't suddenly getting random noobs. I probably fought 30 or so different players altogether. The toughest were the high SL dudes who had a ton of sorceries, hexes, miracles, spell buffs, body buffs, who wore the heaviest, tankiest, poisiest armor, had a ton of health and stamina etc. One dude swung his power stanced greatswords 6 times in a row lol. I have 20/40 Str/Dex and a +10 Longsword. While I do decent dmg against other players within my SM bracket, against the high SL players I hit like a wet tissue. A 2H R2 would take maybe 5% of their hp and many of them had heals too. Naturally I backstabbed their heals, but against miracles like Soothing Sunlight (which seems to heal 100%), even a backstab isn't much of a punish, at least coming from my dinky Longsword. Maybe I should start to carry a Dark Thief's Dagger or something. It's not exactly Raw Malformed Skull dmg but at least it'd be a bit better for crits than the Longsword which mostly just tickles them. I'm pretty happy that I did beat a few of them, and a few of the better ones I beat maybe once or twice (and lost like 10 times each lol). Either way, I figured if I can eventually beat players like that with this build/weapon, I shouldn't have much to worry about. I plan to mainly just rely on the Longsword because it's good enough, fun to use, and let's me focus on the essentials, i.e. spacing and timing. I'm already starting to catch rolls pretty consistently, so that's something. I probably won't be able to properly punish the heals of high SL players with any weapon since nothing my build can use seems to dish out enough dmg but I guess I just need to somehow 1) be aggressive enough that I can interrupt the casting before the heal registers, 2) have enough stamina to attack and dodge their attacks which they dish out with a lot more stamina than I have, 3) dodge well enough to survive long enough to whittle them down little by little. As of now, I'm far from such perfection, but hey, it's a goal. Anyway, such were my adventures as a pvp noob in the BoB arena in 2019. I'm not counting my wins/losses because I'll probably keep losing at least as much as I win, so the rank points won't be racking up anytime soon, but I'll get the auras when I get them. Hopefully it won't take too long but considering how much more experienced most of my opponents are + how much stronger many of their builds are, it's definitely an uphill battle. Still a ton of fun, though. I'll post an update once I reach rank 1 and get my very first aura. GGs to all I fought today! P. S. Once I get the aura, can I lose it if I lose too much or leave the covenant/join another one? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 12 Nov 2019 12:45 PM PST Hey all I've played through DS 1 and 3, and really want some new souls content. I picked up DS 2 SOTFS a while back on sale, and haven't made it very far. I feel like I'm trash at it? Anyway, could anyone help me build super OP early on so I can actually enjoy the game? I want to play it but it's just so abrasive. Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 12 Nov 2019 02:28 AM PST I'll start by giving a bit of background about myself. This is the first Souls game I played and I'm not much of a gamer. So when I first started the game, you can imagine how frustrated I was. I mean the learning curve for the game was insane. So by the time I made it to the first boss, I thought I'd be screwed, but surprisingly, I didn't find it that difficult and I managed to defeat it after a couple of tries (I think it took me 3 or 4 tries) which made me think that the boss fights aren't all that difficult. That's until I came across the Pursuer. Jesus Christ, I've never fought a boss that difficult until that point in my life and it took me 55 tries to defeat the boss. However the Pursuer was the boss that helped me truly get a hang of the game and the rest of the game went smoothly or as smoothly as you'd expect from a Souls game. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 12 Nov 2019 11:07 AM PST Hi, this topic is a list of reviews related to the game Dark Souls 2, which I finished two weeks ago (DLC included). I didn't like playing this game because of the poor quality of these points that I mentioned, maybe the only good part of this game for me was the Old Iron King DLC. The intention of this topic and to know the strengths of Dark Souls 2, basically the reason why you like this game, is totally open also to the discussion of some points that I mentioned.

Most Active SM and location for Sunbro Posted: 12 Nov 2019 10:27 AM PST I'm looking to pick up sunlight medals on my current character and want to do it via co-op instead of farming falconers. Where should I be in terms of location and soul memory? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 12 Nov 2019 09:34 AM PST anyone playing this // is there a dark souls mod sub i should use instead? i've only just began but it is terrific, genuinely challenging to me thus far, really helped me identify crutches i've relied on without realizing [link] [comments] |
Posted: 12 Nov 2019 07:42 AM PST I've had DS the trilogy on my pc for a long time, but never got into it. I wasn't much used to a controller, and the difficulty was, well, what it was. I was happy i got out of the asylum, let alone figure of what to do then. I dropped the souls game and were back to keyboard controlled games, only using the controller for platformgames, metroidvania and the like. I later got a switch, and thought maybe if i played in the living room, i could focus better on this game. I don't know if it was the fact that i tried years later, or that i played i played it on the switch, but DS1 went well. I feel in love with it, in fact. It took me a long time, of course. Maybe 3 months before i killed Gwynn for the first time. But then i wanted to continue with DS2. I still had the trilogy on my pc. So i went on and started DS2, there. Alas, the game is as amazing as DS1, but somehow i still struggle with the fact that I'm playing it on a pc. Smaller screen, desk chair, pc-controller. All the little things adding up that make playing it on the pc less enjoyable than it did in the switch. I've always hoped ds2 would come to switch, I'd definitely get it. But rumours seems few and inbetween at best. Most 'confirmations' seem to stem from 2018. Do you guys think i should give up hope for seeing the rest of the trilogy on the switch? I for one don't care about the quality. I see a lot of complaints about the graphics and audio of DSrem. on the switch, which i just don't buy. It either is bad and i am bad, or its amazing and people are just too nitpicky. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 11 Nov 2019 07:05 PM PST Does Dark Souls 2 have too many bad maps? I refer to large maps, such as Forest of Fallen Giants, among others. Today I saw some people complain about the Dark Souls 2 maps, which are disheartening and not inspiring to explore. I do not understand the criticism, sometimes it seems that they argue to criticize the game, but I wanted to know your opinion. [link] [comments] |
Another "just beat Fume" thread Posted: 11 Nov 2019 08:48 PM PST Yeah, it felt good. I respec'd just to get 60 STR, then got naked and +10'd the Great Mace + gold pine. Got 820 damage out of a 2H R2 attack. Advice: No summons! His defence goes ballistic with summons. Get naked and stick close to him. Just roll round his attacks. Just hit once and move. Strike damage is OP in this game so may as well use it if you got it. Don't get intimidated by him.. his attacks are telegraphed well enough that you can dodge em. [link] [comments] |
Can't play co-op with any of my friends. Posted: 11 Nov 2019 07:26 PM PST Before I start here, I'm not softbanned, I can see other summon signs, just not my friends. I've been trying to play this game co-op with my friends for years and their summon signs just don't appear at all. We make sure we have the EXACT same soul memory. (we voice chatted and make sure we killed the exact same enemies the exact same amount of times), we have cross-region play on, we even tried using the name engraved ring. They just don't appear. Anyone have any ideas? I really want to play with my buds but nothing works! (I also play this on steam if that helps) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 11 Nov 2019 11:33 PM PST These little pumpkins are fantastic and I love them, but I'm glad they didn't come back for ds3, not only would the linear fashion of ds3 not work quite as well (accidentally making a required boss too strong on subsequent play throughs) but it also gives ds2 something to set it apart from the rest and I like that [link] [comments] |
Posted: 11 Nov 2019 06:58 PM PST For example, the difference in combat style between DS3 and DSR is massive (roll-dodge vs. tank-n-spank), upgrading weapons, pathing, can't teleport between bonfires, etc. [link] [comments] |
[Salt] Gyrm Greathammer not dropping Posted: 11 Nov 2019 05:25 PM PST I've farmed the Gyrm in the Rat Covenant area so many times I lost count. I've gained about 60k soul with the silver serpent ring +0 on. I have all my available item discovery gear (which admittedly is just the merchant hat), and still failed to find a single Gyrm Greathammer. Instead I've picked up multiple copies of every armor piece, multiple magic and mundane stones, titanite chunks, and even a gyrm greataxe. Am I doing something wrong? Edit: I went and grabbed the Watchdragon Parma, and got the hammer on my second run through the upper ring. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 11 Nov 2019 11:20 PM PST I have competed DS3 on multiple characters ng+ as well but I've found on ds2 it's a lot harder to follow. I've just got to a dead end and can't find where to find the new area. I have killed the big spider boss with two heads and can't find where to go next. Some advice would be appreciated [link] [comments] |
Faith only no shield pyromancer is by far the most fun I've had so far. Posted: 11 Nov 2019 03:19 PM PST 200 sl Vgr 23 End 20 Vit 21 Atn 60 Str20 Dex 33 Adp15 Int 18 For sanctum sheild Fth 51 Rocking the saint set plus jester gloves and judgement rights for fashion souls.
