I Beat Ornstein And Smough For The First Time! Posted: 22 Sep 2020 06:51 PM PDT Hello! I'm playing Dark Souls for the first time and it is ruddy bloody brilliant! As you've guessed from the title I have just beaten after five attempts the famous Ornstein And Smough and it was a tough fight however the moment it clicked was when I de-equipped my shield and de-locked the camera. It was like night and day. As soon as I swapped from hiding behind a shield to rolling around and hitting them in the back the fight was already over and it was awesome! I can't wait to see what's next in the game! I absolutely love Dark Souls and I'm glad the community is nowhere near as toxic as I was lead to believe. The community has helped me through a lot of the game and I'm very grateful for that. Anyway I'm off to kill some more bosses! EDIT: I forgot to note I did not summon and I did the easier Super Smough fight. [link] [comments] |
Why am I not getting summoned? Posted: 23 Sep 2020 04:26 AM PDT I have my white sign down by solaires bonfire in anor londo for over an hour and nobody is summoning me? What the hell. [link] [comments] |
I need guidance on what to do next. Posted: 23 Sep 2020 04:54 AM PDT I am new to the game and I just rung the second bell, it says I have to go to anor lando but there are so many locations I still need to explore. I have really touch the catacombs, I still need to kill the hydra and stif, and I found this location called I think the hollow, it's like this big dead tree looking thing, any suggestions on what to do next would be really appreciated. Need help with run, dragon mode fisting Posted: 23 Sep 2020 04:41 AM PDT sup, So i've done just about every run type you can do in dark souls 1 except for one. I've never gone dragon mode and i've never used it for a fists only playthrough. i know where the dragon covenant is. what stats should i go for, what are the best places to find scales, looking for help basically from start to finish, thanks [link] [comments] |
Posted: 23 Sep 2020 04:11 AM PDT What's the most popular SL/locations for pvp on switch? It's my favorite part of dark souls and I'm hoping there's a sweet spot. I own it on every version on every console but Xbox one so i guess I'll ask for those too. I'll take what I can get lol. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 22 Sep 2020 01:48 PM PDT Caps... I know sorry... really wanted to draw attention to this. You have to stand there for a bit then it starts happening and you can clearly see something is moving light around behind that door! EDIT: ficksed the link. Poor quality vid but you get the idea. Does this help confirm Havel Plot? Could the real Havel be locked up in there instead? Or maybe his co-conspirators? This must be important and no one online seems to have mentioned it before. Did I do it? Did I make a thing? Lololol. More Edit!: I hit the door with a black firebomb right as the light appeared. Nothing happened. Science be a cruel mistress. Oh shit! If you look at the lower leftmost crack in the bricks you can still see the light reflecting around the room even when it's not flashing behind the doorway! THERE LEGIT IS SOMEONE IN THERE! C'MON BROS WE GOTTA GET'EM OUT! :b [link] [comments] |
Posted: 22 Sep 2020 03:38 PM PDT I loved Dark Souls on the 360 and kind of want to revisit it but I heard the remaster sucked. Did they fix the problems it had? I wanna get it for ps4, if that affects anything [link] [comments] |
Posted: 23 Sep 2020 04:15 AM PDT I started Dark souls 1 remastered on Xbox one again. I got to ceaseless discharge and couldn't get him to fall off the ledge. He would just ai there and do his fire attack. It was the first time I ever had to actually fight him. Just curious, does anyone know if From fixed that in the remastered version? [link] [comments] |
Is Return to Lordran 2020 going to happen? Posted: 23 Sep 2020 04:07 AM PDT I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but I have been searching everywhere for an announcement. I thought I would wait until the release date of DS1 to see if one would be made, (since I heard that's typically when those are held) Anyway, title really says it all. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 23 Sep 2020 02:34 AM PDT RNG bless me with BK Halberd and Shield from first two Black Knight, fuck it, making a Black Knight build I originally pick Bandit to do a STR build Should i do 40/18 or 40/40? Should i go for Havel/FaP Ring or just Havel and other ring? And what Heavy Set should i wear except Silver/Black Knight set before i get them? [link] [comments] |
Is there any explanation for warping in DS 2 and DS 3? Posted: 23 Sep 2020 02:21 AM PDT I loved dark souls 1 partly because everything the world had made sense in that world. Things such as Fast travel which are so common in every game are taken for granted, but not in dark souls. Here it is linked to the all-important McGuffin "Lordvessel", which grants the undead the ability to warp between bonfires. I understand why DS 2 and 3 had this mechanic from the start, but is there any in-world explanation to why it's possible as it breaks immersion in the Dark souls series. [link] [comments] |
DEEP Lore Dive into the Nature of Souls. Posted: 22 Sep 2020 08:06 PM PDT Killing Havel sent my mind on a bit of a journey and I think I've solved the riddle (at least well enough for me!) posed by the Humanity sprite description! Havel exudes soul fog on death. From what I've seen this only happens to certain enemies and the player. These enemies and the player have one thing in common: likely not hollow and thus are likely shedding or dropping some of, if not all of their soul. When you use a humanity shard you crush the shard taking in this same fog and the remaining bits of the shard's darkness. Havel's soul (and sorry to burst this bubble but we gotta rip the bandaid off here: it is Havel) is a golden hue indicating he bore at least some small portion of Lord Gwyn's powerful light soul within himself. Havel's men would not have this golden soul as they were likely only humans not bestowed with any of Gwyns direct power. This got me thinking... I believe the game focuses on souls and humanity to be confusing and misleading but I'm on to you Big M. I'm calling you out bro. Let's go Miyazaki. I believe It's really more like this: Fire is the source of ALL souls and really there is only one world soul that's been split up into 4 main aspect branches, but make no mistake they are all Flame.
Life is the most common aspect as it's been split far more than Light and Death and isn't being as readily "consumed" as the Dark Humanity aspect. Demons and the Choas Flame are a part of the One Flame but in the extreme form of Life soul fragments being completely removed from whole and allowed to form wildly like the Abyss, unchecked by Balance and pursued by Power. Pyromancy is Life exerting its power over heat to its full extent while still in check by Balance and Power. Angelic powers are Light left unchecked by Balance and ordered, far removed from the chaos of Life. The power of the Dark aspect is its ability to meld with the other aspects. Humanity is the aspect of Balance in this way. Moonlight magic is cosmic/eldritch power... outta general lacking and weakness may elide to the cosmic/eldritch creator itself experiencing difficulty or even waking up (the broken cycles of time do nothing to dissuade this line of thought.) Soul/crystal magic is merely the manipulation of the raw energy of the soul. When that power is unnaturally unfettered from Life and Light/Death hold a weakened sway over this power it becomes crystal. It seems that in extreme cases of heat void, cold magic can occur. Cold magic is essentially the the manipulation of void or lack of Flame via soul energy. Gentle magic is perfectly balanced magic consisting of Light, Dark, Life in equal parts. (The Tri-Force if you will.) You can pick up parts of any of these soul fragments and then your overall soul power increases but only the aspect that represents you directly functions to bolster your innate power as Humanity does for the player. So, this means you can crush a soul of an aspect that you don't posses naturally and take is raw power but you can't absorb the different soul directly like you can Humanity. The Light soul fragments are to Gwyn and his ilk what humanity is for humans, etc, etc... The energy we call souls in game are not individual souls that can be categorized in any of the four aspect branches but rather the quantum state or raw energy of the Flame that fuels all "life" and thus creates all souls, which really means sentience consciousness, regardless of the lifeforms own soul type. Before the First (and truly only) Flame things functioned like insects kind of without conscious thought. They didn't have passion, desire, or power. With all that said loss of Humanity is not the only way to revert to animalistic bug life as a hollow. The Unnamed King has a golden Light soul but is clearly hollowing. The point is that the loss of ANY form of existence's primary branch of soul in its entirety can create a hollow and/or pre-Flame version of a lifeform. White soul items are in the beginning stages of crystallization as they are losing their heat and becoming more still. The latter stage being soul gems. The older the soul gem gets the more energy it has had time to absorb from the world around it and the more golden it grows (soul energy is found in everything, even a little bit in rubbish). The Flame is the whole world soul, not just the humanoids soul. If you take the painting as a metaphor for a world dreamed up by a cosmic or eldritch being, and I do, you could say the world is empty of sentient life in the Age of Ancients, but not all moving entities, as the Flame is all rejoined and buried far below the surface world awaiting discovery and dispersal once again to begin a new age. The world becomes an egg. I suspect this foggy, cold time between dispersal is usually the equivalent of the Age of Ancients. The Age of the Deep is a fearful lie based on the watery qualities of the base powers of Humanity or rather its dregs. The Age of Light/Life/Dark are theoretically possible, but impose similar faults on the natural order as Gwyns broken Age of Fire, and all represent a lack of proper balance and order, giving to much sway on the world to any one living aspect. Ironically, Gwyns actions are producing the real Age of Dark, while the Age of Dark so often mentioned in game is no different than Gwyns current warped Age of Fire. This is why the situation remains the same no matter if you link the fire or put it out... either way the Darkness gets too much of the power balance. The True Age of Fire is the Flame divided but properly governed by Power, properly balanced by Humanity, properly warmed and made passionate by Life, and eventually dies to be recycled by Death. The true cycle is no magical reseting cycle but a neverending repetition of the Age of Ancients and the True Age of Fire. Gwyn forcing the Flame to feed on itself is causing the timeline to break by teaching the Flame to be ever living and self-sustaining... and fearful of Death. The overlapping timelines are kind of like someone hit the brakes and everything from the past cycles is piling up on itself. Humanity is not the only form of soul that can feed the Flame but it is the Dark aspect that the Light aspect feared most thus Humanity became the chosen preferred fuel for kindling. Gwyn taught that this kept the fire lit. ...and believed it removed some of the Dark, that he (foolishly) thought threatened the Light, from the world. In truth Light and Dark are not enemies and are but parts of the same whole... Gwyn wasn't just an asshole, he was an idiot slowly destroying his world. The flame doesn't actually consume or burn souls but rather rejoins them to the whole in a most unnatural way discovered by Gwyn and Seathe called Kindling. Gwyn thought he was feeding the flame because it did indeed grow larger when adding souls to it but when he started feeding it mostly the Dark aspect aka Humanity, he was dimming its overall light causing the seemingly fading of the Flame which in truth was never happening in the natural way. Dark begins to become over balanced, becoming the Abyss. Humanity run rampant, unchecked by Light and Life. The flame wasn't dying just shrinking in light and thus heat as the Light/Life aspects carry more heat and thus power like lightning and pyromancy. Basically once most of Humanity had been fed to the Flame only embers seemed to remain but the flame stayed strong as ever but warped and off balance while displaying less and less Light and Heat. The undead curse is no curse at all but a cosmic or eldritch fail-safe that will eventually force a reset by causing the wrongly immortal Flame to slowly lose its connection to its own soul aspects and robbing it of its power (thus losing memories and fully hollowing). Once everything is hollow and loses all souls Death will once again rejoin the Flame and hit the gas on the cycling again. Order will be restored. This is what happens at the end of the Ringed City DLC. The very earth turned to ash as its soul energy was absorbed into the so called Blood of the Dark Soul. Basically the power of death is temporarily revoked by cosmic or eldritch powers and man-handled back into order at which point Death is able to begin doing is job again via this metaphorical painting. The Soulsbourne games are essentially various iterations of the cycles that were a part of the Broken Age of Fire and its terrible journey back to stability if you ask me. [link] [comments] |
Ambient sound in Remaster... sigh... Posted: 23 Sep 2020 05:20 AM PDT Been replaying the original version on PS3 and noticed how much richer the ambient sounds seemed to be. Went back to the remaster and played the same area and realized that there is NO ambient sound. Just silence. After some research I've discovered that it's a glitch. I guess? But whenever you notice that there is NO ambient sound, you can reload the game, and its suddenly there. So yeah. That's pretty disappointing. Because having to constantly reload the game to help it maintain its ambience kind of defeats the purpose of ambient sound in the first place. I dunno. Just discovering this has me angry. I know some people could care less, but, for some, atmosphere is a huge part of the game. I always knew something was weird with the silence, and it took playing the original to figure out that it was just screwed up by the team that remastered it. Okay, rant over. [link] [comments] |
This didn’t get enough attention... Posted: 22 Sep 2020 10:36 PM PDT |
Posted: 23 Sep 2020 12:31 AM PDT He asked me for 2500 souls for something, I don't know what, and I didn't have it, so I went and got it, came back, and he was gone. Am I missing out? [link] [comments] |

Where do i go after the bell gargoyles fight Posted: 22 Sep 2020 04:19 PM PDT Ive already rung the bell and cannot find out where to go from there [link] [comments] |
Board and looking for a new style/challenge Posted: 22 Sep 2020 07:40 PM PDT I've played the souls games for thousands of hours. Frankly the first and third are my favorite. I've recently gotten two of my friends to start the third game and I was going to pull them along with a character with over 200 hours on it, but that takes away their fear and pressure to a point. If i started a new character or play style what would you recommend? Right now I play as a paladin style with heavy weapons and lightening attack using light armour for dex and movement speeds. I have played a dex build and dabbled a little in a magic build which turned more into a qual build after realizing I found staying at a distance boring. I would do an archer but I feel it will become the same as the magic and I will change the character completely. [link] [comments] |

Can somebody explain a meme to me? Posted: 23 Sep 2020 02:41 AM PDT So I died to sif a few times then decided to look for a walkthrough, then I came across some memes about people crying over Sif's death, why is that?, He's just a big boss with big sword, I know animal abuse is serious, but come on, it doesn't exist yet. Posted: 22 Sep 2020 11:09 AM PDT First time playing the first dark souls and I rang the first bell today! I have an incredible adrenaline rush after beating the gargoyles and I'm hooked. I know its just the begining but I'm starting to understand why many people love the first game the most. Feels good. [link] [comments] |
