Might not be as good as some of the crazy ones I've seen, but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out!

A New Undead Joins the Bonfire

    Posted: 17 Oct 2019 03:46 PM PDT

My nephew recently celebrated his eleventh birthday, and since he has a Switch, my present to him was Dark Souls.

I must say I had my doubts: he's mostly used to games like Super Mario and Kirby. But I thought "Sure, it's a little grim and really hard, but it's not super violent, and it's one of those settings I would have loved as a kid. (Still do) So hey, what the hell."

A few weeks later and his father just told me he's playing it all the time and having a great time. Looks like we have a new sun praiser.

    Second Playthrough Style

    Posted: 17 Oct 2019 07:48 PM PDT

Everywhere I've read, it seems like the vast majority of people tend to speed through the game on any playthrough after their first. This includes things like making sure to use the skeleton key to get in the back of Blighttown or dropping through the Catacombs.

Not judging that but am I the only one who plays as slow during subsequent play throughs as I did on my first? My favorite part of the series is the atmosphere and I just want to absorb it, even if it's the 6th time I'm escaping The Undead Asylum. Anyone else do that?

I just beat dark souls and don't know how to feel

    Posted: 17 Oct 2019 02:12 PM PDT

I played dark souls 3 before dark souls 1 but now that I beat the original dark souls, my feelings after completing it are different than when I beat dark souls 3. I feel like I didn't quite experience the whole game. Like something was missing. Like I was just scratching the surface on the top. Did you feel that too when you first beat it? Dark Souls 3 have me basically full satisfaction. Like I finished the entire game. But not with Dark Souls 1. I'm also kinda disappointed that ng+ starts right after linking the flame

    Marion - The Saint

    Posted: 17 Oct 2019 10:01 PM PDT

If you play DSR for the Switch for sometime you will eventually meet Marion. I read a post on Reddit when I first started this game about an invader named Marion who would constantly invade just to... help. But if you ever have opened up the book of the guilty you would know that Marion is also number 2 and has held that spot for quite sometime.

Unfortunately for me, my handful of run ins on different characters with Marion in Anor Londo proved to be actual invasions. She would kill me over and over, particularly in Onionbro room. A few times I would play cheap and Fire Tempest her while she turned a corner. But always I sensed that she wasn't a griefer. She fought honorably and when she found me always made sure to greet with a bow, wave, or hurrah. It got to the point where I looked forward to be invaded by her. She was welcome no matter how many times she came.

My last run into her though.... There I was, just finished up the Anor Londo Archers with a buddy. He had to leave and black crystaled and so onward I went. Solaire was sitting at the bonfire with a summon sign right next to him, as per usual, that grossly incandescent man. Curious, I checked the sign. There it was the dreaded name with the infamous Pyromancer clothes. I shuddered. Marion... Not invading, but white soaping. Relishing upon the fact that this could be a once and a lifetime opportunity I summoned her and some other person without lighting the bonfire.

There she was, doing exactly what the posts I read have said. I acted like a noob. Missed a few parries on a Silver Knight intentionally and after a successful Riposte she hurrahed. Her and the other guy went ahead after that first Silver Knight kill. I witnessed them gloriously one shotting everything. They were so fast that she dropped Prism Stones at different points just to lead me the way, every chest pre opened and every Mimic killed. I cruised the whole way through to O&S without a single Estus flasks taken.

Shit got real. I changed out of my Knight Armor into Chain Leggings and Knight Gauntlets at the boss fog. I think when she saw what I did she knew what was up and knew that I was pretending. We got in, some of the most perfect dodges and attack coordination occurred in that arena.

Alas, I have finally experienced this Marion. If you are out there and you are on Reddit, may you continue on. Don't you dare go Hollow.

    NG+ mod question

    Posted: 18 Oct 2019 03:55 AM PDT

Does anyone know if there's a mod that allows you to wait before going into New Game Plus after killing Gwyn, like DS2 and DS3?

Would you read/watch/listen to an adaptation of Dark Souls and its sequels?

    Posted: 17 Oct 2019 12:15 PM PDT

Dark Souls is known for the comparative obscurity of its narrative. While there's certainly a good bit of lore behind everything, it is very much a game first and a story second, with backstory and other elaboration left to item descriptions and the like. As such, how would you feel about it being adapted into a more conventional storytelling medium, be it on the page or the screen? That would mean anything printed, anything audio, or anything video.

Yeah, there have been comics set in the DS universe, but they're all original, "expanded universe" stories set in the franchise's world, expanding on the setting rather than adapting the games themselves.

The biggest hurdle would be that the player character would have to have a personality. You might be able to get around defining his/her gender and appearance, but a dead-silent protagonist who just goes around fighting things wouldn't fly in other media. The other big hurdle is that there would need to be some way of delivering the lore to the reader/viewer/listener, and the obvious solution of just having a narrator spew it out at the appropriate time would be more than a bit hamfisted.

    First character!

    Posted: 17 Oct 2019 05:36 PM PDT

I've created my first character and he's a warrior who specializes in sword and board. I have left the undead asylum and have read up the guides a small bit I think it would be more fun to throw some elemental powers in there to supplement the damage output. I however cannot decide between sorcery or pyromancy or miracles to use as well as conventional weapons. Which is more suiting and fun to use with a warrior and why? Any advice is appreciated!

    Posted: 18 Oct 2019 01:25 AM PDT

Hey. Ive been trying to stab enemies in the back where it triggers that mini animation. When I get behind an enemy and try this it just does the normal slashing.

Do I need to press anything in particular to triggers this? Im playing remastered on the switch.

Thanks in advance for any help!

    Button remapping ps4

    Posted: 17 Oct 2019 04:43 PM PDT

Is there any other optimal button remapping for the kick action? I kick sometimes but half of the time I r1 attack. I kind of don't want to mess with any of the other controls however. Anyone else have the same issue?

Is it ever really explained how Seath gains immortality through a Crystal?

    Posted: 17 Oct 2019 02:10 PM PDT

What gives solidified/crystallised soul essence the ability to make him immortal?

I understand that souls themselves seem to last forever, but how does a crystallised soul give Seath immortality when it's not even technically his soul?

If you never switch the boulder switch in sens fortress, then you never have to save him in anor londo. Does he still die at sens? I like to think he leaves sens and doesnt go hollow. Q.Q

What are dimensions of the Dark Soul map?

    Posted: 17 Oct 2019 06:21 PM PDT

As the question says, what are the dimensions of the map? What's the distance from the highest point to the lowest point/ the distance from the east-most to the west-most, etc? I've done some basic digging and haven't found anything, so I was hoping someone else knew or could point me in the right direction.
