Managed to keep one of the Frog Knights alive for the whole Ivory King fight

Pretty proud of myself for being able to do this. Screenshots a bit garbo but still, I think it's cool.

Shout out to my boy Hephaestus.

    I think Forlorn deserves better

    Posted: 14 Aug 2020 07:53 PM PDT

I loved that Forlorn concept, the way he's invading us just like a dark spirit and to be honest; as DS2 SotFS is my first souls-game, Forlorn is my very first impression of this game, like: "Oh shiet this guy at the trailer is so Grim" to the point that I want him to be the final boss and I didn't know most of that not until I searched who's the guy in wallpaper/steam trailer because of that lingering curiousity on who's that reaper-themed guy and thought that he might be the final boss of the game but no, I've been killing him again and again without knowing. So maybe, I thought he deserves better (not asking for a remake though), like more taller maybe Pursuer/Ornstein type of tall, maybe more longer striped cape (and again, just like the one on wallpapers and trailer), maybe he's just scarily walks around approaching you like Vendrick (but also runs when you're trying to escape from him) and maybe he have a huge variety of moves that isn't available to us (when Forlorn items is bought) (or maybe I just want him to be a boss lmao). And yup, I also have died, hollowed and corrupted by his hand so many times but I just feel like he doesn't have that factor that makes you say: "damn, I dont wanna face that guy again" just like that Fume knight factor. DS2:SotFS is a great game nevertheless.

    The No Death Run

    Posted: 15 Aug 2020 09:12 AM PDT

I've got a lot of hours and a lot of success in all the Souls games but never tried that flawless run. I saw a post about one of you completing it a few days back so I decided to give it shot!

The current plan is sorcery-ish build, plenty of poison arrows, no summons.

Made it to the Ruin Sentinels with ease, I fear no enemy, only gravity.

Updates will come if anyone desires.

Ds2 has very satisfying health bars

    Posted: 15 Aug 2020 10:19 AM PDT

I feel like ds2 has the most satisfying health bars and hits when it comes to bosses. Obliterating a boss with Richards rapier makes you feel like a god.

    I finally did it

A month later, I killed the Duke's Dear.

On my first attempt too! I held a torch the entire time for obvious reasons, but I did it nonetheless!

    Any weapon/gear suggestions for a Hex/Melee build?

    Posted: 15 Aug 2020 01:41 PM PDT

I'm trying out a new build in the game and I've never done a caster build of any kind in the game(s). I have a Sunset staff but I'm having trouble with a companion weapon that has good damage and a good moveset and I have no idea what kind of gear is best (have the hexer gear from the chair guy by Huntsmans copse). Any tips are appreciated!

    NG+++ etc

    Posted: 15 Aug 2020 12:52 PM PDT

I recently did a run right through to NG+6 on DS1. It was a total blast. I used dex / faith and was able to use a different main weapon for each cycle which kept it fresh.

I was thinking or trying the same for DS2 where I have never been into NG+. Anyone any advice on strong build options or ways to keep it fresh for each run?

    I happen to only have a PS3...

    Posted: 15 Aug 2020 12:10 PM PDT

With that in mind know that I don't care for getting a new system, but I was wondering, since the PS3 servers in DS2 are pretty popping still does anyone here play on PS3? I've got a fair squad but they don't play any souls games except for one of the dudes. I am on Discord and such. I've got two characters. My one is SLM 5 mil or so and the other is like not even 1 mil yet I think but has access to almost all bonfires pre Drangleic Castle.

Just got finished with Blue Smelter, Fume Knight, and Sir Alonne. All I have left is Darklurker, and I am not built for using pyromancies, gonna try fire infused red iron twinblade for the fight.

    Tips for Agility/speed build?

    Posted: 15 Aug 2020 09:12 AM PDT

Hi there guys, I am slowly finishing my strength/greatshield run, so I would like to try a build where I am moving as fast as possible. Which means pumping up Agility (I am not sure how much yet, min. 105), and also I want to powerstance the fastest weapons, any tips what I should try? I mean literally the most attacks/second. Thank you.

How exactly does Reindeer spawning work?

    Posted: 15 Aug 2020 03:09 AM PDT

    Spreadsheet guy here.

I'm gearing up to test Petrified Dragon Bones soon, and to my dismay I noticed Reindeer on the list of enemies that drop them.

Being the kind of person that I am, I intend to farm the bastards for that sweet sweet data.

I'm hoping to get some clarification on how the hell they actually work before I subject myself to farming them though - the fextralife page is more forum then wiki, and I've seen conflicting info elsewhere.

From what I can tell, there are three different areas they spawn in, and they only spawn during blizzards.

    What I need to know:

    • How many spawn total?

    • Will they all spawn if you stay in one area?

    • Is there a cap on how many can be alive at once?

    • What's the most painless way to kill them?

    • Most importantly, can anyone confirm the PDB drop? Drop confirmed courtesy of u/Ardiffaz

If you have answers, or even just advice on fighting them, please do chime in.

    Thanks!

    Messages blocking illusionary walls

Ok so they may not even be walls but I've tried to use the walls but I can't cause of messages infront of them so I'm wondering if I'm just unlucky and they're all actual walls or it is actually blocking me from using them

Is it still viable to play Fashion Souls?

    Posted: 15 Aug 2020 07:54 AM PDT

I just started playing SotFS, but other than that, I've only ever played DS3. I know that in DS3 the armor protection is kinda negligible so, of course, Fashion Souls is a thing. Is it the same case with SotFS? Or do the resistances/protections matter more?

    Help for a new sorcerer

    Posted: 15 Aug 2020 08:36 AM PDT

I'm pretty new to the game(but not the series, I've 100%ed ds1/3) and I started a sorcery build, my question is where should I go first, are there any items or weapons I should try and go for first? What area would be best for me to clear first, in general just what is a good route to take from the beginning

    Posted: 15 Aug 2020 07:24 AM PDT

I've really come to love playing DS2, but there is one thing that really irks me

    Posted: 15 Aug 2020 11:07 AM PDT

There's honestly a few things, but they all come together into one very important and prominent point.

DS2 doesn't really motivate you to play it again once you're done

Now, granted, I'm not finished yet. I have a few more areas to clear until it's time to do the DLC. I've beaten it before, but that was years ago and I'm revisiting just because it's been so long and I've only played half of a DLC. I want to experience everything this game has to offer, so I'm here for round two.

However, as I'm playing through the game I eventually reach an area where it's just so frustrating and grueling an experience that my motivation for beating the boss is just to be able to put that area behind me and not have to make that run again. Obviously, this doesn't really bode well for upcoming playthroughs because when I think about a NG+ run or a run with a new character, all I have to do is reflect on Iron Keep, Black Gulch, or Shrine of Amana - just to name a few - to realize I do not want to revisit this game once I am done.

Pair this with very forgettable and often painfully easy or at least plain (in both fight design and actual design) boss fights and it makes me wonder what incentive there is to come back to this game after completing it.

Admittedly, all the Soulsborne titles have areas like these, but I don't feel like any of them waste your time quite as much as the ones in DS2. In Iron Keep, you step foot into an area and you just watch as Alonne Knights sprint full speed from the opposite end of the map just to mess with you - and you've got to go through what... like seven or eight of them before Smelter Demon?

Black Gulch has a second bonfire, sure, but let's be real - smacking every single statue until you get to that point is unbelievably tedious and sometimes the animation puts you in the way of being poisoned anyway. Doesn't seem like you can really just run past them without getting poisoned, either.

It's not that the areas are difficult, it's just that they waste your time and present bigger challenges than the actual bosses themselves who end up being quite mundane. Well, except Smelter Demon who is rather interesting with his somewhat elaborate moveset, but tagging that at the end of Iron Keep is rather cruel because it means the odds of being caught off guard and wrecked by a move you didn't expect are higher and then you're back to slowly making your way through the Alonne Knights again.

I am deeply loving my experience with this game, but every now and then you reach an area that is just an absolute slog to work through and it puts me in a weird place where I am very happy to be completing this game one more time, but hoping to never return to it again once I'm done.

What are your thoughts on this?

My Week with the Burnt Ivory King

    Posted: 15 Aug 2020 10:43 AM PDT

Let's be honest, I have no idea why I did this. I don't even want the armour. Finally meeting Alsanna was cool, though.

So, I needed 15 sunlight medals and 50 loyce souls. This took me a whole week and would have taken longer if it wasn't for one guy who actually BSCed a bunch of us and feather himself out. Think I once got summoned into NG+. Went from SL199 to SL218 before I finally went and bought the Agape Ring. RIP my soul memory. Basically, I put my summon sign down and went and did something else in the same room. Most days I only actually fought him three times.

Highlights: * My very last fight that got me over 50 loyce souls also killed the boss with a guy who'd summoned me right at the start of the week. I think he was deliberately dying to reset the fight. That or he was having a really bad time. * I managed to defeat the boss once with a host that hadn't picked up all of the knights. Or rather, two other player phantoms and the host ganked him while I kept the constant adds off them. Every other time, having two portals open just proved too much.

Overall, though, I love this boss. I love the lore (wait, didn't I already deal with you in the last game?), I love the framing. He's not as hard as Fume or Sir Alonne and I think that's the right choice here. An exemplary ultimate fight in a game.

Final question: do I get to keep the Loyce souls in NG+?
