| The relation between Velstadt and Elana (Theory) Posted: 11 Aug 2020 04:02 PM PDT So we know that Vendrick sent the drakeblood knights to Shulva to destroy Sinh, but I think Vendrick also sent Velstadt as well. I think while he was in Shulva, he met Elana, similarly to how his brother met Nadalia. They fell in love but he separated from Elana; Velstadt might have had second thoughts about being a part of Drangleic while also being tempted to become king of Shulva by marrying Elana, but he chose his own kingdom over Elana and returned home. Elana never forgot about him though, and still summons his spirit to protect her as he once did a long time ago. Velstadt and his brother both falling in love with fragments of Manus but being tempted to leave their kingdoms behind is an interesting idea which makes Velstadt an even more interesting character than just "Vendrick's loyal protector". Feel free to criticize in the comments but I think this theory is pretty plausible! [link] [comments] |

| I played Dark Souls 2 DLC blind with the Poorly Translated Mod installed... Posted: 12 Aug 2020 10:19 AM PDT As the title would indicate, last night was very interesting. Earlier in the day, I had decided to install the Poorly Translated Mod for DS2:SotFS just for the laughs. I had seen a number of YouTubers and Streamers do Dark Souls 3, so I wanted to jump in on 2 and see what I could get into. At first, I just was playing a new character through the very familiar parts of the game. But then, I decided later to log into my main character and do Frozen Eluem Loyce and The Old Iron King DLC. Keep in mind as we go forward that I had never played either of these DLCs ever, and didn't pay attention much when it would be shown in video. I was in the dark, so when I say it was fun trying to figure out where the "Prevention is the key to solving the problem" key item went, believe me. I looked it up later, and it was the Garrison Ward Key. Things also went kinda wrong when trying to navigate between bonfires if I got stuck. How was I supposed to know where the "Loy special refrigerators" area was to get to the "camera drop" bonfire?? Again, looking them up later, I found that the refrigerators or whatever was referring to Frozen Eleum Loyce and camera drop meant the Expulsion Chamber. In hindsight, this was probably a mistake, but it was still funny reading the item descriptions, or being told "You cannot have a campfire" when I tried to sit during an invasion. It was all good fun. In closing, i want to say I wish I could include some examples of the wacky translations, but I do not know how to include them or link them. Posted: 12 Aug 2020 07:39 AM PDT Hi, So I've just used a branch to unlock Straid since I was told he sells another Dark Orb scroll, which is always great. I see that he's also the NPC that trades boss souls for weapons. I've traded the Ruin Sentinel soul for Heavy Homing Soul Arrow since I'm trying to unlock all spells (Despite maining as a hexer, more spells are always nice lol) but all the other souls I have are just for high STR and DEX weapons. Someone told me the Dragonrider Bow is good, but with a 20 STR requirement I'm not so sure I want it... I also see there's no item for the Lost Sinner soul (Just killed her) so wondering if I'm safe to consume it since I can't trade it for anything here... What I'd really like to know is which boss souls give me caster items such as spells and gear? Because I'm really thinking of just eating all the others as I'm wanting to stick to being a caster with only a bit of melee (10 STR 16 DEX, currently using Fire Longsword (Not upgraded yet, should I?) and hoping to get a Silverblack Spear) Thanks! Sure there are homing missiles, it's just a matter of rolling and killing crawlers. Also you can use Bell Keeper Shield. You can avoid all of the large enemies if you want. [link] [comments] |

| I finally beat Sir Alonne without npcs Posted: 12 Aug 2020 06:31 AM PDT I dont normally do this but this was a big deal for me, in my original playthrough of scholar Alonne was sort of my nemesis, much more than Fume Knight, and I felt like beating him WITH npcs was hard enough. The whole build up for this boss fight was epic. With knights jumping along with you, then they closing the doors, such a cool move. And when ivory king come to ground, walking in flames, jesus i came so hard I wonder if there are any better "entrances" to a boss fight. | Posted: 12 Aug 2020 01:41 PM PDT Hi, so I have some time on my hands and I'm studying game design principles. Plus I'm playing through the game! Some things frustrate me in the DS series and I was wondering if maybe I missed easy ways to accomplish them. Please don't take any of these as insults or crying, I know I come off as insulting accidentally a lot of the time. I just want to learn and also get some thoughts from other people. Opinions can vary about what makes a game too easy and what sources of difficulty make the game special and I don't want to say anyone is wrong. I love the souls games. I would like to know if I'm missing a good way to deal with the following items, or how you handle them yourself :)
Given that weapon properties, upgrades, etc are mined by users (AFAIK), I understand that FromSoft doesn't want to take away from a sense of experimentation and mystery. The problem I have is that if soul memory is going to limit my multiplayer experience (a source of souls and fun... yes that old dead horse) and if I don't have an indefinite source of souls, experimentation is risky. I wonder if they could have tightened up the soul economy and made armor more meaningful if the player didn't need to experiment, depend on the internet, and use spreadsheets in order to make good gear decisions. | Any good early game weapons for faith/int builds? Posted: 12 Aug 2020 01:04 PM PDT Looking for weapons for a friend, we cooperated, and he started as a sorcerer, but he converted into a healer support with heide sword, dmg spells and medium armor. This build is for coop only, and so far I was taking the role of melee tank, with medium armour (higher def than him, more hp) and heavy hitter (fire sword+3 longsword +3 dual wield, +1 rapier and a morning star for strike). He is planning on working with his current plan, but he could use more stuff. Since we are early game, I started looking for good weapons. So far the Heide sword would be fine, and then an infused longsword or rapier. His main stats are int and faith, his dex and str are low. Any suggestions please. Thanks! [link] [comments] |

| PVP seems very hackable right now Posted: 12 Aug 2020 12:54 PM PDT Just had two opponents in SOTFS, BoB duel arena instantly heal (no noise, no animation, their health bar just went up to full), and I think I annoyed one enough that he did something that crashed my window. It seems like there was a bit of a delay of their character not moving much when they healed, so likely they're using another program or something to trigger it? Restart DARK SOULS II, or wait one hour and try again." And then the standard message you get when it starts you in offline mode. Are the servers down, or is this a seperate issue? I was fighting him for 3 times using a Rapier and lost and now in my fourth try, he glitched out and didn't go to his second phase! He was fighting me with his longsword and ultra greatsword until the near end of his health and I got him! BTW, this was my first ever time playing Dark Souls 2 with the DLCs. It took me 6-7 tries (4 tries with rapier) and now I did it! I was initially playing as a Hex and Dark Scythe character (played DS1 multiple times as melee so why not?) And I had no trouble draining boss health with Dark Orbs until I met him. So I did what was what they call the filthy casual move, I went ahead and searched "Best weapon for Fume Knight" and came to the conclusion that it was Rapier, so I went to the old woman in Things Betwixt, reallocated my points from INT and FTH to STR and END, upgraded my Rapier to +10 and won in my fourth try (definitely cuz of the glitch lol) Has this happened to anyone else?
