New Player Ornstein and Smough thoughts...

    Posted: 09 Oct 2019 01:14 AM PDT

After enjoying the fuck out of Anor Londo and having pretty much zero issue with the fabled Archers (I mean, come on...they weren't even slightly bothersome) I'm now in the process of fighting Ornstein and Smough.

These guys are certainly challenging, however, as a new player who's probably on his 7th or 8th attempt I'm having great fun 'failing'. I mean, surely the fun of dark souls is sussing out your enemy; planning your attack? I've been going in with zero aggression and experimenting with seeing how long I can avoid them by rolling, by dodging, by running. Seeing how effective locking on is as opposed to not. Little studies to figure these guys out.

I'm not frustrated. I'm loving the hell outta going in and learning their patterns before dying. And each encounter I learn slightly more. I don't get it when people get all wound up with bosses. You need to be methodical and LEARN from your failures. That's where the real fun is! (P.S. any tips would be appreciated)

    Tips for a Sekiro Convert

    Posted: 09 Oct 2019 12:49 AM PDT

    Greetings!

Sekiro was my first modern From Software game and I loved it. Finishing up my last run of it. NG+7 with Demon Bell and no Kuro's charm. It is not often that I invest that much time into a game anymore. But it has left me wanting.. wanting a challenge, and just another great experience, and I'm hoping Dark Souls can give it to me. From what I've seen I feel that I grasp the combat, all dodge based, which is good because until I learned Sekiro's combat and defense mechanics, I got by with dodging enemies altogether for quite a bit.

Knowing that I came from Sekiro and that.i enjoyed that face paced intense combat, is there anything I should keep in mind as I continue in starting my Dark Souls journey?

So I’ve been playing Dark Souls since about March and I’ve only gotten to beating the Capra Demon. Is there any tips I should know before progressing onward?

Friend started playing Dark Souls 1 (Proud gushing)

    Posted: 08 Oct 2019 12:36 PM PDT

My friend considers herself a very casual gamer, and I suppose we both are. I have played DS on and off for years but never beaten the game (lol).

She's not playing remastered. She's playing Prepare to Die unmodded on steam. Gwynn help her.

We were on a call on discord when she first met Solaire, and she, like everyone before her, fell in love instantly. I quote, "he reawakened my bi side." I did not expect her to continue playing the game given how she regularly voiced her frustration, but it's been less than a week and she's in Anor Londo. She started as a pyromancer, plowed through Blight Town with the regular amount of deaths and frustration, cut down Quelagg, and met the Fair Lady.

Friend did not want any spoilers, but she said to me after learning that Laurentius could die that "If anything happens to Solaire I will put this game down and never touch it again." Not wanting her to quit over the typical first playthrough horror, I gently guided her with "The big pretty spider lady gives you pyromancy, and giving her humanity helps ease her pain." She quickly joined the Chaos Servants.

It was, unfortunately, that big lady affection that doomed her to spoilers. While trying to find how to get the old witches ring, she found how to get the sunlight maggot and then-- oh no.

Luckily, her determination to make the Fair Lady feel better, she would have saved Solaire regardless.

Meanwhile I just love Solaire, saw spoilers, and went through the Chaos Servants just to save my sunbro. I just finished off Seath, and I suspect she'll be surpassing me very soon.

    Obsidian Greatsword

    Posted: 08 Oct 2019 10:23 PM PDT

Okay so I got the Obsidian Greatsword and it's +2 right now. The base damage right now is 384. I also have the black knight sword which is +5 and has a base damage of 330. With a regular slash from the Black Knight Sword it does about 439. Other times it does more. But with a regular slash from the Obsidian Greatsword, it does about half of that, even though it has a higher base damage. I've tested this with different enemies and I've tried looking around the internet to see if anyone was experiencing the same thing as me but all I could find is about how great it is. Am I missing something here at all?

TL;DR Obsidian Greatsword+2 isn't doing more damage than my Black Knight Sword +5 even though it has a higher base damage.

All achievement speed runs, do they run latest patch?

    Posted: 09 Oct 2019 12:42 AM PDT

    Hey sub

I've been watching Elajjaz do the all achievement speed run on PC. I'm half way through on Remaster PS4 normal run, but would like to grab the Plat on PS3 version some time.

I'm just wondering if the bottomless box glitch works to get all trophies in one play through? If it does what patch are they running on?

    Thanks for any help :)

    PS4 Full series playthrough

    Posted: 08 Oct 2019 11:21 AM PDT

Heyo, after a sufficiently long break from the series I'm getting the itch to come back to it, I've got all 3 for ps4, was wondering if there's anyone out there who also has the trilogy and would be interested in doing a full playthrough of all of them together?

I'm not super competitive and I like toying with unorthodox builds and gear a lot, this would be more for fun, making a couple of characters to call our own from beginning to end and experiencing their stories along the way.

How alive is the community in PS4?

    Posted: 08 Oct 2019 06:45 PM PDT

I'm getting bored of DS3, and I always end up remembering my DS days back in Xbox360.

So I'm starting to think that I will buy DS Remastered.

    3 questions:

How alive is DS in PS4? (invasion, summons)

    Are the DLC included?

How remastered is the game? (stupid question so you can convince me to buy it, lol)

I know I'm late to the party, but I hope there arr still people playing.

[PC][DSR] Without modding, is there a way to have PS button icons AND vibration while using a PS4 controller?

    Posted: 08 Oct 2019 02:37 PM PDT

I spent a few hours trying to get Dark Souls Remastered to work flawlessly with a PS4 controller, the same way you would play on a PS4, with PS button prompts and vibration. I found out that if you don't use any 3rd party programs and don't use Big Picture Mode in Steam, a PS4 controller will work and the game will even have PS button icons! However, vibration doesn't work. The only way I found to get vibration working (and I don't know if that vibration was accurate) is to use DS4Windows, but the downside to that is that the program makes your PC think that your PS4 controller is actually an XBOX controller, and because of that, the game has XBOX button prompts. Has anyone actually found a way to get both or does vibration just doesn't work for a PS4 controller?

Also, those who use an XBOX One controller. Does vibration work? I don't own one so I can't test it myself. Thanks for reading.

    Bandit build suggestion

    Posted: 08 Oct 2019 08:04 PM PDT

Hi guys, new player here. I just started the game and finished beat the Taurus deamon. Now I was wondering how to invest my souls. Is this a good build in your opinions: 50 Vitality, 40 Endurance, 40 Strength, 40 Dexterity. Should I invest in any other categories or are those enough? Thanks for the help, feeling a little bit lost right now. Praise the sun!

Are there any inspiring Dark Souls quotes?

    Posted: 08 Oct 2019 04:46 AM PDT

I remember in one of the Souls games there was a quote somewhere about death and rising again.

I can't for the life of me find it online. Does this ring a bell with anyone else? Or, have I finally lost my marbles?

Help with Prepare to Die Edition

    Posted: 08 Oct 2019 05:22 PM PDT

I was trying to play Prepare to Die Edition because I have never played a DS game before, but when I got into the game I noticed that it felt weird. The camera controls with the mouse are so finicky, and the game gave me controller controls when telling me how to play the game instead of keyboard controls. I looked in the settings and I didn't find any way to change the camera controls, or to get it to show me the right controls. I don't own a controller I can plug into my PC, is there a way to fix my problem besides buying a controller?

What's the point of the Sunlight Maggots?

    Posted: 08 Oct 2019 04:59 PM PDT

If you leave the egg maggot thing on your head too long, it hatches and gets all weird. But what's the point of that? Does it actually do anything?

Also, what are the hotspots for PvP-ing.

EDIT: After posting this I placed a summon sign at the O&S bonfire in Anor Londo and got summoned immediately.
