Dare I say I'm really enjoying DS 2? Dare I say I'm being hit with the same feeling I had when I played DS 1 for the first time? I think I do.

    Posted: 17 Nov 2020 08:52 AM PST

So, I recently made a post about coming back to DS 2, and people gave me vague suggestions, without spoiling the fun.

The summary is that Dark Souls 1 changed everything for me, absolutely everything. DS 3 I really liked and played it mostly for it's straight forward co-op and pvp. I have the prepare to die edition of Dark Souls 1 so I played it mostly as a single player.

DS 2 was like the black sheep which I never got into. I heard so many people shitting on it that I never gave it a chance.

So recently I had a sudden urge to give it a go, and although I initially didn't want to reroll, I ended up doing it.

I rolled a pure sorcerer, I'm putting every point in INT. Why? Because I'm a magic artillery steamrolling through the game. I'm not in my 20's anymore where I could spend all day battling against Ornstein and Smough stoned out of my mind.

My gaming sessions are at night, when everyone is asleep, and they usually last no more than two hours.

Playing a pure sorcerer is like playing a turbo version of the game. I found a fire long sword which I'm just going to use for the whole game, not that i really need it anyway. I never read a guide or anything the first time I'm playing a souls game, I leave that for my second play through, where I search all the secrets I didn't find the first time.

So it's weird but I'm actually getting hit with that feeling when I played DS 1 for the first time. I'm just mesmerized, reading every item, checking out every nook, putting the puzzle together.

Who the fuck are the giants?

Are they related to the gods of DS 1 who were huge as well?

Are they related to the black smith?

How does the giant archer or DS 3 fit in?

Why does this cat have such a evil vibe?

    Wtf corrupted the black gulch?

Why is there a elephant soldier in the sewer?

    When will I meet havel?

Please don't give me this answers, no spoilers please!

I dont have to get stressed about combat and just go full tourist/detective mode. I know it's not "the real" souls experience, but I don't really care at this point.

    DS 2 is a amazing game and I can't believe I didn't give it a chance earlier.

It's pretty active as well, I'm playing with other people all the time (which I usually never do on a first playthrough)

    DS2 completed - check!

    Posted: 17 Nov 2020 11:27 AM PST

So - just completed my SotFS playthrough, and it was an amazing journey. I've went through the main game + DLC's for highest possible experience. In the end, I had to fight both Nashandra and Aldia, and decided to leave the throne (second ending).

I've clocked 120h, and had to put lots of time into the Old Iron King DLC. That one was fekin hard, and Iron Passage left a significant mark on my brain (talking about you fekin blueberry troll...). Still a great DLC when I think of FK and Sir Alonne.

I didn't liked that the devs re-used many boss designs, and made you fight the same enemy x2. Nashandra was also a joke as the endgame boss, but Aldia was nice enough to take her place as even worse endgame boss.

Yet, I still love the game and all the places it took me through (no, not you Iron Passage and Frigid Outskirts) and feel accomplished to have completed the game.

DS and DS2 are hereby done on my list. Over to Bloodborne now, and then DS3. I feel like Dark Souls have placed a Darksign inside me, and doesn't allow me to enjoy any other games. I just can't wait to move over to the next Soulsborne game!

Review of The Old Iron King DLC

    Posted: 17 Nov 2020 12:14 PM PST

So I've picked the game back up after a month off and I'm still trying to get the plat. I finished the Sunken King. I thought Elana was BS but Sinh was okay, if not a bit too easy.

I decided to crack on with The Old Iron King since that had the last pyromancies I needed. I had played a bit of this before and I was dreading it. I remembered constant ganks and unfair enemies.

While there are some BS moments, and other infuriating ones, this has probably been my favourite part of any Souls game's DLC. It had some decent interconnectivity and a pretty cool area in the Foyer.

However, the crowning moment... Fume Knight. Oh my god. This boss is my favourite in the whole series. It took me about three hours to beat him and I certainly think it's the best boss in the game. Fast attacks which are still dodgable, fair telegraphs without making it obvious and a meannnnn second phase. I honestly love this boss. Not once did I find a part unfair and DS2's hitboxes never acted up in this fight for me. On top of that, it has an easy run up.

On the contrary, Smelter Demon and Sir Alonne have the worst run ups. I'm not even doing Smelter, fuck him. Alonne moves WAY too fast for DS2 IMO and I can't see any telegraphs. The run to him is ridiculous too. He would be much better suited to DS3 with a shorter run up or Bloodborne. I've switched to a shield to beat this guy and I'm gonna complete it tonight.

I'd rank this the best of DS2's DLCs for the Fume Knight fight alone, but it also suffers less from ganks like the other two. 7/10, needs less run ups.

How to best level up my Knight?

    Posted: 17 Nov 2020 02:25 PM PST

Hi all, this is my first time playing Dark Souls 2 (or any souls game, for that matter) and am loving it! Anyway, I just reached level 61 and am wondering how to best allocate stats for my knight going forward. I ask because I read somewhere that pure melee fighters are weak later in the game and that instead giving the ability to cast spells could add a lot in terms of buffing up my character (i.e. make him a more effective combatant). Any thoughts on that? Should I focus on increasing intelligence, or faith...or both? What about attunement?

    FWIW, my current stats are:

    VIG (20), END (20), VIT (10), ANT (4), STR (15), DEX (12), ADP (24), INT (3), FTH (6)

Note that I am NOT married to the idea of pure melee.

    Thanks!

Does the game get "easier" later on?

    Posted: 17 Nov 2020 10:29 AM PST

I'm currently in the castle thing in the Forest Of The Fallen Giants. I played Dark Souls remastered, and I have to say that the start of this game is wayyyy harder than Dark Souls Remastered. Is DS2 generally just way harder, or is it just harder in the beginning?

    ( Ps4 ) Sotfs tips wanted!

    Posted: 17 Nov 2020 08:24 AM PST

So. I'm not too familiar with ds2. I've solo only'd ds1, ds3, bloodborne, and sekiro. I would like a little advice because I'm stuck on smelter demon (red).

I'm running 40 dex, 40 faith using rapier+5 as main damage, dagger+5 as critical damage. And of course a +4 chime so my lightning spears hit pretty well.

What would you change about my build? Is there a better dex weapon instead of the rapier? Where should I farm shards of each type? Should I be doing a different boss at the moment? Any help at all is appreciated. Thank you so much.

Elemental Blue Knight Halberd is stupid good.

    Posted: 16 Nov 2020 03:09 PM PST

I was checking out weapons I never really use and the blue knight halberd stood out since I usually murder Targrey for his armor after the dragonslayer but never really used his weapon. Well I made a new character for int stuff and got lucky with and got a faintstone from a lizard.

I infused the thing and it loses basically no physical damage. B scaling int, high physical damage and the sweet sweet halberd moveset. thing thing is bonkers in pve. I got it to +3 and it's just annihilating things, even if my build isn't that great at the moment.

    Charred Loyce Knight troubles?

    Posted: 17 Nov 2020 06:36 AM PST

For some reason I'm really struggling on this part. Out of 10+ attempts I've only actually gotten to the boss once. Nearly killed him outright on that try but I mistimed a few dodges and was already running dry on flasks after the knights.

The main problem I'm having is that the knights are swarming me. They'll make a straight charge for me even if it means running through all of the allied knights I have. Yes, before anyone asks, I have all 4. But they seem utterly useless. Enemies ignore them, and they seem passive at times when it comes to attacking.

Thing puzzling me the most is that I did this fight 4 years ago on my first and only play other through, and I do not recall this fight being close to this difficult and frustrating.

    How do shield stats apply?

    Posted: 16 Nov 2020 06:45 PM PST

For example, the stats physical, magic, fire, etc reduction. Are these stats only applied when shielding an attack or are they simply added to your overall stats just for having the shield equipped?

I always 2 hand my weapons and never actually block attacks. I just leave the shield on my back for item discovery. So I'm wondering if it's worth spending materials to upgrade a shield if I don't actively use it. Thanks.

Hello wonderful people, what's your go-to pvp loadout?

    Posted: 16 Nov 2020 10:17 PM PST

Feel free to share PVP loadout.(other tools like firebombs, throwing knives, etc are accepted). and plz mention how you implement it to combo chain and kill Invaders and hosts alike. By this discussion we can help each other learn more about pvping in dark souls 2 and this can certainly help many people like us.

(PC) How to farm one time despawning mobs with rare items easy.

    Posted: 17 Nov 2020 02:45 AM PST

Are you tired of not getting items like the Lizard Staff or the Monastery scimitar?
Sick of burning through ascetics or NG?
    I have the solution!

(BEWARE, this implies doing some pc savedata moving, if you don't have any idea of what I'm saying in the first steps please do not attempt, I would hate to see your savedata gone)

    1. Create a direct access on your desktop to [YOUR_HARD_DRIVE_LETTER]\Users\[YOUR_SISTEM_USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\DarkSoulsII\[FOLDER_WITH_WEIRD_NUMBERS]. This is your savedata ds2 folder, so be very careful about what you do!!!!
    2. Prepare your game for the farm you want to do, then exit to the title screen. Do not press start, leave it.
    3. Do alt+tab or if you don't have another window open Ctrl+alt+supr and task administrator.
    4. Open your direct access, then copy paste the .sl2 file to your desktop. DO NOT DRAG AND DROP.
    5. Enter the game and do the farm. If you didn't get the right item, exit to the title screen. I repeat, do not press start.
    6. Do alt+tab and copy paste the .sl2 file on the DarkSoulsII folder. Your pc will ask you If you are sure about that. Double check that you're copying everything on the right place.
    7. Do alt+tab again and enter the game (press start). Tada! You've traveled back in time.
    8. Repeat steps 5 to 7 until the desired item drops.

That's it. Some of you may already know this, but just in case, i'll post it here.
