Welcome to the weekly Dark Souls mod announcement and discussion thread!

Beware! Use of mods whilst connected to the internet can cause you to get banned from online play!

For more information, or to continue the discussion visit /r/ModSouls

Using mods (PC only!) to enhance or add new content to the Souls games is great fun! It is important, however, to understand that mods are against From's EULA/ToS, so there is a great risk of being banned when using them due to From's anti-cheat--which is deployed in most versions of the Souls games.

Versions of the games where modding is safe due to no anti-cheat:

Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition

Versions of the games where modding carries a very high risk of being banned:

    Dark Souls: Remastered

    Dark Souls II

Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin

    Dark Souls III

    Our recommendations for safe modding

*This advice is intended for first-time or relatively inexperienced modders who want to get into modding without risking a ban on their main Steam account.

    Basic Steps:

    Make a separate Steam account

Use Steam's Family Sharing feature to provide your new account with access to your main Steam account's game library.

Install games to be used with the new account in a separate directory.

Once you've found your mods be sure to read (and follow) the mod author's instructions carefully prior to installation.

Set Steam to "off line" mode.

Install the mods and perform any necessary setup.

Enjoy the fun and interesting experiences offered by mods!

Be sure to remove all file components of the mod before going back online!

[NSFW] Friend just bought DS1 Remastered on NSwitch to help with the isolation/boredom. He finally understands this game.

Some of you said that Manus is easier than Artorias. Well, it took me 8 hours and 136 tries to take him down [video montage inside]

    Posted: 22 Mar 2020 10:22 AM PDT

That is 8 hours of gametime, I was getting sleep deprived around try #110 so I had some sleep and tried again.

The vid is a montage of most of my tries (mostly only the deaths, and some bits are kept from the interesting ones, where I got very close to killing him (like try 60))

The final try is kept in its entirety, begins at 04:04 mark.

    I lost 1 million souls

    Posted: 22 Mar 2020 04:30 PM PDT

I just finished dark souls 1 and I'd like to rank its bosses in difficulty

    Posted: 22 Mar 2020 10:43 PM PDT

Difficulty: 26.taurus demon: he jumped off the side so it wasn't even a fight. 25.pinwheel: not much to say it's pinwheel. 24.moonlight butterfly: I almost died because my mouse unplugged. 23.asylum demon: at least it doesn't have aoes. 22.crossbreed priscilla: I almost killed her first try but my laptop died and I had to try again. 21.sanctuary guardian: I mostly went in as agressive as I could at it helped me a lot in the fight. 20.seath the scaleless: I died from curse and had to go all the way over and get purging stones. 19.stray demon: at least he's not on fire 18.demon firesafe: at least he's the last one 17.dark sun gwyndolin: I got mad at tried rushing him and died. 16.great grey wolf sif: I'm really mad I had to win this fight 15:iron golem: I died 4 times each to him grabbing me and throwing me off the map. 14.the bed of chaos: fuck this bitch 13.gaping dragon: I got stuck for awhile until I kindled the bonfire and it really helped with the fight 12.centipede demon: I had a serious problem of getting stuck against the wall 11. Ceaseless discharge: I had a lot of trouble with dodging his attacks at maintaining stamina 10.capra demon: I struggled with the dogs more than the boss 9. Chaos witch quelaag: I got serious destroyed by the aoes and fire sword 8.bell gargoyles: this was the boss that probably took me the most attempts the whole run 7. Ornstien and smough: my final attempt was the first time I reached their second Faze. 6.four kings: needing to kill the kings as fast as possible made me mess up often. 5. Gwyn Lord of cinder. The ability to parry him made this fight far easier for me 4.nito: having to manage the skeletons and nito made me run around the area often and led me to get killed by the magic 3.Artorias: his fast combos and buffs where a serious challenge and he is also my favorite boss in the game 2.Manus father of the abyss: his high damage and magic often less me stagerlocked and killed me. 1. Black dragon kalameet: fuck his fire breath and charging attack

Gaping Dragon did not attack me

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 04:14 AM PDT

I'm on my second play through of DS1, and i just finished the gaping dragon. I'm not sure if this is a bug with the remastered edition, but when i played the original game,i remember this boss taking me a few turns at least.

In short, the boss seemed to outright neglect me, it never seemed to focus on me or target me. It just did its "rise into the air and slam down" move, i would run in behind it and get some hits in, and then it would do its charge attack into the direction it was facing (not at me), and rinse and repeat. Has anyone experienced this?

RAGE-QUITTED 69 TIMES BEFORE ACTUALLY GIVING IT A TRY.

    Posted: 22 Mar 2020 07:47 PM PDT

Bruh. I had been shitting on the souls fandom for quite some time for just being an elite class of gamers who had a shit ton of time to learn the moves of bosses just to beat them. My friends have made me try this game like 10 times and I always used to quit right before the Taurus demon but this time I promised I'll try my best and play till the end. My God, I wont lie, this game is fun. Killed the taurus demon on my first try. Killed the Gargoyles in 3 tries but that Capra Demon pissed me off. Took me alot of time to learn his move set and kill the dogs and focus on him. Died countless times but in the end, the last blow was satisfying. I've already killed the gaping demon on my first try aswell and just hope I don't lose my shit till the end. Any guide or tip is welcome.

I just found out the 4 kings have legs and there are actually 5...

    Posted: 22 Mar 2020 11:16 PM PDT

I'm sure this is old news but... I was recently fighting the 4 Kings and I realized they have long lanky legs that I never noticed before... also if you linger too long on the 4th one a 5th spawns in... I'm sure this was just me being stupid but this is my 4th playthrough and the only time I've seen this

JUST BEAT ORNSTEIN AND SMOUGH FOR THE 1st TIME AND HOLY SH1T

    Posted: 22 Mar 2020 01:26 PM PDT

So I am currently on my first playthrough of the game, figured I had the time with all that is going on, and after countless attempts I've finally beaten them Solo (I had no humanity left :( ) and I feel soooooo relieved. I have to say that the game definetily lives up to hype and that I am looking forward for the rest of the game and the rest of the series.

Dual Wielding Velkas Rapier on the right hand and Gold Tracer on off-hand is the most fun I had dual wielding a weapon.

    Posted: 22 Mar 2020 10:27 PM PDT

The Gold tracer has a phenomenal moveset but in small corridors, the sword can get stuck. This is where the rapier comes in you can just poke.

They cover each others weaknesses perfectly.

I have a DEX + MAGIC build the Gold tracer adds bleed to the mix and the rapiers add a quick poke meaning both animals and knights could be taken out rather easily.

    DS Noob

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 03:59 AM PDT

    Hadn't played a FromSoft game before 2020.

Played and Platinum'd Sekiro in 39 days from Jan to Feb.

Tried to play other games (like RDR2) for a week. Couldn't.

Played and Platinum'd Bloodborne in 25 days from Feb to March.

Tried to play other games for a few days. Couldn't.

Bought Dark Souls Remastered yesterday. Just like the others I intend on completing and Platinum'ing it.

I've just been picked up by the big crow and dropped off in the land of the undead I think. Struggling with those early skeletons as much as I struggled with that first road full of enemies in Bloodborne. Combat feels a lot more deliberate in this game.

Any tips for a Noob? What to invest souls in? Ways that this game is different to Bloodborne that will help me make progress? Just any general advice would be appreciated.

To clarify, I understand the general ethos of FromSoft's game design and am ok with dying a lot. I mean is there anything more nuanced I should note that would make the game click for me.

    Thanks in advance all!

    Dark Souls/Animal Crossing cross over

    Posted: 22 Mar 2020 09:25 PM PDT

My husband recently had emergency appendectomy surgery. He's high on pain medication and came up with this.

Tom Nook is a Dark Souls boss and he has a giant bell. He starts with "you owe me 49,000 bells." Every time he catches you he puts it over your head and rings it three times. BONG BONG BONG! He says "you owe me 48,997 now" each time he catches you it goes down by three. You have to heal because it deals massive damage. Once you get to zero it gives you a platinum achievement called "Hells Bells".

If you stay there too long he re-spawns and it gives you another achievement called "He's coming for you". Then when you play new game plus he chases you with his bell throughout the game and you have 49,000 bongs till you beat it.
