Welcome to the weekly Dark Souls mod announcement and discussion thread!

Beware! Use of mods whilst connected to the internet can cause you to get banned from online play!

For more information, or to continue the discussion visit /r/ModSouls

Using mods (PC only!) to enhance or add new content to the Souls games is great fun! It is important, however, to understand that mods are against From's EULA/ToS, so there is a great risk of being banned when using them due to From's anti-cheat--which is deployed in most versions of the Souls games.

Versions of the games where modding is safe due to no anti-cheat:

Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition

Versions of the games where modding carries a very high risk of being banned:

    Dark Souls: Remastered

    Dark Souls II

Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin

    Dark Souls III

    Our recommendations for safe modding

*This advice is intended for first-time or relatively inexperienced modders who want to get into modding without risking a ban on their main Steam account.

    Basic Steps:

    Make a separate Steam account

Use Steam's Family Sharing feature to provide your new account with access to your main Steam account's game library.

Install games to be used with the new account in a separate directory.

Once you've found your mods be sure to read (and follow) the mod author's instructions carefully prior to installation.

Set Steam to "off line" mode.

Install the mods and perform any necessary setup.

Enjoy the fun and interesting experiences offered by mods!

Be sure to remove all file components of the mod before going back online!

    My Vanilla Ladle Run

    Posted: 07 Oct 2019 08:26 AM PDT

I'm an idiot. Plain and simple. I decided that I was going to try my hardest to make myself want to die. I was getting bored of being good, so I decided to take up the ladle. This weapon is awful, it does less damage than your fists, it has 20 durability, and does 0 damage when broken. So my idiot self decided to complete the game with it. Oh, and fists are out, because they do too much damage. Part 1: Acquiring the mundane stone. In ds2 there is an infusion called mundane, but there is little mundane about it. This infusion half's your weapons base damage and eliminates all scaling and adds a new one, which makes it scale from your lowest stat. It doesn't matter if your weapon is broken or not, because the scaling is where all your damage comes from. It is perfect, now there is one way to get one at the start of the game. The crows. So I started a new game, made my deprived character, picked the bonfire ascetic as my gift, and picked up the small smooth and silky stone. I immediately used the BF Ascetic to get 3 more Smooth and silky stones, after I picked up all the souls items in the tutorial area. I traded with snugly and got a bolt stone a raw stone and then the mundane stone. I was ecstatic, I was already having ptsd from the future restarts I was going to need to do, so I was pretty happy. But don't worry, the ladle makes up for it. Part 2: Acquiring the ladle I set out from the BF, eager to make the ogres roll of a cliff. I had forgotten one key factor, however. There is red invaders in new game plus, and the one guarding the ogres has killed me a staggering 16 times. I'd go down the pit, loose a bit of health, run to the ladder, and he'd stab me. Or I'd try to roll but his rapier would laugh at my 6 ADP. But, I was finally able to get up the ladder and he decided to poke himself off of the trees short cut, and the rest started going smoother. I only died 4 more times in this part, once to the first ogre, which rolled off the tree as I died, and 3 times to the second, who just decided to commit suicide and jump of for no reason at all. I went back to the handmaiden at claimed my ladle. Part 3: The Magic Blue Soup Since the ladle has such low durability, damage and does 0 when broken, I thought it necessary to get magic weapon to make it to the ember at iron keep. After I killed the dragon rider by making him fall to his death, (and I punched the miracle wench to her death with my broken spoon, gravity is truly the hardest hitting weapon of the game) I leveled my attunement to 10 and my intelligence to 24 to get magic weapon, and ran all the way to the mage teacher without dying. I homeward boned back, and went to made my way to the second BF, with one death due to picking up items and getting pummeled by 30 or so hollows, and decided to test out my new ladle with blue soup. And you'll never guess the staggering numbers that this thing pulls.... 14 damage per hit! That's a whole 14 better than I was doing! Never before have I been also happy to see such small numbers, but the feeling of progress is awesome. I also ran down and got the mansion key so I can respec once I get the ember for the blacksmith. Up next is to go to the huntsman's copse. Part 4: (I'll link it here)

So I was invaded in the Dragon Aerie

    Posted: 07 Oct 2019 10:39 AM PDT

Little did the invader know that I was attempting the zip line jump for that one item. I successfully land, and then sit laughing my ass off for about 5 whole minutes while I watch them run through bridges trying to figure out where I was.

They did eventually find out, after catching me gesturing since forever, and deliver the mercy kill via the bow.

    This game is amazing.

    50 invasions in 1-2h in 2019

    Posted: 07 Oct 2019 11:34 AM PDT

Another hooray for B-Team's ingenious decision to let us invade hollow players and bossless areas!

I just spent my last 50 red orbs in SotFS, all within the span of a couple hours. 95% or more were instant invasions, no need to spam the orb like in ds1 & 3, and no, I'm not exaggerating. It's crazy how much easier and faster it is to find invasions in ds2 than 3 despite the fact that 3 has roughly 10 x more players (my SM was 1.6M)

That said, while I had a blast (seriously, the game was so busy, it couldn't have been faster to find invasions if the game came out yesterday), now I'm out of red orbs.

I got 99 from a friend, so it wasn't until now that I found out you can't buy more than 5, and afaik if you want more, you must farm mobs or BoB. Are there any faster ways to get some?

If anyone here has a bunch, I can trade for them. Otherwise I guess I just gotta hit the arena and face the Havel mage monstrosities lol.

    P. S. After 1-3k hours of ds1 & 3, ds2 is ridiculously fun.

Scythes are kinda disappointing in DS2

    Posted: 06 Oct 2019 04:53 PM PDT

Like, they're cool as heck, but the maximum damage output coming from the right distance feel a little tricky to do in some situations, i wish they were normal weapons, just R1 and u do damage

    Just beat the game...

    Posted: 07 Oct 2019 09:47 AM PDT

So I just beat Dark Souls 2, I fought the Throne Watcher and Throne Defender, then fought Nashandra, sat on the throne and saw the credits roll down, I don't understand how that can be though, i thought there was still a lot of bosses to go, I was reading the wiki on the game's bosses and i haven't even fought some of the supposedly non-optional bosses, can someone explain to me what happened? I feel like i haven't really finished the main story even thought the game's already up.

I want to change my build but I need about 50 more levels (150 to 200) and the grinding is getting unbearable. What's the best way to farm? I'm assuming I should bonfire ascetic an easy boss but idk which one to do.

I think I’ve completed missed the point of the DLC’s.

    Posted: 06 Oct 2019 08:09 PM PDT

The DLC's are awesome don't get me wrong, the final bosses just kept getting better as it went. But story wise, WHY did I just go get this stuff? What was even the point? I go, I get three crowns... and then what? I get a really cool history lesson from Vendrick but what did I just do? I don't understand.

    Good low Str crit weapons?

    Posted: 07 Oct 2019 06:49 AM PDT

What are some decent non-strength -based, preferably light crit weapons? For both pve and pvp. Standard dagger? Rapier? Something else? Which infusion?

Anything similar to DS1's Dark Silver Tracer, Chaos Bandit's Knife, Chaos Dagger, Chaos Rapier etc, or DS3's Chaos Dagger, Chaos Rapier, Lightning Mail Breaker etc?

What order would you rank the dlc from favourite to least favourite?

    Posted: 06 Oct 2019 08:24 PM PDT

    For me:

1)Crown of the Old Iron King

Loved everything about this dlc especially the atmosphere and environment. Loved the enemies and bosses.

    2)Crown of the Ivory King

Not really a fan of snow areas in games for some reason. From my first experience with snow levels when I played donkey Kong country 1 on the Super Nintendo when I was a kid to now I've never enjoyed them, the bosses were kinda lame except the last boss but the enemies were pretty cool.

    3)Crown of the Sunken King

I hated this dlc it's not only my least favourite dlc but my top 3 least favourite areas in the entire game the only saving grace were the bosses except the three man team one.

Just my opinion, what about you guys?

    Offine Mode

    Posted: 07 Oct 2019 10:40 AM PDT

Is just so fuckn stupid that there is no fuckn simple option to turn offline, don't you think?you seems to be forced to disconnect your connection by WIndows settings. I have encountered many walls or a lever with a message adherent them, and i wanted to go offline to check if the message were put to troll people in order to not be able to press A/X, and i can't do it bcause fromsoft can't make a simple fuckn option to turn offline.. is just so stupid.......
