Unpopular opinion: I love the gutter.

    Posted: 10 Dec 2019 02:21 AM PST

I feels so cool to go trough and explore it. Whenever im going to the gutter it doesn't feel like im going to a big battle, it feels like im going to a huge cave to uncover it's secrets. Most of the enemies die in 1 or 2 hits so i can just take my time and light up the area. The lighting system is brilliant! It tracks your progress trough the area and it feels so satisfying to light up every torch.

Unpopular Opinion: ADP is a great mechanic

    Posted: 10 Dec 2019 07:28 AM PST

Linking i-frames to weight has always bothered me in the other titles, especially because of fashion souls. Also it gives shield users an actual option to opt out of dodging altogether and invest in more stamina for example. It just adds more build variety and I love it. You can also not level it and make a challenge run out of it!

I just beat the Fume Knight and it was amazing.

    Posted: 10 Dec 2019 12:07 PM PST

I was somewhat aware of the infamous Fume Knight's reputation beforehand, but I didn't know anything else about him and I'm so glad I didn't. Not since Ornstein & Smough and *Bloodborne Spoiler have I enjoyed a boss encounter so much. Every single time I died (which was plenty, trust me) I realized it was my mistake and I loved it. I just never felt like I was having to deal with bullshit mechanics (ahem Royal Rat Jerkbutt) or anything like that. He just dethroned the Ruin Sentinels as my favorite Dark Souls 2 boss for sure.

The problem is it's been kind of downhill from there. Since then, I tried the boss fight with the Havel knight, Alva dual wielder, and Archer, and while the fight itself seemed fun, the run back was just so frustrating that I gave up. I also attempted the Burnt Ivory King but it was more of the same. The fact that I have to kill all those Pyro knights beforehand just killed any excitement I had for the actual boss fight. Oddly, the game saw fit to supply me with a pair of NPC knights for assistance, but they didn't really do much.

I already have two crowns but I'm tempted to just keep on trucking through Drangleic Castle. I don't know.

Over 10 playthroughs. Still manage to get lost.

    Posted: 10 Dec 2019 09:49 AM PST

As the title suggests. I still get lost.

Mind you I have GREAT map awareness, situational awareness. I can recall locations and maps on games back from PS1 days. Spyro maps I have memorized, metal gear I could walk you through without ever seeing the screen.

This game. I love because I stay lost. It feels like I have to explore sections of the map like I've ever been to them before.

For example. Ornifex. No clue. No idea how to get to her when I start NG+

Straid? I know the castle. I just end up searching until I run into him.

Other games I have maps memorized immediately. Death Stranding, I know mountains and rivers. Alcoves and slippery slopes located and memorized. Metal gear 3 I can navigate the entire underground section in the dark perfectly. Battlefield bad company 2, bf 3 and 4 maps memorized. Skyrim. Memorized.

For whatever damn reason DS2 keeps me lost and I love it.

I find chests that I know I found before but I'm like a kid on Christmas every time lol.

    Weird SoTFS glitch

    Posted: 10 Dec 2019 09:09 AM PST

So I was modding my game. I've done a few Rando Item runs and enjoyed it amd thought I should throw on an enemy one.

I followed the instructions, but it basically just fried my game. I wasn't too upset, I just wiped it from my computer than reinstalled it and now it's fine, except for one weird issue:

I 100% have SoTFS edition. In previous runs, I had the updated enemy placement and all those other changes. After reinstalling though, I don't see the new enemy placements. I'm not sure what exactly happened.

I mean, I cleared all local files from the messed up version, so nothing should be left from the enemy mod, and I'm not even sure that that's the issue.

The enemy placement is basically regular DS2, when it wasn't before.

Does anyone know what to do?

About to lose my mind. Please Help. Or, what weapon should I be using for the DLC?

    Posted: 10 Dec 2019 12:32 PM PST

So I've made it all the way through the base game and Sunken King without any magic or pyro. Now I've made it all the way through Old Iron King up to the bosses and I'm stuck. Specifically trying to take down blue Smelter. I haven't given too many tries Sir Alonne or Fume Knight yet. But I've been stuck on this freaking blue Smelter for months. I'll pick up the game give it 20 or so tries get discouraged and quit for a while, rinse and repeat. I honestly want to claw my eyeballs out every time see YOU DIED at this point.

So far I've been using Greatsword infused with lightning and a shield, fully upgraded of course. Strength build so it's got good damage scaling. I've also been using the mace, also fully upgraded, also with shield. Sunken was very difficult for me with either of these combos, but I eventually managed. Then I saw a post on here about how good the Craftsman's Hammer was so I thought I'd give that a try. So now I'm rolling with my mace in the left hand and the CH in the right, and power stance of course.

I feel like I'm getting closer to defeating him now than before, but I still feel like I'm not doing the damage I should be. At this point in DS1, Demon's Souls and Bloodborne, I was wrecking everything in my path no trouble so I feel like there has to be something I'm missing. Is it just that I should give in and use magic? Because I don't know how much use that would be against Smelty anyway.

Help me reddit, you're my only hope.

I learned to love Dark Souls 2 by being less stubborn

    Posted: 09 Dec 2019 08:24 PM PST

In every dark souls since DeS, I've used only physical weapons. I was always anti-magic. I like knights in armor, not wizards in snuggies. But then, in Ds3, I decided to try out a dark claymore/warpick build, since my Elite Knight armor was so light and allowed for something like that. I loved it. Did much MUCH more damage than quality, and felt satisfying to invest spare points into something other than vit (that I didnt even use with my fashion souls outfits). I felt.. optimized. The magic was badass and fun.

Then I remembered; Ds2 has my favorite atmosphere, graphics, soundtrack, and aesthetic of the series, but I couldn't get into the combat. I decided to replay it. I check out my past 3 characters, and uh-oh; Quality build with Falchion, Quality with Mace, and Quality with greatsword. What the hell was I thinking? No wonder why the game was so infuriating. Not a single crowd-control weapon, either.

I created an entirely new character from the beginning, except made a dark build alike ds3; 30/30 int and faith, with an dark infused Longsword, and dark orbs/dark weapon attuned. It's been a blast. I've gotten used to the slower speed of the game, which is a lot more immersive than roll-to-win ds3. You actually feel like you're in armor rather than leather.

And all the armors are so gorgeous! Especially my elite knight outfit, those reflection maps are stunning. And the BEST part about the burden system is the effect it has on stamina. I can stop at any increment I want. 30, 40, 50, they all have an impact on stamina. In Ds3, it's a waste if you have anything under 29.9% or 69.9% weight because those are the only breakpoints, really.

Soul memory really isn't that strict or an issue to me. (fully upgraded 3 weapons, bought entire Elite Knight and Alva sets, lost 50k souls at one point, I'm at level 150, yet my soul memory is only at 1,650,000~.) Idk why people complain unless they lose hundreds of thousands at a time, or just buy everything.

Tl;Dr: I always knew I loved the feeling Ds2 evoked, the magical soundtrack, the 60fps with amazing textures, the realistic animations (ds1/3 has too much armor squash n' stretch for me). It's by far the most immersive souls game, and now that I've diverted from pure physical builds and actually know how to smartly manage stamina, it's my most favorite Soulsborne title.

    A little bit lost...kinda...

    Posted: 10 Dec 2019 01:44 PM PST

    Hey guys.

I just want to check on something, because it's a bit...weird. I'm in the middle of my first DS2 run (so no spoilers please ^^). So far i killed the Lost Sinner and Freya (two of the "big" ones i guess because there was a special bonfire after them) and lots of minor bosses, last one being the Executioners Chariot (which is a really cool boss fight imho!).

My options to progress are kinda limited. After the Chariot fight i could open the Shrine of Winter and get to Drangleic Castle and made it to the first bonfire, although the woman at the beginning said i wasn't ready.

Other options would be two doors that say i need to produce the symbol of the king (one in Forest of Giants, one in Shaded Woods). I guess i need to kill more bosses and somehow get this symbol, so i guess it's for later.

Now the jist of this thread. Very early in the game i got the cat ring and dropped down the hole in Majula, getting the bonfire to this grave area. Also i read if you drop down further you get to the gutter(?) or so. BUT, i also read that normally a NPC makes a ladder for you to get down.

So, i COULD teleport to this bonfire in the hole and progress to the grave area etc, but let's say that wasn't an option. How is it intended to progress as a new player in my situation?

I hope this isn't too confusing and at least one or two people know what i mean :D

Hi I'm currently SL125-130 and I'm at undead crypt but I'm currently doing the Old Iron King DLC. Currently my adaptability is at 10. Should I upgrade the stat even more or is it enough right now?

    Early days struggles

    Posted: 10 Dec 2019 12:07 PM PST

Just reminiscing, this was my first souls game, and due to that I think probably my favorite (unpopular opinion, I know). Since it was my first, I struggled. Hard. I spend hours on the Last Giant. Finally beating him only to face an immediate wall again on the Pursuer. I didn't know about the mounted crossbow so I just fought him one on one. Then again on the Ruin Sentinels. Holy shit tho the Last Sinner made me rage quit for a while. Now playing though again it's all so trivial compared to the first time. Still great and nostalgic but now that I'm 'got gud' the struggle will never be the same.

What changes after climbing into the coffin?

    Posted: 10 Dec 2019 10:21 AM PST

I just returned to Things Betwixt to get past the statue, eventually, I got to the spot with the two rhino things and the Persuer. After that part, I climbed into the coffin there, when I left, the game said 'something about your being has changed.' but I don't know what has changed, does anyone know?

    Pvp/invasions

    Posted: 10 Dec 2019 01:59 AM PST

So I just recently got this on steam, to complete my collection, after playing it initially on 360 years ago for like an hour and quitting. It's still not my absolute favorite but I'm enjoying it more than I did and more than expected. I was wondering is the pvp scene still active on steam? I know ds3 is still fairly active for pvp and I love that. Just curious if I should have gotten in for ps4 instead just for community size
