    Dark Souls saved my life

    Posted: 19 Feb 2021 08:59 AM PST

I almost died, but Dark Souls taught me to roll out of danger. My girlfriend was smothering me while we were sleeping, I couldn't breathe. So I rolled over.

    I'm still alive.

    Thank you Dark Souls.

I completed a soul level one run in Dark Souls Remastered. Here's what I learned:

It's hard, and it sucks. Don't do it.

Did "No leveling up & starting gear only" run for every class and ranked all classes by their starting equipment

    Posted: 19 Feb 2021 03:50 PM PST

This was pretty fun challenge run series! Albeit it got little bit repetitive over time, I had a great time overall! Here's the complete rules (aside from obvious ones in the name of the post):

    • Any rings except FaP and RTSR are allowed

    • You can unequip and re-equip secondary weapons (shields, talisman, catalyst, bow) as you want. Armor and primary weapon are permanent

    • No unintended skips or duping (Dragon Scales being an exception, because fuck farming Drakes for hours)

    • All bosses must die

    • You can use any source of light in Tomb of the Giants, this is the only case that overrides "starting gear only" rule

    • You can get multiple copies of starting weapon(s) with different infusions. But only one can be equipped at a time

    • Spells are not restricted - you can attune any spell you want and use it as long as your character starts with required stats and an item to cast it of course

Now, here's the ranking for each class under this ruleset - ranked from easiest (0) to hardest (10):

    • Pyromancer (2 / 10) - try to kill them with melee and if it doesn't work, blast them with pyro. Hand Axe is pretty underrated SL1 weapon imo.

    • Deprived (2.5 / 10) - armorless playthroughs always remind me that Bloodbite and Poisonbite rings exist lol. Anyway, just get Dragon Torso Stone after unlocking Sen's and proceed to wreck everything with your fists!

    • Wanderer, Bandit, Cleric (3 / 10) - still very easy melee classes, their starting weapons are beasts even with split damage. (Cleric can technically use spells, but at starting stats you can't really use any direct offense miracles, best you can do is knock enemies off the map with Force)

    • Warrior & Hunter (4.5 / 10) - pretty average classes to play with, I love Longsword / Shortsword 2H R2 attacks though. As a Hunter, I used the bow way less than I expected

    • Knight (7 / 10) - This is where some kind of difficulty started to finally kick in. First few minutes with fatroll (until I got Havel Ring) were painful... midroll is viable, but still kinda sucks at low level - at least in main game. It sucks totally at low level when fighting DLC bosses. And I couldn't get Chaos Ember early, which sucked as well. This whole run just sucked and I loved it. At least I had relatively good damage output - no more of that from now on

    • Sorcerer (8 /10) - I expected this one to be by far the hardest one, since the stats and gear seem to be even worse than Thief's. Thankfully, I overlooked some things. Sorcery really helped in early game - Great Soul Arrows with Bellowing Ring deal semi-decent damage even in Blighttown. Dagger is ridiculously fast - despite its subpar AR, you can hit enemy so many times in such a short amount of time that I realized overall damage output won't be as terrible as I thought - it was still super low, but tiny bit bigger than I anticipated. On top of that, R2 is a thrust attack, which really helped with DLC bosses. Still though, bossfights took ages and you now had to be very careful, as a lot of enemies since Anor Londo can nearly (or literally) one-shot you at 8 VIT.

    • Thief (9.5 /10) - welcome to parry (or bleed) the world challenge, as these are your only ways to deal good damage! No cheaping out early game with sorceries or any viable Leo Ring boosts against tankier bosses. DLC fights took forever and there was quite a few one-shots as well. Oh, and I almost lost my sanity to Four Kings!

So what do you guys think? Was the list more or less like you expected or did you get surprised by some class(es) being ranked as much easier / harder than you thought?

Dark souls is all about standing by giant butts and stabbing butts. Change my mind.

    Posted: 19 Feb 2021 09:38 AM PST

The safest place is behind the enemy's butt in almost every fight. It's a butt stabbing sim.

    Glitched character ruined game?

    Posted: 19 Feb 2021 07:37 PM PST

I was about to fight Orstein and Smough and some red phantom came in wearing black knight armor, he just glitched through me, back stabbed me and broke all of my armor and everything I was wearing and cursed me, I then sat in the death screen for about five minutes and the humanity restored screen popped up about 25 times. I then finally died and re spawned and now that I am cursed and lost everything I can't kill anything as I die in one hit since I was going a glass cannon sorcerer build. I don't have any purging stones and I can't go forward because there is no way I can beat the boss like this. I can't go back either can I? To get purging stones from Oswald.

Also losing the hundred thousand souls just adds to the sting, not really that big of deal but I can't even repair anything to move forward.

Is there anything I can do? This guy basically just ruined the game for me I don't even want to finish this play through anymore. I can't even kill the silver knights that i was farming for souls :(

Just wanted to rant, thanks for listening. Will probably do a sorcerer build in dark souls 3 and ditch this playthrough. Unless anyone has any advice?

    My Dark Souls love story

    Posted: 19 Feb 2021 05:34 PM PST

I almost never post stuff on reddit, but I wanted to share the story of how I found out and fall in love with this awesome game because, why not, right? so here it goes (sry the bad english).

This goes back to late 2012, I was 22 and was finishing collage so I decided it was a good time to get my first real job. It was nothing fancy but the payroll was good enough to allow to make myself a few treats, which back there was buying a ps3 (my folks never liked me and my brothers to play videogames so they never bought us any, the last console I had was a Nintendo 64 when I was a kid thanks to my big brother), so I saved up some money and got mine. When I first got it I was in the moon, so happy to have my very own console!. I used to live with some college friends so I put it in our living room so we could all had the chance to play with it.

The real deal tho, was what to play. I didn't have an international credit card back then to buy online games, and the brand new ones were too expensive for me (due to my country taxes a USD 60 game costs USD 120 here). So I decided to look up for stores where I could get older games at a reasonable price, which I did. The store was like 30 min buss from my home (on a kinda shady neighborhood) and had a bunch of older games at a very reasonable prices so I adventured and went there.

When I got there I saw store racks full of ps3 games and a lot pirat ones as well for pc, ps2 and who knows what else lol. So I started to look up and picked my first 2 games, Final Fantasy XIII and FEAR 3 (to play with the boys), but I had some extra money, felt greedy, so I decided to get just one more. Looking through the different games I saw this case with a knight on it and the name "Dark Souls", it immediately caught my attention (I'm a huge RPG fan), took it and looked at it, "PREPARE TO DIE" I remember reading from the back side of the case and thinking that was interesting so I got it. Oh boy.

The very first minutes of gameplay I remember thinking that the game was "OK", but after I fought the Stray Demon and arrived to the firelink shrine I was already mesmerized. The music, the level design, the NPCs, lore, INVASIONS and player summons, I was blown away by the game. Spent the next MONTHS I believe playing Dark Souls almost non stop on my spear time, I remember even letting my character all night just standing in Darkroot garden while being part of the Forest Hunters covenant just to farm some few souls if I was lucky enough while I was sleeping. It was a one way path.

No longer after that I was able to get a used copy of Demon Souls, just to have te pleasure of playing another masterpiece IMO from Miyazaki-sama, and the rest as u can imagine is history. DS2, Bloodborne, DS3, Sekiro and now hollowing for Elden Ring.

So that's it, that was how by luck I guess I ended up getting this masterpiece that gave me hours and hours of fun. But now I would like to know what's your history, how u ended up playing this game and what impact made in you? :)

TL;DR: I fucking love this game

Do you have false beliefs in game that you use even though you know they might not work.

    Posted: 20 Feb 2021 02:43 AM PST

    Hello friends,

As a kid I played Pokemon and when a legendary Pokemon was really hard to catch. I would keep the B button pressed, close my eyes or other weird stuff, believing the Pokemon would be easier to capture. I was wondering if you have such things within Dark Souls.

Is this interview with Miyazaki real?

    Posted: 20 Feb 2021 01:31 AM PST

So there is this interview with Miyazaki with a game show called "Game no Shokutaku" and there are a few English transcripts floating around, and there is this link to part of the podcast. Though there is no real proof that it's actually Miyazaki in the interview and can't find any real record of "Game no Shokutaku" existing, which might have to do with it being Japanese. But I've come up to a point where someone told me the interview was fake and when investigating it does appear so off the bat. Anyone have any proof it's real?

What are some good equipment for my character?

    Posted: 19 Feb 2021 07:43 PM PST

    Hello!

I'm new to Dark Souls and I recently beet the gargoyle boss, I'm playing as a pyro/strength build with a +5 claymore, Baldur shield and a +3 pyro glove.

I'm wondering, are there weapons or armor that I'm missing out on that can improve my character, or, are there items that I should be looking forward to getting.

    Thanks!

    ANDRE IS DEAD

    Posted: 19 Feb 2021 08:04 PM PST

So I really fucked up earlier in game by killing Andre. I'm an idiot. I can't ascend my weapons to +6 and I am really wanting the sword of artorius but for that I need a +10 broken straight sword. Would anyone be willing to trade with me. I'd pay all the titanite required and give you a good weapon or armour. I'm on PS4 btw.

    Finally beat Darksouls

    Posted: 19 Feb 2021 05:05 PM PST

I finally did it. First started when DS came out. Played until I was in the depths, became cursed and stuck down there. Put the game down for the better part of a decade, decided to pick it back up and I am happy I did. It was great. Looking forward to ng+ and new builds.

    Cheers

Question about Dark Souls (and I guess the trio sly as a whole)

    Posted: 19 Feb 2021 08:25 PM PST

How similar is it to Bloodborne? I know they're both FromSoftware games and after finally beating Bloodborne I understand that the Souls series has a high difficulty, but apart from that I really don't know much about the Souls series. How similar are the games (not lore wise but more gameplay mechanics)? What makes them different?

I'm definitely thinking about getting into Dark Souls after the immense amount of fun I had with Bloodborne.

    DS1 - Lv.34 - PS4 - Quelags Bell Bonfire

    🔥

I've played every Souls game besides the first ds really, and I thought I'd do my first true Pyro build. But, alas, it's been halted due to the haha fuk you nature of some parts of these games.

When I got to egg sack Pyro dude, he wouldn't talk to me so I thought he was an enemy blocking the path; I killed him. (he just sells poison, whatever, didn't want them anyway)

I told Laurentiis about the daughters of chaos. Oh, look, he's hollow and attacking.

Meanwhile, I'm at +6 Pyro flame with only third Pyro friend left, Quelana, not spawnable till you have +10 flame. On my Pyro character.

    🔥

-PSN id: xxRainx -Summon password: Seadra

    🔥

So, could someone help me out? 😔❤️ lmk~~~~~

    Thank you bunches!! 💙💗🙏💜❤️

    Is Solaire gay?

    Posted: 19 Feb 2021 07:28 AM PST

Not that I have anything wrong with it, I have a boyfriend myself.

Im replaying the game with a male character and found that Solaire is a little on the flirtatious side of friendly? Or perhaps I'm looking too far into it.

I finished Dark Souls for the first time

    Posted: 19 Feb 2021 01:53 PM PST

Here's a post I made right after ringing the second bell explaining my journey up through that point: https://www.reddit.com/r/darksouls/comments/lm5t0h/i_just_started_playing_dark_souls_for_the_first/

I finally beat the game! The main struggles I had after the two bells were O&S, New Londo, and the Tomb of the Giants, the last of which being my new least favorite part of the game. Interestingly enough, I beat Gwyn first try! Parrying the hell out of Havel certainly gave me some good practice.

I felt such a strong sense of relief and satisfaction seeing the credits, what a great game. I can't decide between Duke's Archives or Anor Londo on which is my favorite section, looking forward to playing more of the game in the future to have a clearer answer!

Out of curiosity, what was everyone's favorite and least favorite sections/bosses after their first playthrough? To answer the latter, it's Capra Demon for me with Bed of Chaos not too far behind for least favorites. My favorite boss was O&S by a mile.

    Weird Bug

    Posted: 19 Feb 2021 02:38 PM PST

    Hi there!
I was messing around playing through Darksouls remastered on the PC, progressed through the game up to gargoyles normally and turned human for the fight in order to summon Solaire. Killed the gargoyles, rung the bell, then boned back to Andre and went down the elevator to Firelink shrine to get the ring of FaP from Lautrec. I killed him by hitting off the edge but when I reloaded the ring wasn't there. Reloaded a few more times, restarted the game, then decided that I could just go without the ring this playthrough and that it was just a strange bug. Died by falling off a cliff (I'm very smart, I know) but noticed I was still human. I thought it was strange, so I jumped off another cliff and died again. Still human. Sat at the firelink bonfire and the only option was leave. Used the darksign to see what happens, Still human.

I don't mind being a human for the whole playthrough, I just want to be able to access the firelink shrine bonfire again. If anyone has any ideas of how to fix this it would be greatly appreciated!

Edit: After going down to catacombs to kill pinwheel, then trying to get back and dying a couple thousand times, I have remained human, but upon my return to firelink the bonfire is now acting as normal! I went and looked and there was 5 humanity where Lautrec was (Still no ring of FaP tho) so I don't really have any issues, still would like to find out what happened though with the whole human thing.

    The most obnoxious boss

    Posted: 19 Feb 2021 06:22 PM PST

So I've been through a bit of the game. Didn't really have any problem with Taurus Demon, Capra Demon, went through Sen's Funhouse and Anal Rodeo. It's been fine.

Until I decided to go to Darkroot Basin. I chose the long ladder down leading straight to the hydra. You get hit 2 times while descending the ladder, which is BS, but I figured maybe it's the wrong way and chose to just power through it.

Approach the hydra, easy enough to cut the heads. Except at some point you clip through the water and instantly die.

Happened 6 times to me. How the fuck is that even possible and not fixed after so many years.

    Seriously. Fuck. This. Shit.

Thanks for attending my TED talk.
