DS2 is slowly becoming my favourite in the souls series. Posted: 03 Jan 2021 04:06 AM PST Contrary to popular opinion, I'm really enjoying how smooth and paced DS2 is compared to the other two. It doesn't rely too much on DS1 nostalgia which is something I disliked about DS3. The environments and lore make me feel like I'm in LOTR or something similar. Whilst I do understand that the game has it's fair share of flaws, none of them have swayed my opinion of the game, so far. Then again, I'm only on my 1st run so I suppose we'll see how long this opinion holds up. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Jan 2021 03:09 PM PST Although I will admit it was on the sixth try. This character isn't a Pyro only run but it was a matter of honor. [link] [comments] |
To the person who invaded my friends and I in the iron keep, you made our night. Posted: 03 Jan 2021 12:52 AM PST So my two friends and I have been working our way through the souls series. Since I never played the first two. We were at the beginning of the iron keep, just standing on the bridge talking on discord about our builds and what not. Next thing we know we are getting invaded, and we are all thinking great this again. (We are not good at pvp.) Invader runs up starts emoting at me while my friends backed off, so I start emoting back. Then he walk closer and I just assumed he would kill me, but he starts doing the quick shielding thing. I'm laughing, my friends then run back to us , and we proceed to have a dance party it seems. We did this for about a minute or two, and we are just laughing and in shock he didn't just murder us right away. (Like most pvp encounters) Then he swings a weapon and murdered us all except my one friend who just jumped in the fire. We had a good laugh for a while, so thank you! -Sorry for format on mobile- [link] [comments] |
I unironically love Frigid Outskirt Posted: 03 Jan 2021 09:12 AM PST The area is so open and huge that it makes me feel like Im playing in an open world Dark Souls game lol. Main thing I love Frigid Outskirt is the broken building with the Pharros Lockstone that has the water pool. Best place to chill in with my fellows npc phantoms while dangers are waiting outside :) [link] [comments] |
After a long time of hearing nothing but bad things about this game, I decided to give it a shot... Posted: 02 Jan 2021 06:55 PM PST I loved it so much that I decided to tackle all the bosses in my first run. The DLC was amazing. This entry offers some truly amazing and unique aspects to the series that make it continue to stand out. I think far too many people who would probably like it are turned off by the nonsense I've seen people spout about it online. Indeed, it has its flaws, but I'm really happy I kept on playing. Thank you to the humble fans of this game for convincing me to give it a chance. [link] [comments] |
Any tips for a dark strenght build? Posted: 03 Jan 2021 11:31 AM PST Just finished the first darksouls with a str/pyro claymore build and wanted to do something new in this game. Dark magic was always interesting to me, but I didnt really liked the fragility of being a sorcerer and didnt want to give up on high poise armors and cool looking swords. Edit: Thanks for the info guys! With which class and gift should I start with? [link] [comments] |

I hope the Royal Rat Authority Burns in Hell Posted: 02 Jan 2021 09:21 PM PST I defeated it, but I the challenge was never the boss, just his damn children. [link] [comments] |
On the nature of cycles, beauty & death...What a game!! Posted: 03 Jan 2021 01:23 PM PST I bought this game when SotFS released, so what like 2014? I was a teenager. It was my first Souls game, and I was absolutely terrible at it. I made several characters, and rage-quit deleted all of them still pretty much with the forest of fallen giants and heide's tower. I stopped playing for a long while. Every now and then I'd try it again, as I was always really interested in trying to find out the story, and the art of the characters and scenary I'd seen just really struck as me beautiful. I feel like I myself would someday lose my past and journey to that decrepit gate, without really knowing why. Every time I DID return, I'd inevitably go hollow. I would rage-quit, and managed to stay relatively blind to the vast majority of the lore, so I had no clue that I myself was already living the cycle of life and death, determination and defeat. I picked the game up again a couple of weeks ago, this time determined to get at least farther than I had before. Before I knew it, I had defeated a giant (The Last Giant in fact), an annoying Pursuer (with the help of a friendly ballista), some Sentinels of ruin, and someone that I assumed at the time was a guy, known only as The Lost Sinner. This was a few days ago IRL.. I am now typing this, while partially crying and hearing the bittersweet music of the Credits. Holy SHIT this game was beautiful, start to finish. I want MORE dark souls. Should I get the other games? [link] [comments] |
Velstadt is making me go insane...... Posted: 03 Jan 2021 01:00 PM PST So a couple days ago i posted the fists only fight, where i attempted to kill velstadt fists only, coc with no buffs or rings that boost damage. That fight took me 1 hour to achieve. Now i wanted to attempt my first endurance run at ds2. And this boss, as fun as it is to fight him. Is driving me insane. I attempt to do broken chime, base attack power, no rings/buffs, coc. I can deal 6 dmg on phase 1, 4 on phase 2. (About 3-4 hours approx.) Never have i ever quit a challenge, not gonna do it now. I always choke at 40-50% health. Not a lot changes from his moveset but appearently i can't go past that certain point untill i screw up. With midir this was never a problem on my endurance fights there and they lasted way longer. So i know i have the mental capacity and patience to go even longer. This shit is driving me nuts.... Anyway rant over. Im just mad that i just spent 2 hours for nothing. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Jan 2021 12:34 PM PST Of course, Seven Spears variant is a bit more flashy, but the two can do some ridiculously spinning attacks. Like the R2 or the 2nd r1 in a combo, the back-step ri also feels similar to one of his attacks. What do you guys think, is their other similar movsets you've seen? [link] [comments] |
Velstadt is stupid hard for me Posted: 03 Jan 2021 11:29 AM PST Velstadt has been the biggest thorn in my side for this game since smelter demon in iron keep, is there any sort of tips someone can give me, any will be appreciated! [link] [comments] |

Is dark souls 2 worth playing? Posted: 03 Jan 2021 09:58 AM PST This might be a bit of a biased place to ask lmao but I've never found myself wanting to pick up the game after hearing from my friends that it doesn't have much to do with the other two games story-wise at all and apparently isn't even directed by the same guy. I love the first and the 3rd dark souls but I feel like the 2nd one could be feel like an off brand dark souls due to the details I mentioned above. Maybe I'm worried about nothing, what are your thoughts on all this and is the game still worth it? [link] [comments] |
Crypt Blacksword make me feel like a kid on Christmas morning. Posted: 02 Jan 2021 09:05 PM PST All my years playing a magic build I never used heavy weapons and usually got the minimum stats for a basic short or long swords. One user here told me get this bad boy or the sacred chime hammer on my hexer build but I forgot it, abandoned my current build and made a new sorcery build recently. After using the moonlight greatsword at 50 intelligence for a while it felt underwhelming. I remembered the Blacksword and got the souls, trade it, upgrade and infuse it dark and got the minimum stats to 2-hand it(20 strength) and boy was I impressed. At 50 intelligence, 12 faith it does a whooping 650 damage. I especially loved the R2 attack on npc invaders. I carefully placed my new ultra GS in my item box, quit the game and shared this to you guys. Now if you'll excuse me I'll login to the game again and I'll re-spec myself to a Hexer. I'm so excited! High and Low points so far from a DS2 beginner Posted: 03 Jan 2021 09:28 AM PST Before playing this, I knew what the bosses were, but had zero concept of the map or progression, and finally got around to getting this game over Christmas. I've killed probably 11-12 bosses ish, the last two being Rotten and Najka I think. So far, I'm absolutely loving this game (I've finished BB, DS1 and DS3 multiple times, and knew about this game's reputation). The play style is definitely extremely different, but as soon as I got my hands on a Halberd, everything felt right in the world. I think it's because I'm gunning to get the Plat for this added to my collection (I only have this, Sekiro and Demon Souls left), but I immediately felt immersed in this game. I also got Cyberpunk for Christmas, but seriously I played that for 2 hours, and this for at least 10-15. It was tough at first but I'm getting the gist of hollowing and managing my HP pool. Here are my favorite parts so far: -discovering the bow and arrow, upped my quality of life in a few disgusting areas I've had to pass through -Shaded Woods, more so around the curse area. I just loved the whimsical atmosphere there, like the chittering and laughter from the pots, having to take my footing carefully; enemies here were also placed decently, I never felt completely shit stomped and it honestly felt like I could strategize properly and chip my way through. It's one of the few areas I didn't die. Also, I think I lucked out in the fog area because I just hugged the left wall... and encountered zero enemies there :3 -Majula, it feels the liveliest and each NPC has a really effective personality. At first it was super confusing, but it's such a nice contrast from the other games. -The level design is cryptic enough, not so insane like DS1 where I end up across the world going the wrong way (which is fine for DS1 because there's like less than 5 deathly gank areas that can absolutely ruin your day), so it's nice in DS2 going back to an area from earlier and being like "OH SHIT there's a whole other path here!". Also, there's enough NPCs that they add enough context to each area so I have some kind of lead as to WHY I'm there. Also, that cat <3 Now... the worst parts: -any area where it feels like I'm tip-toeing but I still find a way to get completely overwhelmed by enemies. These include: Lost Bastille, that one room where like 10 of those little armor knight guys come charging out; Harvest Valley, that one lip where you hop over and can't turn back, and like 5 executioner dudes bumrush you into that corner; Earthen Peak, about midway where those guys jump down the ladder onto you... that whole area just felt so sluggish for me -I feel like there's a lack of Large Titanite Shards. I know I've definitely missed some here and there, but so far I've got my Halberd +5, Broadsword +3, and Bow +4. I've found a few other weapons I want to try out but am just feeling scared to use any large titanite. I'm assuming someone sells it further down the road, but ahhhh there's no hint of that soon haha. Either way, I think my damage feels ok (tbh these bosses seem to have lower HP pools than what I remember from DS3 at least). -now, so far, my LEAST favorite part of the game. Royal Rat Authority. The one redeeming factor is the bonfire nearby. I've tried the following: --Halberd sweep on the rats, which works like 25% of the time otherwise it goes over their heads. I also JUST do too little sometimes to kill them, and I get toxic-stun locked immediately afterwards. --Bow and arrow, which allows me to kill only one rat before they all run me down in the far corner --Targetting with firebombs. I swear I can have them targetted and my dude chucks the fucking bomb to my far left at nothing. Camera also gets super weird if I'm locked on a small rat and the big dude always gets me --Waiting for big rat to knock down little ones, but in the panic it still feels super shitty to get up to one to hit it. It's either big guy will hit me from off camera, or another rat will run up and toxicity my shit. So I've taken a break from the Rat douche, initially to post a rage post, but I turned it into my favorite/least list, after having only played this for a couple days now. I've heard the later game amps up the fun, this true? If so, hell ya. [link] [comments] |

I’m lost and don’t know where to go Posted: 03 Jan 2021 08:29 AM PST Alright so I just started playing this game about 2 weeks or so ago and I got lost from what I can tell I've beaten 3 out of the four "lord souls" (sinner, rotten, the one freja is guarding but now I think I've ran out of directions to go Any help would be appreciated (Btw this game isn't as bad as I originally thought and I can't wait to progress) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Jan 2021 04:19 AM PST After hours of grinding I've only gotten like 6 sunlight medals with 24 more to go. Is there any faster method than the ruined fork road method? [link] [comments] |
Enemy placement weird in Scholar compared to the original? Posted: 02 Jan 2021 02:35 PM PST Do you guys find the enemy placement strange compared to the original? I've beaten DS2 a long time ago, but the new enemy locations in Scholar seem kind of ridiculous. The sheer HP value of these enemies grind the pace of the game to a halt to where you have to stop and tickle some of the new enemies to death before you can proceed. It feels like From decided to pull late game enemies and copy and paste them randomly throughout the game. It's not so much a challenge but a slog to play through. What do you guys think? Feels good to ask noob questions again Posted: 03 Jan 2021 07:51 AM PST I have just arrived at the undead grave, the one before king Vendirck, and I am currently wielding smelter sword with 40 strength and 13 faith and int. I do not feel very good about it but I'm kind of stuck here. Can someone suggest another build, weapon, or anything I can get to use now? I would happily reassest my levels if asked. I am accepting every advice that comes my way. Please do suggest anything. [link] [comments] |
First time DS player, just faced Royal Rat Authority Posted: 02 Jan 2021 10:16 PM PST I'm new to FromSoft's Souls series, bought SotFS on a PSN sale not long ago after having beaten both Surges and Nioh in the past and being hungry for more. I'm a pure caster build, SL 125. I've read countless boss rankings and other Redditor's posts about how difficult Royal Rat Authority was, and I was quite nervous going into it. First attempt, equipped heavy soul arrows to handle the gank bois. They wrecked my shit. Was toxic before big daddy even dropped down, and one swipe made quick work of my "glass canon" health bar. Second time, equipped my Pyromancy Flame +5 and Firestorm, took the gank out with one cast, the remaining 4 blasts melted the Authority himself to where it only took 1 Soul Spear to finish him off. Had to chug a couple estus from getting hit during cast, but staying under his hind legs really helped keep the threat level down. TLDR: Pretty pumped about my quick victory as a Souls virgin and had to share! Don't give up, Skeleton! [link] [comments] |
