Something Dark Souls 2 does best in the trilogy

    Posted: 22 Dec 2020 08:30 AM PST

In Dark Souls 1 you're the Chosen Undead. You're the pivotal part of an ancient prophecy and you're destined to alter the fate of the current cycle.

In Dark Souls 3 you're Unkindled Ash. You're a being that has been forced into existence for a specific purpose and are directly tied to the cycle.

In Dark Souls 2 you're the Bearer of the Curse. A nobody. Your past is left up to you. A forgotten hollow scrambling through this strange land. You find yourself in the same circumstances as most of the NPCs you encounter. You're not special, you're not the chosen one, you're just some random who achieves greatness despite having no real connection to the kingdom or the beings that inhabit it.

I strongly prefer humble, anonymous beginnings in RPGs. I don't want to be the chosen one or the dovahkin following the prescribed path to glory. I want to start from scratch and carve out my place in a world that was not expecting me.

Holy shit finally finished ds2, fromsoft games are the only games that i'd call an EXPERIENCE more than simply a game

    Posted: 22 Dec 2020 08:23 AM PST

And honestly i don't understand why people really hate it, it's as good as ds1 or 2 but it's not bad, it's at least an 8 for me

    About buying DS1

    Posted: 22 Dec 2020 02:55 AM PST

    Greetings,

I played a lot DS2, both vanilla and SOTFS, a couple of months ago I started DS3, which is good but it's a bit too Bloodborne for me (especially the screaming) and a bit laggy.

I was thinking about buying DS1 for compleating the series and the curiosity of testing such "artifact". I know it's more about worldbuiling and lore, but the gameplay? Is it good? Is it boring? Do defense works, can you tank? Is NG+ worth? Will it lag with this spec: intel(R) core(TM) i5-3360M CPU @ 2.80GHz ; 8GB ram.

I post this here because DS1 sub tends to have too much fanboy and I like DS2 a lot.

    Thank yoiu for reading

    Edit: grammar

    Still not gitting gud...

    Posted: 22 Dec 2020 06:31 AM PST

Attempting Fume Knight for the umpteenth time really makes me realise how awfully inconsistent I am at recognising patterns and reacting accordingly. 3hrs in and I still regularly get wrecked without lasting a whole minute. Anyone else feeling like they're hitting a wall even that late in the game?

Edit: finally got him, it only took a few hours of dying! Dodges are definitely my weak point ngl. Thank you all for your tips, and for letting me vent!

Finally begun the DLC after a bit of a break, starting with Shulva. I have one thing to say:

    Those damned ghosts!

Only after painstakingly slowly killing them one by one, did I realize there was a room full of the corpses.

Are the giants' arms a hint at what we might see in Elden Ring?

    Posted: 22 Dec 2020 07:44 AM PST

Sorry if this is better suited to the Elden Ring sub, but that's such a memefest and I wanted to know what people think.

I'm playing through DS2 for the first time and I just got to the giant memories. Seeing the different kinds of giants - in particular the poison giants - made me think about the Elden Ring trailer where we see characters with weird arm stuff going on.

The giant trees all seem to be missing arms, and the last giant famously rips its own arm off to hit you with. The poison giants have specialised arms, and the dead giants in the memories all seem to have a purple left arm. The elite and club giants have huge chunky arms and the pyromancer giants have cuffs on their arms that clearly mark them out.

Maybe it's a stretch, but it made me wonder if this idea of specialised arms is being explored more in Elden Ring. When watching the trailer, I couldn't help but focus on the arm motif that runs through - I think there's going to be some sort of arm swapping mechanic in the game.

What do you guys think? Am I crazy?

    PS OOOOOOOOHHHHHHH

Am I the only one who thought the Giant Warriors were the most terrifying enemy in the game?

    Posted: 22 Dec 2020 10:34 AM PST

Fighting the Last Giant and seeing how much of a pushover he was, and knowing Vendrick and his army eventually defeated the giants, I went into the giant memories expecting to be chilling, poking the ankles of large yet awkward enemies.

But when I was greeted by the first Giant Warrior smashing open that wall, specifically the type with those weird ass shoulders, it made me jump. Yes it was smaller than expected but that, combined with its uncanny anatomy, made it even more terrifying.

It's like how a dog sized spider would probably be scarier than a house sized spider, y'know? I thought all the giants would be as large as the Last Giant, but knowing there were smaller, more numerous versions too was kinda unsettling and I'm not sure why.

I was Terrified of Woodland Child Gully and Forlorn in Black Gulch until....

    Posted: 22 Dec 2020 08:12 AM PST

I kept getting beat up and it was making those horrible statues respawn. Then, on one panic fueled run, I dropped down to the platform that lead to Lucatiel. Forlorn fell right off the edge and it was so hilarious watching him drop 🤣! Tried the same thing with Woodland Child Gully and once he made it, but then he dropped the second time too! Has anyone else tried this? I guess investing in INT really paid off...

    Different/Unusual equipment

    Posted: 22 Dec 2020 04:52 AM PST

Hello folks! I'm looking for equipment that provide unique moves in Dark Souls 2, and where to find them. Note that I'm not looking for anything stats or appearance related.

As examples right now I can only think of the Bone Fist and those wings that make you slowly descend when you jump. I'm very interested in this in all 3 games, but let's keep this about DS2, I'll go to the other games' reddit and start similar ones.

    Thanks in advance 😁

    I need help with controller

    Posted: 22 Dec 2020 01:16 PM PST

I'm using a controller when playing the game. I recently noticed while I'm walking(moving left thumb joystick forward)and trying to look left(moving right thumb joystick left) my character also looks up quickly as if I'm moving right thumb joystick forward. I tried to calibrate it and there is the same problem. In windows calibrate settings when I move x rotation to the left when moving z axis to up, y rotation also slightly goes to left. I probably couldn't explain myself because english is not my main language but can someone help?

Y'all im close to going hollow

    Posted: 21 Dec 2020 07:09 PM PST

I've put hundreds of hours into ds1, ds3, sekiro, and bloodborne, and honestly didn't have many struggles with them. But this. This is a whole other experience. I bought this game last night, and have about 16 hours in (im in quarantine dont judge me). Holy shit, i have been beaten relentlessly on multiple occasions, with no sign of it getting any easier. I just reached the absolute hellhole that is the gutter. Please. Enhance me with your Holy git gud spirits.

    I love Twinblades

    Posted: 21 Dec 2020 11:44 PM PST

Yeah, they're not exactly realistic or do very much damage unless you build around it but they are just so cool. And success with one feels good.

Definitely one of the more tragic things about From games after 2 is that they never brought them back. I mean technically Bloodborne's Rakuyo was a TB, but it didn't have the moveset.

Dark Souls 2 needs a REMAKE FOR PS5 and PS4 PC

    Posted: 21 Dec 2020 03:50 PM PST

I realized that Dark Souls 2... really needs a second chance of wind when it comes to a full REMAKE. why do I caps REMAKE? Its simple. I want to emphasize how great this game truly is. And I thought about it. But if any game is an equal to Demons Souls or better. It would be Dark Souls 2. As I've said in my other post on this subreddit, I am truly at awe for this game. No its not as pretty as DS1 or beautiful as DS3/BB. But this game is beautiful in execution. Yes its janky at times. But it demolishes Dark Souls in PVP. Yes its bosses are ridiculous and stupid and less memorable. Fuck yes u agree to a point. I would say velstadt is insane. Nashandras Curse orbs are pretty neat. I can say the old man of the Pilgrims of Dark is pretty sick!!!! I know he isn't a boss but dammit. The covenants are so damn cool. The side quest are unique as well. The areas are like wow especially the DLC. I've yet to defeat sir alonne because I'm just grinding the game currently before starting NG+ the many fucking spells, awesomeness, yes this game needs a remake terribly. And its a well deserved one at best. While many may again shit on this game, its this same game even I used to shit on before forcing myself to play it thoroughly with a fist build is where I started to encounter so much fun. I think this game best Dark Souls 3. I think it best Dark souls. I may get sent to downvote oblivions shadow realm but even this game smashes Demon's Souls or at least is its equivalent as in its current state. But I am positive Dark Souls 2 REMAKE WOULD PROVE TO BE BETTER THAN DEMON'S SOULS REMAKE. SORRY NOT SORRY.

Are DLC's of DS2 worth playing just for the sake of DLC content?

    Posted: 22 Dec 2020 09:59 AM PST

    I've completed DS1 remastered (without dlc's), DS2 (without dlc's), DS3 and sekiro
Thought about replaying DS2 just to see DLC content. Im gonna be honest out of 4 those games DS2 my least favoutire but still enjoyed
