/r/DarkSouls - Modding Monday. Posted: 23 Aug 2020 11:11 PM PDT Welcome to the weekly Dark Souls mod announcement and discussion thread! Beware! Use of mods whilst connected to the internet can cause you to get banned from online play! For more information, or to continue the discussion visit /r/ModSouls Using mods (PC only!) to enhance or add new content to the Souls games is great fun! It is important, however, to understand that mods are against From's EULA/ToS, so there is a great risk of being banned when using them due to From's anti-cheat--which is deployed in most versions of the Souls games. Versions of the games where modding is safe due to no anti-cheat: Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition Versions of the games where modding carries a very high risk of being banned: Dark Souls: Remastered Dark Souls II Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin Dark Souls III Our recommendations for safe modding *This advice is intended for first-time or relatively inexperienced modders who want to get into modding without risking a ban on their main Steam account. Basic Steps: Make a separate Steam account Use Steam's Family Sharing feature to provide your new account with access to your main Steam account's game library. Install games to be used with the new account in a separate directory. Once you've found your mods be sure to read (and follow) the mod author's instructions carefully prior to installation. Set Steam to "off line" mode. Install the mods and perform any necessary setup. Enjoy the fun and interesting experiences offered by mods! Be sure to remove all file components of the mod before going back online! Posted: 23 Aug 2020 05:49 AM PDT I don't really know if people have a similar story to mine, but since the world is a vast place full of billions I guess someone out there feels the same way I do. Let's just say that at times where life hasn't been going well, I played this game for the first time ever. To me it represented my life, never giving up, always trying. The bosses were problems in my life, each one had a way of beating it. Chipping away at it's health. Instead of going hollow, I decided to apply the similar things that darksouls have taught me and I never gave up. You don't get countless chances in life, so I counted every chance. Ik this sounds kind of far fetched, but everything suddenly became a fog wall of sorts, I embraced challenges. When I had a problem in life, Ik I beat ornstien and smough, Ik I beat the nameless king, and soon I figure out my problems. IDK if this type of post is even allowed or if anyone will read, but I really appreciate what Miyazaki has done and I'm sure he helped others in their lives as mine. Praise the sun Edit: wooooooow, I'm really blown away. I read each and every response, and I'm glad this community exists. Keep Dodge rolling, and if you fall, get back up. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Aug 2020 12:20 AM PDT Does the difficulty curve become too much after this boss or will I be okay even though i didn't defeat him at all?I know that dark souls has a steep difficulty curve,so will my experience with other bosses be much more difficult or will i be okay ? Thanks in advance [link] [comments] |
Posted: 23 Aug 2020 08:40 PM PDT I started out with the series with DS3, then moved onto DS1. I got up to the depths and gave up, 4 months later I came back on a new character and kicked the games ass. It took me around 5 days to beat the game, but I enjoyed every second. Just wanted to share [link] [comments] |

Just beat Dark Souls for the first time! Posted: 24 Aug 2020 12:27 AM PDT I don't have any words, this has undoubtedly been the best game I've EVER played, and I wish I've played it sooner. I'm getting into NG+ right away, can't wait to beat Gwyn's ass again! [link] [comments] |
Dark Souls 1 is the hardest FromSoft game I’ve played so far Posted: 23 Aug 2020 05:55 PM PDT For context: I've completed Sekiro and Bloodborne twice each but have never played a DS title. I figured I'd start with DS1 and oh my god... I am in Blighttown right now and so far I'm finding the game very difficult - but in an irritating way, not in a fun way. The bosses so far have been a walk in the park for me, but everything else? I'm struggling to enjoy it. My main issue is I find it so clunky. So many times I've died from getting stuck in between weird clipping spots, getting caught in awkward terrain and just in general the movement feels extremely cumbersome and imprecise. I've clearly been spoilt by the ultra smooth movement of Bloodborne and Sekiro. I understand that the DS games are to be played far less aggressively, but I feel like I've definitely adapted to this less aggressive, more tactical playstyle. I feel like the challenge in these latter mentioned games comes from combat directly - whereas I feel like with DS1 the challenge rather comes from positioning, which I personally dislike, and is probably why I'm finding the game by far the most gruelling. By no means were Sekiro and Bloodborne easy, but I found the challenges far more exciting and rewarding; whereas so far in DS1 they just feel laborious, chore-like. Blighttown is the worst offender for me so far, these precarious platforms suck the life out of combat for me and I find myself parrying, parrying, parrying (which I'm really good at luckily, but I want variety), because rolling just gets me stuck bumping into awkward clipping points (honestly I'd rather just fall off to my death than to roll only to get stuck because I went into an awkward bit of terrain). My problem with this kind of difficulty is that when I die due to something like this, I don't get the motivation or satisfaction of improving, because the hazards/mistakes are too crude. It's not like in Sekiro where, if I die, it's completely my fault and I can look back and be like "okay I need to dodge here. I need to run away here, THEN move back in". Here the game mechanics just feel too unrefined for me to focus on improving my gameplay sometimes. What do you all think? I REALLY want to love DS1 because I've heard so much praise for it, but so far I'm really struggling to consistently enjoy it. I wonder how I might break this feeling? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Aug 2020 12:48 AM PDT Honestly, I'm really, really bad. I can barely get trough the first boss. Hopefully it's just because it's my first time playing souls game and I'm getting used to controls. I could still use some tips and tricks. [link] [comments] |
I'm not sure how to feel about this Posted: 23 Aug 2020 01:00 PM PDT I just got dark souls remastered it's not my first souls game I've played ds3 and bloodborne. someone invaded me when I was only in the undead burger and he gave me a ton of stuff like 5 souls of Artorias and various other things. idk I just felt like I should share [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Aug 2020 02:57 AM PDT I finally got my shit together and got all the weapons in one day. I did nothing else and the only thing I feel now is reliev. Because I don't have to kill bed of Chaos a third time. [link] [comments] |
How do I reinforce my weapons? Posted: 24 Aug 2020 04:04 AM PDT I'm not a stranger to the souls series, I've played Bloodborne, Dark Souls 3 and Sekiro and I just started playing the remaster for the first time. I just went through Blighttown and beat Quelaag and I'm starting to wonder how to reinforce my weapons, because I'm dealing really pitiful damage. [link] [comments] |
Why does playing give me so much anxiety, and how can I reduce it? (A Rant) Posted: 23 Aug 2020 03:51 PM PDT I recently bought Skyrim for the first time ever on my switch. I never had a PC for gaming, and never had a real console past PS2. I stuck with my DS/3DS and my wii. The most similar game to dark souls I've ever played is breath of the wild. Well, after seeing some funny and enthusiastic videos about it, I just bought Dark Souls 1 on my switch. I saw reviews for it saying "this game is so hard but it's so much fun!" I decided to buy it. "It's a good game for quarantine" I thought. I knew some game mechanics when I started, like losing souls when you die and having only one chance to get them back. That's fine. "Dying is a mechanic" I told myself. But for some reason I find myself too afraid to even try to play. I don't know if it's that what I need to do next is usually discovered by trial and error, or if it's all the stats that I need to juggle (I don't often play these kinds of games so it's overwhelming). I honestly think that my fear/anxiety I get from playing the game is trying to balance every aspect from the game. I move very slow even though I carry only 50% of my total carrying capacity. My swings of my sword take like a full second from hitting my button to the sword actually being swung. Enemies either move too fast for me to register or swarm me and hit me in between swings. I found myself stuck for THREE HOURS at the bonfire before the Taurus demon, fighting all enemies "to git gud" but dying practically the second I stepped away from the bonfire. I didn't even care about dying anymore since I didn't have any souls to begin with. I tried killing all the enemies before the Taurus demon but found myself ill prepared since I drank all but 1 estus flask on the road getting there. Eventually I felt so sick with myself that I just ran past all the enemies. I got hit maybe twice and still had my estus. Then the Taurus demon would kill me. Eventually I looked up a walkthrough which helped reduce the stress of "how much longer until another bonfire?!" But then I see the player kill everyone first try, and feel like I should be better by now. I am stuck in the undead parish. I killed the sorcerer guy before the gargoyles but I can't kill the swarm of the undead who respawn. The walkthrough says to summon a helper, whatever that means. But I have to be human to summon someone and I am afraid of wasting all my humanity trying to get to the gargoyles in the first place. I even tried upgrading my weapon (they are damaged I guess) but I set my controller down and it caused my character to attack the blacksmith. Now I can't even fix my sword. I want to play this game but I feel so overwhelmed with the directions to go and feel like I'll be too afraid of losing to try and play the game. Any advice on how to actually get good and enjoy the failure? [link] [comments] |
Rolling Input Not Being Read (DSR) Posted: 24 Aug 2020 12:30 AM PDT Hi all, I'm having a bit of an odd Issue with Dark souls remastered. So it seems in boss fights, about 40% of the time I hit roll, my character does nothing at all, just stands there. I've done testing outside of bosses and it seems completely fine? But the moment I hit a boss room, half of my inputs disappear. I'm a pretty big dark souls veteran so I know it's definitely not me mistiming them. Especially because, for example during the manus fight, I'll hit roll, nothing will happen, and manus will miss me anyway. Seems like it's gotten bad since I've started the dlc of all things. Has anyone heard of/experienced this? Some decent googling led me nowhere. Thanks! [link] [comments] |

How do I play with a fat roll? Posted: 23 Aug 2020 05:16 PM PDT Pretty much the title. I started playing dsr a few days ago, as a knight, for the two handed weapons. For the most part its great, I love pancaking enemies with the Zweihander, but I've really been struggling against bosses. I either block, and don't have enough stamina to safely attack, or I have to try and roll, and either get hit or just can't attack because its too slow. How do I deal with this? The specific boss(es?) I'm struggling with are the bell gargoyles. [link] [comments] |
Dark souls Remastered on switch worth Posted: 24 Aug 2020 12:58 AM PDT I've played ds 2 & 3 and attempted ds 1 back in the day on PC with the shitty port, was wondering if switch version runs well? I have pro controller to play as well [link] [comments] |
In which order should I play the games? Posted: 24 Aug 2020 04:40 AM PDT I already have ds 1 and 2 and will get 3 soon. Should I play the games in order or should I play 1 then 3, and finally 2? I'm asking because people said 1 and 3 are pretty connected [link] [comments] |
I wanted to do a DS remastered co-op run with a friend. Suggest me a build. Posted: 24 Aug 2020 04:33 AM PDT |
People who have hit the crestfallen warrior on their first playthrough, How was your experience ? Posted: 23 Aug 2020 10:21 PM PDT When you first come to the firelink shrine you may have thought the crestfallen warrior was an enemy, If so how did you survive after hitting him. Did you run away or did you try to kill him ? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Aug 2020 12:28 AM PDT I was doing this for myself and ended up having a blast making it and felt pretty proud of how it turned out so I thought I'd share it [link] [comments] |
Baked a darksouls themed cake for my brother's birthday! Posted: 23 Aug 2020 05:29 AM PDT |
Posted: 23 Aug 2020 01:22 PM PDT In the past couple of hours, i took on Kalameet, Manus AND Gwyn in ng+ and absolutely demolished them. I beat Kalameet in one try(again), Manus in three only because i forget to get the silver pendant twice, and Gwyn in three. I have never felt so good in my life, each smooth and assured victory greater than the last, and once the credit song started playing i might as well have orgasmed, I'm usually not this good at the game(died to gaping dragon five times to the same attack) but i just reached the avatar state in these last two hours and absolutely wrecked house. Sorry if i was rambling, it just that it feels so good to actually do above average at a game, I'll probably regret posting this once the high of victory disappears but i just had to share this, now to do it for the third time! Posted: 23 Aug 2020 10:27 PM PDT I recently started DS1 remastered but I don't want to play online, I want to do a solo playthrough first, so I don't have any use for humanity and I have 5 right now. Can I use them for anything at all other than the online features? I have 5 cause the game gave them to me cause I was stuck at a boss for quite some time [link] [comments] |
