Challenger's Depths - A Soulsborne discord server for challenge runs!

    Posted: 08 Mar 2021 05:21 PM PST

Hi everyone! We have recently added another discord server to our recommended servers list! The server was started in late 2020 by /u/hungryhyena78 (you may have heard about it before...) - That server is:

    Challenger's Depths

    • This is a multi-game server dedicated to the entire lineup of Soulsborne games, including Sekiro

    • Commited to challenge runs amongst the games, Challenger's Depths gives each member of the server the ability to make their own challenges for all members to play.

    • Make your own challenges, play others' challenges, and see how you stack up against the other users in the server's leaderboards!

    • This server is suitable for all skill levels; whether you are a novice to the Soulsborne games and just starting out your adventures, or an experienced master of the series looking for a challenge that pushes your ability further! The server certainly has challenges that you will enjoy.

Interested? You can join by following this link!

The community leaders of this server put a lot of effort into keeping the place up to a great quality, with things like their own website, and an introduction video that gives an in-depth walkthrough of the server and its functionality!

I don't always back roll of off cliffs. But when I do, I lose hundreds of thousands of souls.

    Fuck my life.

Where is the Grass Crest Shield from?

    Posted: 08 Mar 2021 11:03 AM PST

I always paired the three Crest Shields together, ( Grass Crest, Dragon Crest, and Crest Shield) But the item descriptions actually say that the Grass Crest Shield is from unknown origins, unlike the other two that are from Astora.

    Am I just bad

    Posted: 08 Mar 2021 08:44 AM PST

Hey guys recently I'm on my first play through of dark souls and am below average skill level. Despite easily beating some harder bosses I recently came to Arotrias. I just got the lord vessel and have 14 plus scythe and 11 plus pyro. Vitality 24 dex 25 endurance 24 and I am just getting my ass whooped by Arotrias. After like 30 tries I haven't even gotten him to 1/3 of his health. Is there any shame in maybe taking on nito and seath before I do the DLC. Or should I just get gud.

In universe reactions to SL1 runs?

    Posted: 08 Mar 2021 07:05 PM PST

So I just beat Dark Souls 1 for the first time and got a little obsessed with the lore. I have a million questions, but for right now I want to start with a simple one. How do you think characters in universe would react to a soul level 1 run?

I ask because the entire point of the story is to become powerful so that sacrificing your soul would fuel the flame for a long time, but with a SL1 character, your soul isn't powerful, you're just very skilled. Would that not be sufficient fuel for the flame? How would Gwyn react to a regular human defeating him without ever growing their own soul? I imagine the Crestfallen Warrior would be even more upset that some regular old dude did that without using the souls he collected and only response is "git gud scrub". Who could blame him for going hollow then?

    Most common noob deaths?

    Posted: 08 Mar 2021 03:19 PM PST

Just started my first blind playthrough of darksouls this week. I feel like I'm slowly but surely dying less often to your standard mobs but there is one mistake I still can't shake off:

I die at least once per session because I forget that I was browsing the menu and leave the menu open, making it impossible for me to put in any combat inputs while the menu is open in the top right. I stroll confidently into combat only to stand there like a ragdoll while I get face-raked to death by undead peons.

I don't really know why this still happens to me.. it should probably be a one and done mistake. But.. Maybe Im too conditioned by other games where if you are in the menu it is a full screen display.

Any other noobs out there that can relate? Any other dumb death habits you would like to share? Someone make me feel better about myself please lol.

(I did just beat Capra demon, so I'm feeling pretty happy overall. My first time walking through that white mist was a moment that I will never forget. "Man Im getting sick of those dogs, hope we are almost done with those. Okay through the mist we go.... YOU DIED)

Primordial Serpents are the TRUE Villains: Change My Mind

    Posted: 08 Mar 2021 08:21 PM PST

I'm not going to go crazy here with item descriptions, lore, etc. The game's been out for a decade.

    Here's the theory:

Kaathe and Frampy work TOGETHER with all the other unnamed serpents you see in the Dark Lord ending of DS1 to rid the world of any being more powerful than themselves.

    Age of Dragons?

*"Hey little guys you see this big fire with cool souls in it? Would be pretty cool to be super powerful..."

    Age of Fire?

Frampt: "Aww hey Gwyn maybe you could light that up with your big bad soul?" \hollows Gwyn**

Frampt: "Yo chosen undead, kill all the other lords, (whose souls state that each THEMSELVES could satiate the Lord Vessel). Nice! Now jump on that big old flame you idiot!

BOOM! All Lords and the Chosen Undead are gone!

Meanwhile if anybody is smart enough to see through that, Kaathe has that base covered.

    Remember Oolacile?

As humanity runs wild, whatever culture embraced the Dark Lord would be swallowed by the Abyss, probably including the DL themselves. The serpents know a being that refused to Link the Fire would be too powerful for them so they agree to "worship" them until the Dark Lord is inevitably killed, hollowed, or supplanted. However in the short run, Kaathe and Frampt's plan have the same goal.

Kill more Bosses, I mean, Kill all the Lords.

Either Chosen Undead kills all the Lords and themselves, or they kill all the Lords and become a being too powerful for the serpents to defeat directly.

Why though if the Cycle continues for eternity?

Maybe they thought the First Flame could be extinguished for good (explaining why they make an appearance in DS3, near the literal end of time), or maybe, "covetous" as they are, their goal could be a new "Age of Dragons". (just one where the dragons have huge chompers, no wings or legs, and silly skin moustaches)

*Conjecture but I think it would make sense for the serpents to guide the initial beings into becoming Lords

    Percentage

    Posted: 08 Mar 2021 06:45 AM PST

Been playing dark souls remastered for weeks now and I have just arrived in Anor Lando, I was wondering how much I played? 15 20 %,? What do you think? Knowing that I have gone everywhere before that point and beaten every boss except the great power...

How the heck do Gravelord Servants get so powerful at such low sl?

    Posted: 08 Mar 2021 07:40 PM PST

There was a Gravelord sign at the Undead Burg, and the Servant had a full dragon body. How is that even possible? How are people that dedicated to getting late game gear to destroy low level players?

    Posted: 09 Mar 2021 12:38 AM PST

Just defeated Artorias (got wrecked multiple times). I gotta say He is by far tge BEST Boss in the game no cap. The whole aura of the fight and the fight itself being so intense just takes the cake for me.

    HERE

Some Dark Souls work that I never finished -originally meant to be published as a 4 panel comic but thinking of dropping a series of still illustrations instead.

Dark Souls III illustrations ft. Big Boy Armour (Winged Knight) and Dancer of the Boreal Valley.
Let me know what you think of more Dark Souls drawings or more video games in general.

If anyone would like to support me, I'd appreciate a look at my instagram account! Thank you, everyone!

    Posted: 09 Mar 2021 03:20 AM PST

So i played dark souls countless hours and i am fairly familiar with the lore. But it just came to my mind, what was the reason for manus to pull myself out of my timeline and bring me into the past? Maybe i have Heard the awnser before but just forgot it🤔 doesnt seem to clever to pull some strong opponents into his World just to fight them🤨

Kinda hard to go to DS3 after DS remastered

    Posted: 09 Mar 2021 02:54 AM PST

I just got DS3 after beating DS1 (remastered, PS4) recently and for some reason DS3 has been feeling hard on my eyes. Not so much graphically but I think it's the frame rate, as from what I understand Ds remastered runs 60 FPS. When I switched back to DSR just now it feels SO much smoother. Has anyone else felt the same way?

How often are Undead Assassins supposed to parry/riposte?

    Posted: 09 Mar 2021 02:26 AM PST

Sorry, new DS player here. I'm making my way to Capra Demon (which is a nightmare all in its own - i know about the cheese but i want to beat him the right way) and i've been introduced to these undead assassin type of mobs. While they are fast, I can easily deal with them for the most part. What really bothers me is their parry/riposte which feels like it has 0 counterplay. And Im always parried quite often. One time one of those guys parried/riposted me 3 times in row which led to my death. Are that moveset that frequent? 'cause the only way out I see is to just time out perfectly and riposte them to not give em a chance lol

    I love this game

    Posted: 08 Mar 2021 08:01 PM PST

But who the fuck thought it was a good idea to put a barrier right before nito even though you can go though all of the tomb of giants and light two bonfires just to be stopped by a wall? I get that it would mess with the progression of the game but you can beat 4 kings just fine without the lordvessel so I don't get why they force you to walk all the way back to firelink instead of just not letting you go into tomb of giants in the first place. I love this game and it has some of the best stuff in the series but Jesus fuck the interconnection can be annoying as hell if you aren't fully aware of how the bosses work in this game. To put this in perspective I did this on my first playthrough because I just wanted to see what was at the end of tomb of giants just to be blocked off and told no just for exploring more than the average player would, it's just bad level design in my opinion but now I know so I can avoid it but that doesn't change the fact that it made me waste 3 hours trying to figure out how to get out of there and get past the bridges since I didn't lower them when going down to pinwheel. (and all of that could've been avoided if tomb of giants was blocked off until post lordvessel) And don't go trying to say I'm a dumbass or that I need to get good because they don't tell you in any form that you shouldn't go down there and that it's going to be a pain to leave, like for all I knew it could've eventually led to an elevator back to firelink.

Is the blacksmith giant hammer enough to beat 4 kings? (I'm doing level 1 run) ? Should I buy something in particular from the giant before killing him?
