My first attempt at pixel art inspired by Dark Souls :)

    It's been 6 months, 5 characters, and 10 playthroughs...

And the part I dread most is still the Anor Londo rafters bonanza - guaranteed to die at least once every single time.

Pro tip for those who suck at parrying (even for mouse and keyboard users)

    Posted: 10 Jun 2020 08:21 PM PDT

For controller users: Instead of watching the weapon or the arm, watch the hand of the opponent. When the hand comes forward then press the parry button, position yourself so you're directly ahead of him then attack for a riposte.

For Keyboard and Mouse Users: Hold right click to be in a blocking position. Watch the opponent's hand, not his arm or his weapon. When the hand comes forward, press shift while holding the block button to parry. Position yourself so you're directly ahead of him very quickly and attack to riposte.

EDIT: For greatest ease, turn off motion blur!!

    Manus: kind of cuddly/cute?

The longer I fight him the more he looks like a cute hedgehog or something, maybe I've cracked me head and gone hollow? Vee hee hee.

Just solod the game for the first time

    Posted: 10 Jun 2020 06:40 PM PDT

And as many times as I cursed, shut off the Xbox in a rage and whisper yelled about how much I hate this god damn game..

I gotta say it's an amazing piece of work/art(?) and it's a masterpiece I'll never forget. What a journey.

I wiggle my weapons at you all 👋🏼

After a few months of playing the game on and off I have finally beaten Dark Souls 1!

    Posted: 10 Jun 2020 10:50 PM PDT

I must say that this has been a really fun experience especially since I was coming into this game off of bloodborne.

Definitely enjoyed all the challenges that the bosses provided and I even surprised myself when I beat some of the harder bosses in a couple of attempts. Personally my most triumphant moment of the game came from when I finally managed to get the Obsidian Greatsword off of Kalameet after a few hours of trying, giving up on trying and then saying fuck it and going for the tail when he was about 25% hp.

Over all the areas and aesthetics of the game was just fantastic and the little challenges preceding each boss was always rewarding when I overcame them (Anor London and Blight Town not included)

Overall I absolutely loved the game but now it's time to move on to DS2!

I wish I could play Dark Souls with virgin eyes

    Posted: 10 Jun 2020 07:25 AM PDT

Dark Souls has completely changed the way I played games entirely. When I pop in a new game I try to play with higher difficulty, pay more attention to environmental story telling, and dive deeper into its lore. But I wish I could just wipe my memory of the game just to get that excitement of exploration again. The feeling of nervousness not knowing what's around the corner, and the euphoria of defeating a difficult boss for the first time. It's truly a once in a lifetime experience.

The sculpture of the Hollow in polymer clay

    Posted: 10 Jun 2020 04:13 PM PDT

    Hello everyone,

some time ago I passed the Dark Souls series and there was not a single moment of doubts that I would create a figure of some character from that. And by all means more than just one. The characters of the series are of such different kinds but almost all of them memorable. That was not an easy choice.

Eventually, the help came. I remembered one specific item from Dark Souls 2 - the "Hollow Skin" hood. Not exactly was the item itself that helped but its description that said: "Whoever created this was surely deeply respectful of those lost to Hollowing." And that touched something within me. It was so true. There was so little respect to them. They are the easiest enemies, nameless and mindless. Sometimes it feels as if they are just sources for farming. And at the same time, the whole story is built around the Curse of Undeath.

To restore justice, this sculpture was created.

The photo of it is here

I used a torch hollow from the DS1 as a model. As a material, I used Premo Sculpey polymer clay of different colours. The basic colours of the figure (skin tone, clothes and torch's handle) are mixtures of different clay colours. The eyes, spots on the body and the flame are painted with acrylic paints. The standing imitates streets of the Undead Burg.

For the photo, there was also used some natural materials (dried mosses and lichens, shungite and bumps from the Republic of Karelia - my trophies from the trip there) and houseplants (some of which are, unfortunately, dried).

I'm trying to kill the bell gargoyles but How do You get past the mob of like 15 of the enemies that just spam combo you. those enemies are more rage inducing then the gargoyles that I've only been able to attempt like 5 times.

Did I screw up my character? Should I restart?

    Posted: 10 Jun 2020 07:49 PM PDT

Edit: thanks for all the input guys! I've decided to restart as I'm not too far and it's the best bet for the playstyle I'm going for.

Just past the gargoyle boss, only ever played DS3.

Just finding out that for my pyromancer build Int and Faith are pretty much useless in this game.

I'm level 21 and have 16 Int and 10 faith. Is this going to really hurt me? Or can I keep playing and make better decisions going forward?

I'm really not that good at these games so I'm not trying to self punish and make this miserable.

    Can you kick on demand?

    Posted: 11 Jun 2020 01:56 AM PDT

Always had trouble kicking on DS1 - I can do it slow no pressure, but in melee on an XBox controller it sometimes comes out as an R1 attack. Because I don't want to fluff it and get poise stabbed, I tend to avoid doing it, which means I've never sorted it out.

Anyone else find this - or is it something you can do without even thinking about it? I get that it can be a v powerful tool in pvp so would be good to get it dialled in.

Dark Souls 1 boss survey (your favourite, least favourite, easiest and hardest?)

    Posted: 10 Jun 2020 03:45 PM PDT

    https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1iksMNhO5FVmbCW_gdel9Cl7EyFuuBrFPaP3vSTzXrGQ/edit

I'll post the results in 2/3 days.

    Oh and here's my list.

My favourite is Manus he has such a varied moveset and some attacks have follow ups and sometimes they don't, I love that. Also i love it how he gains new attacks when you lower his health, his dark spells are satisfying to dodge for some reason. The game also rewards you if you discovered the pendant in oolacile that allows you to shield his dark spells rather than dodge them.

My least favourite is bed of chaos because of the extremely long run back, the insta kill garbage and the terrible hitboxes, you know the bed of chaos may of not been so bad if you could actually dodge and Iframe her attacks but nope lets make the one platforming boss have terrible hitboxes. Only redeeming factors are the don't roots respawn after you die and the little platforms can shield you from the Beds swipes (idk if they're even intentional however). Just such a horrible boss.

My hardest has to be Artorias, Kalameet is close but my experience with Midir and Sinh makes him easier. Artorias has the most weird moveset i've ever seen, some of his attacks are super delayed and others are really quick. Also I think his ai is designed to attack you when you try to heal so healing windows are very limited. He's the only boss that fucks me up still to this day.

My easiest is of course Pinwheel, you just go in hit him about 6 times and he just dies lol. Paladin Leeroy can 2 shot him so i don't understand what from were trying to do with him lol.

    Newbie Help

    Posted: 10 Jun 2020 09:13 PM PDT

Just stared DS Remastered and I gotta say I'm having a blast with this even though I am struggling lol. I'm running a Sorc and slightly regretting it because I keep running out of Uses for my spells. Is there a way to increase them?

Also, aside from Intelligence, which other stats should I be using?

    Appreciate the help yall!

What are your best gank spank stories

    Posted: 11 Jun 2020 04:01 AM PDT

I'll start with mine, I go in oolacile with dark wood grain ring equipped, ready to book it, and there is a fuck ton of items on the floor. Instead of picking them up and dying, I ninja flip away. They dont have the elevator activated so I planned to circle around the level and go back around and get all the items. As opposed to running down the thin staircase, I take the side route. And jump through a not so well known window onto wooden planks leading to the same area. The way the first phantom died was he tried following me and ended up falling off As I got in the palace looking area i go up the staircase to my right and camp around waiting for them on the ceiling (thank god they didnt see me) . At this point I sprint back to the starting area with the items and it turns out, that was a good idea, because among the feather arrows and dung pies, there were 8 titanite slabs. I go hide before they arrive because at this point the elevator is now active. As soon as I arrived, one of them saw me and I killed them quickly. The next one did the same and I killed him. After they were both gone I could finally kill the owner, who died in 2 hits. There were a couple other invaders but they died almost instantly.

What game should I play next?

    Posted: 10 Jun 2020 09:55 PM PDT

Alright, I finally beat the DLC bosses and they were amazing. Hard as fuck but I got through it. Now I just need one last boss to finish the game. I'm sad I'm close to finishing it so which one should I play next? Dark Souls 2 or Bloodborne? I've already played Sekiro and Dark Souls 3. If you have other similar Souls-like game recommendations then that would be great too.

I don't know if I was just SUPER over levelled in the base game, but NG+ seems to be going by stupidly fast. I've already beaten two of the lords. Anyone else think this?
